Could it be any colder outside? Although it’s almost unimaginable, it honestly could be. But that doesn’t mean that wearing a pair of fuzzy sweatpants and sipping on hot chocolate with toasted marshmallows while indulging in Fifty Shades of Grey or Sex and the City re-runs in bed doesn’t sound like the perfect option. However, there’s still work, school, traveling, parties, and other life responsibilities that we all have to attend to. Therefore, we still have to get dressed and keep it chic despite these cold temperatures, so get inspired by some cute pieces (accessories, shoes, clothing, beauty products–whatever it may be) that will make you want to get dressed up this chilly season.

Dolce Vita Nolita

Towards the land of some of Manhattan’s best and most authentic pasta, cannoli, and other Italian food specialities is the home of Dolce Vita‘s flagship store in Nolita (aka Little Italy).

The rustic-chic store, located at 255 Elizabeth Street, is comprised of racks stocked to the brim, currently in favor of those in need of a resort-wear wardrobe boost, the brand’s footwear collection and even cute accessories to go along with them. The cool layout makes shopping fun around the store’s perimeter, especially due to all of the colorful options in both solids and patterns.

And not to mention, get a little energy along your shopping way with mini Luna Bars by the store’s seating area.

January’s a funny month. It’s a time when we settle from the holidays and vacation, ultimately getting back into work. It also marks the beginning of cold temperatures on the East Coast, leading to more time spent at home. Therefore, it’s the little accessories that act as a mini face lift to days that are a little less eventful, and a little too cold to be out and about outside. They bring elements of color, fashion, and sometimes even humor–whatever reflects your personality and interests. So, I leave you with my favorites in my room above.

Style Solutions & Velvet Eyewear Winner Reveal!

In Accessories on January 9, 2013 at 10:11 AM

After two weeks of fashionistas around the country sending in pictures via Twitter of their holiday party outfits, we have come to a winner–Jaclyn Santos above! We thank everyone who submitted photos, and below are our top two other looks. Jaclyn will receive a pair of my favorite “Janis” Velvet Eyewear sunglasses. We can’t wait to see how she wears them, but until then, let’s hear a bit from our stylish winner from New York City.

S: How do you describe your personal style?

J: I am a professional Fine Artist as well as a shoe designer for Jay Adoni and Modern Vice. I obviously love shoes and have quite a collection. I typically wear classic silhouettes and tailored basics, like a great pair of a jeans and a silk top, or a nude or black dress, and pair it with a really nice purse, shoes, and accessories. As an artist, I’m in love with really high quality materials in both my clothing and accessories–soft leathers, silk, unique hardware, etc. I really look for quality.

S: What are your go-to brands?

J: For footwear, Modern Vice makes the most comfortable, hand-made shoes ever. I’ve been wearing their “Jett Jodhpurs” which have molded to my feet and are so comfy and stylish without trying too hard. Other shoe designers I love are Giuseppe Zanotti, Tory Burch and Christian Louboutin. For evening, I own a lot of Herve Leger and BCBG, which I was wearing in the photo above) and Marc Jacobs. During the day, I love Michael Kors and Topshop, and I’m also obsessed with Lululemon, which transitions easily from work to the gym. I also love wearing my own shoes–I made a limited edition series of hand-painted rain boots with Modern Vice, which are super cool. I also make hand-painted pumps, which I love wearing to events or around the city.

S: What sunglass shape do you believe represents your personality?

J: I love oversized aviators as well as the classic wayfarer. Those two styles best compliment my face shape.

S: What’s your style goal for 2013?

J: Lately, I’ve been really into building up my jewelry collection. I’ve recently acquired some really nice rose gold pieces from Michael Kors and Tiffany’s and would like to acquire a few more rose gold items. I’ve also found some really nice hand-made statement pieces and I’d like to find more unique accessories this year.

S: Why do you love sunglasses?

J: I love sunglasses because they protect my eyes from damage and help prevent fine lines caused by squinting. Also, I love being able to walk around the city incognito when I’m tired!

Skyfall Fashion–James Bond Style

In Accessories, Holiday on November 27, 2012 at 12:00 AM

James Bond is one of my favorite movie series–the glamour and intrigue of a day in the life of a spy are some of what I love most. Then there are those sharply dressed men with dreamy accents and steely gazes, both of which have yet to fail in capturing our attention, imagination, and for some, our hearts. The confidence that the James Bond character portrays is universally attractive. Therefore gentlemen, take this as a little inspiration to step up your personal style games! And ladies, here’s where you come in. Since the movie has come out just in time for the holidays and holiday shopping (Hollywood, you did good), it’s the perfect time to tie in our Bond-fever into the season of gifting.

Below are some gift ideas to give the men in your life (be it your boyfriend, or simply just a friend) a little hint of 007’s edge. With these presents, you’ll add some sophistication and sex appeal without any danger. And if you haven’t nailed a seat at the movie theater yet, definitely catch it before it’s out of theaters–it really is great.

Trending Tuesday With Holidays In Mind

In Accessories, Beauty on November 20, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Rag & Bone

At this time of year, there are always new pieces, collaborations, and previews of up and coming collections in the works. Therefore, I’m quite obsessed with a number of things at the moment, starting off with Rag & Bone’s “Pilot” bag. It might be cold outside, but who said you have to get rid of warm weather memories, including nature’s prettiest flowers. This old-school print was inspired by a 19th century Russian munisak, a traditional type of overcoat. This durable “It” bag is the perfect gift for the holidays (it’s not going to be in stores until December, but it’s already available to pre-order online), or you could just snatch it for yourself.

Aldo Spring ’13

Aldo knows what us girls are looking for…and on a budget. For the upcoming spring season, Aldo’s studded flats, floral print heels, lucite-injected pumps, and crystal-studded kicks are getting me super excited. Not only will you become head-over-heels for the brand’s shoes, but you might also have a nostalgic moment with ’90s heart-shaped sunnies and cuff-clutches.

Gwyneth Paltrow for Butter London

Us gals love a good old nail combo–especially one that has to do with Gwyneth Paltrow. It makes perfect sense that she collaborated with Butter London for her first-ever line of nail polish. Gwyneth’s signature lifestyle site, Goop, joined forces with one of my favorite nail polish brands to create three darling holiday-ready shades that I can’t wait to get my nails in: Hampstead Heath, Bread & Butter Pudding, and Abso-bloody-lutely. Stocking stuffers? You betcha!

Tom Ford Holiday

If I could pull off bright red lipstick, Tom Ford’s beautiful new Jasmin Rouge Lip Color Collection would be at the top of my list. I met Tom Ford (one of my designer crushes–I still gasp at the thought) during the launch of his makeup collection last fall, and it keeps getting better and better.

What items/collections/collaborations are winning your attention right now? I’d love to know.

Rodarte & Starbucks: Tasteful and Affordable

In Accessories on November 15, 2012 at 1:45 AM

I came across a collaboration today that must not be ignored. The time has finally come when you can purchase Rodarte for just $4.95. The fashion house’s Mulleavy sisters collaborated with Starbucks to create four items that satisfy both the coffee-lover and the fashionista. These limited edition assortment of coffee products, which are available online and in stores, will take your cup of coffee from hot to haute. Whether indulging in a travel mug, reusable cup sleeve, gift card, or tote, all splashed with a a pixelated Starbucks print, you’ll be adding to your coffee fix by starting off the holiday season the right way.

BaubleBar + Essie: The Ultimate Collaboration

In Accessories, Beauty on November 8, 2012 at 2:56 PM

This is definitely my favorite BaubleBar collaboration yet!

For one, it’s a great gift for the holidays, and additionally, it’s the best way to wear Essie’s winter trend collection, which I’m completely head-over-heels for (just ordered half of the collection off of while matching the hues to chic wrist-wear.

So here’s how it works. You get to design your own $50 set of bracelets (a total of 3). Once you choose your polish shade and its coordinated bangle, you get to pick two additional bangles (there are a crazy amount of options) to form the set. Also, included is a sleek carrying case filled with your set and polish.

Probably the coolest part of this collection is BaubleBar+Essie’s campaign, which is all about personal style. The brands used real women to style the shoot and put their own personal spin on it.

The femmes: Jenn Falik (Style & Beauty Expert), Lori Bergamotto (Contributing Style Editor at Lucky Magazine), Michelle Smith (Designer for Milly), Alyssa Hertzig (Beauty Director at Shape), Laura Eurdolian (blogger), and Christin Schindewolf & Grace Atwood (BaubleBar’s social media team).

Lastly, show BaubleBar how you styled your collection! Instagram BaubleBar your bracelet/nail polish combos using hashtag #showusyoursparkle. The instagrams will be pinned to Baublebar’s pinboards, and at the end of the month, they will pick their six favorites, which will be featured on BaubleBar + Essie’s Facebook pages.

Statement necklaces are the perfect way to add a pop of color and ounce of glamour to the classic white t-shirt and jeans ensemble. The necklaces above remind me of upscale versions of the “pretend” costume jewelry that I used to play with when dressing up as a toddler. I’ve always had a thing for chunky, sparkly, and oversized jewels, (some things just never change) yet I’m now loving accessorizing with those in geometric shapes.

Earth, Wind, and Rain Boots

In Accessories on October 30, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Hurricane Sandy, aka the Superstorm, has taken a toll on the East Coast. I’ve kept busy with work, spending time with friends, constantly watching CNN, and browsing some of my favorite online websites like ASOS and Shopbop. I have never received more emails about online sales than today–American Apparel, Jennifer Miller jewelry, and BaubleBar, just to name a few. But if there’s one thing you need to buy for this storm in terms of fashion, it’s rain boots, as it wouldn’t be worth ruining one of your non-rain-appropriate shoes; not even sneakers. So for keeping dry and staying safe and stylish, below are my favorite rain boots.

Alex Miká Bracelets

In Accessories on October 3, 2012 at 1:27 AM

Sister duo Michela and Alexa Eshaghian are beading their way ever-so-fashionably this fall.

Always having an interest in jewelry, the duo decided it was time to stop making bracelets from beads that were laying around, and instead purchase beads for a business. The name, Alex Miká, is short for Alexa and Michela, and the girls have been working on their line for over three months.

The bracelets, which are under $35, are great for stacking and for pairing with other bracelets that you already own–arm candy at its finest.

I love the use of colors, crystal balls, and oversized skulls.

Check out the Alex Miká Facebook page for more information on how to purchase!

Rebecca Minkoff Jewelry, Say What?

In Accessories on October 2, 2012 at 12:16 AM

Yes, it’s true! Rebecca Minkoff is adding jewelry to her bucket list of fashion categories–clothing, shoes, sunglasses, bags, and tech.

Can the list get any longer? With Minkoff’s ongoing success, it seems like nothing is stopping her. With a new month (October!) comes new expenses, so make sure to save up for one of Minkoff’s holiday baubles.

Keep an eye out for silver bangles, rose-gold, crystal accents, bib necklaces, chain detailing, and a lot more crystals.

Anna Dello Russo For H&M

In Accessories, Celebrities on September 30, 2012 at 12:14 AM

Mark your calendars fashionistas, because on October 4th, H&M‘s latest collaboration with Anna Dello Russo will hit stores. Earlier in the month, the full lookbook of the collection was released, a huge line of 50 products, ranging from over-the-top embellished sunglasses to a clutch topped with a miniature version of Anna’s dog, Cucciolina. And let’s not forget the major (Rachel Zoe’s definitely feeling the love) jewelry reminiscent of old time jeweler David Webb. The line aims to recreate what it’s like to travel to Fashion Weeks around the globe (gasp!) and the fantasy that goes along with it.

Anna, take us with you! This is one fashion adventure not to miss. Below are my favorite pieces from the collection.

There are some pieces that exceed the limit, but there’s no harm in “window” shopping, is there?

Well, maybe if you’re an actual shopaholic, but above are some of my favorite accessories that I’m lusting over on this gorgeous pre-fall afternoon.

The Bijoux Heart ring is an exclusive to, which definitely makes it unique–a conversation starter. The Mulberry booties are from the “Where the Wild Things Are” inspired FW12 collection, which look super comfortable and warm for some brisk days to come.

The Stella necklace is a cool way to add a tongue-in-cheek element to your everyday portfolio while the Christopher Kane popping-print clutch is a funky way to add elements of colorful and animal prints to your outfits.

Plaid is becoming the leader of trends for fall/winter. I can’t wait for some chilly fall days to mix and match these update classics, especially warm button down shirts with leggings, booties, and an oversized tote.

The print is continuously growing up from its school-girl days (believe me, I was one of them) and is becoming a cool, edgy, and must-have print. Whether worn via a shirt, scarf, shoes, handbag, or jeans, there are many ways to implement pops of plaid into your wardrobe. I own the AG Jeans above and am looking forward to playing around with them and making them perhaps even edgier with the help of some sexy shoes and chunky accessories.

Yosca Love

In Accessories on August 30, 2012 at 2:43 AM

A few days ago, my mom introduced me to jewelry line Yosca by Gerard Yosca.

The jewelry maven has been designing luxury fashion jewelry and developing his brand for the past 25 years. His collection is hand-crafted and produced right from his NYC studio. Celebrities spotted in his jewelry galore? Alicia Keys, Gwyneth Paltrow, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston and Gwen Stefani, just to name a few. Yosca has also collaborated with designers for runway shows including Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Nicole Miller.

Above are some of my favorite Gerard Yosca pieces. They’re easy, feminine pieces with a bit of a boho-chic feel, yet they can also bring some edge to an outfit. I love the use of chunky stones, oversized size of the pieces in general, and the colors (some of which are perfect for this transition period, and others for going into fall).

The College Wardrobe Necessities

In Accessories, Clothing, Shoes on August 26, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Rebecca Minkoff Blair Clutch $350

The first of many tests that you’ll face this college semester? Packing your wardrobe! Space is limited, so it’s super critical to edit your wardrobe down to the essentials (and maybe a few extra special items just for the heck of it).

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that you won’t have time to change every day before going out at night. You want easy, accessible, versatile, and trendy pieces that are still somewhat basic and fit your personal style. Staples like the chambray shirt for pairing with everything from a pencil skirt and jeans to a dress via jacket vibe, a pair of flats for running around your dorm and classes, a sexy dress for those nights that require a pair of heels, a cocktail ring for any outfit that needs some glam, and a clutch are key items to focus on.

These pieces will fit right inside your closet and continue to reappear throughout the year with the help of some different styling methods, makeup, and accessories.  Ace it!

To Splurge, or To Save

In Accessories on August 16, 2012 at 12:00 AM

It’s the time of year when ripping out pages from the many September Issues is the norm, scouting out fall must-haves to add to our bucket list before the season hits. Handbags seem to always be one of the most popular items, and with the incredibly stylish and large number of designers who create masterpieces each season, it can certainly be hard to decide when’s the right time to splurge, and when’s the right time to save.

Luckily, there are ways to shop the trends at both price points that are equally chic. 5 of the most popular fall handbag trends are the satchel, the cross body, the embellished clutch, the everyday classic, and the doctor bag.

The satchel is great when you just want to dump in everything, be it for work or for play. I especially love burgundy this season, so these Philip Lim and Steve Madden options are spot-on.

Cross body’s are great for casual weekends since they’re not heavy and can be worn straight into the evening if you don’t have time to switch to a clutch. Royal blue is definitely the color of the season, so these Marc & Banana options are super on-trend.

Embellished clutches are the “it” dressy bags of the season, thanks to the likes of Valentino and other couture fashion houses as such. I love how the ornate details on both the Williamson and ASOS clutches have the ability to take an outfit from drab to fab.

A new fall handbag is what the doctor ordered! But these Lanvin and ASOS babies won’t be filled with stethoscopes, thermometers or other MD necessities. Instead, your daily needs!

Last but not least, I truly believe that every woman must own a classic, black everyday bag. It’s your go-to when nothing else feels right; and, at the end of the day, black matches with just about everything. Mulberry and Sheinside‘s options will do the trick.

What’s your favorite fall handbag trend?

Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs: The Exhibit

In Accessories, Designer on August 6, 2012 at 2:50 AM

One of the most interesting and fun things that I did while in Paris was going to see the Louis Vuitton-Marc Jacobs exhibit at Les Arts Décoratifs Museum. The exhibit showcases 150 years of Louis Vuitton history, where Jacobs has been creative director since 1997. I was totally captivated by the transformation of the brand, and I’m happy to now know the story of the brand, rather than just admiring LV for aesthetic and appeal.

There are 2 floors. One displays the beginning of the LV empire (the company started by only producing trunks for upper-class jet-setting women). The other floor is where I melted–the Jacobs era, bringing in a modernity that the brand never had before, featuring all of the limited edition handbags through his years, pieces from his first ready-to-wear line, and collaborations with fellow designers such as Takashi Murakami and Stephen Sprouse.

Below are some of my favorite limited edition handbags through the years.

The exhibit runs through September 16th, so there’s still time to catch it while you can! But if not, there’s a wonderful coffee table book about the exhibit which is available for purchase–it will bring just as much satisfaction.

Polka Dot Palooza

I’ve recently been going through this semi-awkward phase in my wardrobe where I don’t feel like constantly wearing summer clothes. I’ve been leaning towards pieces that are year round classics, and can be spiced up with mini doses of summer trends like neons and pastels via shoes and accessories. Pop Goes My Heart

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing, Shoes on July 21, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Pop art has always had a place in my heart.

My mother’s side of the family is from Pittsburgh, PA, the home of Andy Warhol, so I’ve spent time at his museum, indulging in his bright colors, interpretations of iconic people, and overall unique style. I also adore the work of Roy Lichtenstein, another pop art icon.

This era of art seems to be making a mark on the fashion trends, a “come back”, thanks to the likes of Phillip Lim, Lulu Guinness, and more. Even less expensive brands like Topshop and ASOS have taken a stab at the coolness, too.

The colors, abstract images, designs, and old-school yet super cool vibe makes me love all of the pop art-inspired fashion galore. From iPhone cases and kitsch soaps to cosmetic cases, sweaters (think fall), glittery nail polish, bold clutches and then some, the options are endless.

So, indulge in my favorites below.

Cambridge Satchel’s Pastel Paradise

In Accessories, Food on July 11, 2012 at 12:00 AM

The Cambridge Satchel Company just launched a limited edition pastel collection, which not only satisfies sweet tooth indulgers (they remind me of savory macaroons) and pastel adorers, but neon lovers too.

The famed Brit brand, whose popularity seemed to explode at NYFW last September, has gifted us with their signature satchels in mouth-watering cotton candy pastel hues that are the perfect swatches of color for summer: Lemon, Lilac, Rose Pink, and Duck-Egg Blue.

Cambridge Satchel Company’s classic accessory features a structured body, an adjustable shoulder strap and silver buckle closures, all for easy, secure, and stylish access.

Although I covet this limited edition collection (specifically the Lilac), I still adore my highlighter shades of pink, green, yellow, orange, and blue. But I must say, there is a time when an outfit could use a sweet, soft and girly hint of pastel.

The accessory is priced under $150, a fab handbag deal no matter what season, and can go into the early months of fall.

A sweet treat? I think so.

I absolutely adore Miu Miu this season. From classic dresses and embellished shoes to sparkly sunglasses and playful earrings, Miu Miu has kept us fashionistas gladly entertained. Plus, there is a rather large use of color, most noticeable in the cheery accessories. Miu Miu’s over-the-top silhouettes and patterns also make the line simply irresistable. Although the brand is pricey, it’s sale season, so you can snag your favorite Miu Miu galore at a much (but not too much) better price.

Sydney’s Travel Essentials

Whenever I travel, I like to be as organized as possible.

I always use my classic Louis Vuitton shoulder bag as my carry-on and fill it with a trip’s worth of necessities– magazines, a sweater, a healthy snack, my passport, my iPad, Advil, sunglasses, etc. It’s extremely important to not just throw your items in your bag, so keeping them in cases (such as your iPhone and passport) are easy and fashionable ways to prevent losing your belongings.

Below are some of my favorite cases in bright rosy and citrusy hues that will amp up your travel style this summer.

Today marks my first busy Hamptons weekend of the season. You know it’s the start to a great Memorial Day weekend when the Jitney line is not only full of people, but designer totes galore and Hamptonite doggies attempting to escape their carriers.

I’m so ready to bring my Miami and Palm Beach wardrobe back to the East End, in addition to some fun new pieces that I’ve picked up throughout my shopping adventures. Longchamp and Prada totes, get ready.

Until my Hamptons coverage begins, indulge in my Friday Favorites: a classic Sam Edelman sandal with a twist, bright Essie nail polish hues (Lights is my favorite) for colorful fingernails and toenails, a Theodora & Callum scarf to keep warm while traveling, a bold Kate Spade hoop earring for a pop of color, Velvet Eyewear cat eye sunnies, and Trina Turk for Banana Republic ensembles (coming soon!) for just being girly, summery, and cool.

I’d love to hear, how are you spending Memorial Day weekend?

Sydney’s Fendi Baguette Ensemble

In Accessories, On Sydney on May 22, 2012 at 12:00 AM

In one of my favorite episodes of Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw said, “I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.”

Her eclectic and designer-driven wardrobe definitely makes this quote true, from her sample sale Manolo Blahniks to her haute Halston couture. But one staple we saw Carrie wearing more than once was her Fendi baguette handbag.

This particular style was the bag of the 90s; it came in every color and pattern imaginable, from sparkly sequin embellishment and mesh to snakeskin and bright suedes.

The femmes of my family happened to have had just as big of an obsession as Carrie, and luckily kept their bags throughout the decade.

Fendi is reissuing their iconic Baguette bag for a limited run in 6 of their most popular iterations in conjunction with the launch of a new book about the accessory.

Although one wouldn’t dare to fashion this bag a few years ago, it’s time we bring it back.

I love getting lost in the internet’s world of e-commerce websites and style guides galore. Some of my favorites? Net-A-Porter, Rent The Runway, and Shop Bop. My grandmother always said that you can never have too much because there is always something new, and she was most certainly right. To indulge at best, browsing online is fast and effective.

Find your favorite regular priced items and keep an eye out for when they go on sale, as getting one of these trendy items above is definitely worth the wait.

McQueen’s Clever Clutches

In Accessories on May 15, 2012 at 12:39 AM

Clutches are my favorite evening wear handbags, especially those by Alexander McQueen. The genius transformed the simple idea of wearing a bag without a handle into one full of unique designs, including cool color combinations, beautiful embellishment, and edgy hardware.

They are the best untraditional bags in the biz, and the skull closure adds the perfect finishing touch to each creation. The McQueen team continues to satisfy with an array of cutting-edge designs, making it hard to have just a few favorites…but if I must, below are the McQueen clutches I’m loving this season.

Sydney Attends Target’s Fall Preview

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing on May 10, 2012 at 12:02 AM

While you’re thinking about what to wear on this spring Thursday, fashion gurus and those that spread the news are thinking about what you’ll be wearing next season. On Tuesday evening, Target previewed its exclusive fall 2012 men’s, women’s and kids’ apparel and accessories collections at NYC’s tres chic Hudson Bar. Brands including C9 by Champion, Converse One Star, Liz Lange, Merona and Mossimo Supply CO. along with Target’s beauty brands, including JK Jemma Kidd and Umberto Beverly Hills, were beautifully displayed in Philippe Starck’s surreal-designed bar. Although summer hasn’t officially begun, it’s never too soon for a sneak peek into the future.

Key trends spotted throughout the collections include an eclectic mix of unique color combos, print and pattern pairings, subtle details, unexpected textures, and chunky jewelry. This fall preview emphasizes that you don’t need to spend tons of money to look good; you can shop affordable stores like Target and follow trends while not breaking the bank.

So start making some room in your closets, because the collections will begin to be available in July.

Jennifer Miller’s Neon Gems

In Accessories on May 9, 2012 at 12:00 AM

I’m absolutely loving the neon crystal earring trend, especially Jennifer Miller‘s eclectic, colorful and ultra glamours selection. Brights are ruling this season, so what better way to celebrate the trend than by purchasing a pair for Mother’s Day? They’re classy and sophisticated while still cool and hip, just like mom.

We’ve seen lots of neon jewelry galore throughout the season, but these danglers from Jennifer incorporate every quality that I look for in a trendy earring: bold, unique, bright, statement-making without being “too too”, and fun. Even if your mom’s the type who has enough jewelry to last her a lifetime, a woman can never have too much jewelry since there is always something new. While purchasing a pair for mom, you might walk away with a pair for yourself too–guilty pleasure.

This weekend was spent all around the city, busy from morning until night. Yesterday was one of those cool, enjoyable days where I could just walk and walk for hours. It helped that New Yorkers were a bit crazy on margaritas for Cinco de Mayo, and even stores paid tribute to the celebration. I was in many neighborhoods, from the Upper East Side and Union Square to Soho and the West Village. Beautiful weather makes for superb shopping, and some of my purchases will be featured in upcoming outfit posts. Until then, above are some of my favorite weekend snapshots.

My attempt to spending a low-key Saturday simply did not work. I was up early in the morning, out and about all day. I first spent some time on the UES, getting a new iPhone at the Apple store and a quick bite to eat at Bottega del Vino. I then ran some errands along Fifth Avenue before meeting a friend for lunch at Mercer Kitchen in Soho. Although Soho has a lot of the same stores as on the UES (like Intermix and Sephora), the locations are designed to look downtown-cool, a more spacious and edgy shopping environment. Above are my favorite snapshots.

This week was quite the busy one, so I’m happy that the weekend is finally here. I kicked off my Friday night with a Girl’s Night Out. I first went to see one of my best friends, Missy Modell, perform at the New York Historical Society Museum (she’s amazing!) and then headed out to dinner with other best friends at Sushi Samba. It was one of those relaxing evenings where eating, talking, and listening to music was perfectly satisfying. I’m going to continue this low-key vibe today and can’t wait to put on something comfortable, but of course chic.

Coachella is one of the most popular music festivals around the world–I look at it as the west coast version (it’s in California) of Ultra Music Festival. It’s full of bloggers, celebs, music junkies and of course talent, making it the place to be. The lineup is incredible, including David Guetta, Radio Head, The Black Keys and Avicii. The key to getting your groove on while still looking concert-chic is wearing light pieces that protect you from the sun, (it takes place outside) incorporating pops of color, and being comfortable. It’s a gorgeous Wednesday in the city. The sun is out, it’s going to reach 70 degrees, Reed Krakoff updated their windows on Madison Avenue with a tropical collection, and the countdown to spring break is almost over–just 2 days away.

This weather has made for some fruity drinks (I particularly like infused water), floral prints, bright colors, losing an hour of sleep thanks to the time change, and spring cleaning. I have an urge to be outside, whether eating lunch outdoors or walking in Central Park.

Off to search for a springy ensemble for lunch at Mezzaluna (the best chopped salad and tropical iced tea). I’m thinking a little dress, open-toed shoes, some arm candy, and my Reed Krakoff boxer bag.

What’s your spring fever routine?

2 Of My Favorite Trends

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing on March 1, 2012 at 12:46 AM

1. J.Crew $298, 2. Nine West $79, 3. Rodrigo Otazu $220, 4. Tasha $38, 5. Republic $40, 6. Forever 21 $5, 7. Marni $170, 8. Walls Fashion $78, 9. ASOS $13, 10. TOMS $54, 11. ASOS $64

1. Butter $14, 2. Essie $8, 3. OPI $9, 4. Deborah Lippmann $18, 5. NARS $18, 6. Dior $23, 7. Chanel

Two of my favorite trends right now are powerful florals and bright nails. Despite the fact that I’m back to wearing some of my warmer attire this week (thank you mr. groundhog), I cannot help but be addicted to spring’s hautest trends and the bright colors that bring a drab rainy day to one that is fun and fab.

If you’re still wearing your fur vest, umbrella, and rain boots, just think spring!

Florals are far from boring this year. They are colorful, charming, glamorous and loud without being tacky. The last time we saw florals become a trend this big was back in the 90’s. This time around, designers have updated the trend with straight leg pants, envelope clutches, fun frocks, cool collars, sexy shoes, belts and more. Once it’s officially spring, a trip to the Botanical Gardens might not be such a bad idea!

Let’s not forget those bright nails. Spring is all about bold neons or delicate yet fierce pastels–sweet pistachio, juicy tangerine, hues of blue, and more.  I love to switch off between neons and pastels. I think that pastels are better for work days and neons are better for weekends and play.

What do you think of these trends?

Beads 4 Battle

One of my best friends, Sunny Rovitz, has beaded her way to raise awareness for ovarian cancer. Some fashion ribbons and t-shirts to show support for a cause, but Sunny and her customers show their support through her handmade bracelets. Sunny’s bracelets range in style, color, design and amount, all customized to fit your personal style. Each bracelet contains a buddha or skull, adding the perfect amount of color and pizzaz. I designed and own the bracelets in the first photo. I love the white quartz combined with the blue and orange pastel buddhas. It’s a fun, summery mix that will brighten up any outfit. I also own the pink, black and white bracelets in the third photo, which I adore.

Sunny’s bracelets are perfect to add to your jewelry collection for their simple and cool yet powerful aesthetic, and most importantly because a large portion of the proceeds are donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Click here for more photos, prices and to place your order with Sunny.

I didn’t expect to come across a trendy, fun and meaningful jewelry line while going to get my hair conditioned, but that’s the beauty of New York City; it’s full of surprises.

I especially love Debra’s lariat necklaces as they are long, chunky, and available in pastel hues, which is spot on for spring 2012.  I also enjoyed her turquoise collection and set of beaded bangles.

Each piece of jewelry has its own unique simplicity, making this collection full of charming basics to add to your jewelry collection.

I’m going to Miami today for the long weekend and can’t wait to show you what’s going on in the South Beach fashion world!

Accessorize The Chinese New Year With Swatch

In Accessories on January 23, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Happy Chinese New Year, Style Solutions readers! It’s time to celebrate the day in style. Thanks to Swatch, we’ll be able to.

The mega-popular watch brand is kicking off the new year with The Year of the Dragon limited edition watch ($65). It is one of the most lively and colorful signs of the Chinese animal zodiac, and is the key symbol of Chinese spirit.

The Year of the Dragon watch features an intricate and graceful Chinese dragon on the white ground of the silicone strap, taking inspiration from classic Chinese-styleblue and white porcelain. The dial complements the dragon with a delicate ornamental blue grid drawn on a white background.

Not only is the watch modern-chic, but the packing is too; a blue dragon appears on the special packaging, ready to bring good fortune to everyone in the new year ahead.

The white and blue color combination will give your current outfits some cool winter frost, yet it will also look great with your resort and spring pieces. It’s one of those watches that’s fun and bold enough that it doesn’t require lots of other jewels, so keep it minimal to a statement earring or cocktail ring.

I adore Swatch watches for their fun, charming and colorful designs, and there’s no better time to wear one than on a festive day.

Below is an outfit that I styled to go with the Year of the Dragon watch. The best part? It’ll last you more than one season.

1. Equipment $215, 2. J Brand $190, 3. Zara $159, 4. House of Harlow 1960 $195, 5. Kohls $10, 6. Jeffrey Campbell $215

If there’s one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s DANNIJO jewelry. The perfect combination of glamour, edge and color, DANNIJO jewelry designers (and sisters), Jodie and Danielle Snyder, know how to make a fashion statement. I love all DANNIJO pieces, but the Spring 2012 collection is particularly special, especially the earrings.

My favorite earrings, which are featured above, contain bright colors (a combination of both neons and pastels) adorable skulls, futuristic-like stones, long chains, and an eclectic mix of Swarovski crystals used throughout.

Each one of the earrings are perfect for giving a simple outfit a pop of color, yet can also act as a nice complement to a brighter outfit. They scream chic without being “too too”.

Women fashioning men’s clothes has been a major trend, thanks to brands like A.P.C and Rag & Bone. It’s been all about boyfriend blazers, boyfriend jeans, and military-inspired ensembles. But with 2012 unveiling the newest trends, it seems as though there’s going to be a return to a long-gone glamorous femininity with some fabulous flower power.

There won’t be any borrowing from the boys this season, darlings. Instead, we’ll be wearing chic pastels with floral prints that are tropical-inspired, ethnic-inspired, art-inspired, and more. Although our silhouettes might be a bit more girly than usual, we can still fashion our undeniable edge by creating outfits that combine what’s street-chic and our own personal style.

About two weekends ago, I was browsing the home floor of Barneys with my mom. We came across Simon Doonan signing his new book Gay Men Don’t Get Fat at his personal appearance. I was rushing out and didn’t have time to chat, but I did manage to get a shot of him on my iPhone in a fabulous multicolored floral button-down. He aced the trend while still making it “him” with a dark yet colorful tie and jacket. Like I always say, it’s all about looking hard and soft at the same time. Take Simon’s floral look as inspiration for a possible upcoming investment.

Above is my favorite mix of high and low floral galore. Whether you start with a clothing item, a shoe, or accessory, it’s always fun to experiment and add trendy pieces to your closet.

Accessorize Like A Golden Globes Fashionista

In Accessories, Award Show on January 16, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Angelina in Atelier Versace, Salma and Jessica Alba in Gucci, Charlize and Mina in Dior, Lea and Shailene in Marchesa, Jessica Biel in Ellie Saab, Claire in J. Mendel…the list of best dressed celebrities strutting down the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globes is larger and better than ever.

My favorite? Nominee, Zooey Deschanel, who fashioned an elegant yet edgy backless Prada black gown with emerald green glass pearl embellishment above the waistline and an extraordinarily chic ivory pearl embroidered collar. I also love her matching Prada emerald green glass pearl clutch, tuxedo nails (her take on a french mani), and chunky cocktail ring.

The dress is of course what we look at and judge first and foremost when these A-Listers walk down the red carpet, but what I find to be just as important is the accessories: earrings that dangle, crazy beautiful cocktail rings, and phenomenal clutches.

Below are my favorite Golden Globes inspired earrings, cocktail rings and clutches, all $270 and under, that will make you the most trendy and glamorous red carpet fashionista.

Bring out one of these pieces for your next party, and you’ll be sure to steal the spotlight.

A Little This, A Little That

1. Roberta Chiarella Sensatior $148, 2. Vince $395, 3. Prada $225, 4. Forever 21 $20, 5. Zara $100

The trends keep rolling out. So far, I’m loving each and every one of them. It seems as though I cannot go into a store without trying something on or making a purchase. The collections are better than ever, designers and low-end brands going all-out with trendy pieces that make us feel like we just walked off the catwalk at Fashion Week.

That’s the beauty of mixing high and low pieces; there’s dimension.

One trend that I’m loving right now is a splash of tangerine. Crisp, bright, sassy, sexy, and glamorous, having a few tangerine pieces in your closet is an absolute must. I do not suggest wearing more than one or two tangerine pieces at once, unless you take the colour-block route which is so darling. Above are my favorite tangerine pieces; I love how the less expensive items look just as great as those that are expensive. By the way, the Zara shoes are on sale-I’d definitely make a move. If you’re not feeling a tangerine clothing item or accessory, you can always substitute with a tangerine shade of lipgloss for a pop of color.

1. Gorjana Graham $55, 2. Jagger Edge $109, 3. Jeffrey Campbell $170, 4. Zara $10, 5. Furla $248, 6. Low Luv by Erin Wasson $40, 7. Sam Edelman $275, 8. R&Em $34

On an edgier note, I’m also loving the punk accessory trend; perfect for spicing up a basic outfit. Whether you go for a funky clutch, spiked heels, lacy gloves, or stud embellished anything, you’ll ace the trend in no time. Keeping your clothes sophisticated and elegant combined with these accessories will give you a balanced soft meets hard look.

Even if these trends are outside of your comfort zone, it’s always worth while to go to a store you like with brands you feel comfortable in and try on some pieces in a dressing room.

Fashion is all about experimenting and exploring your options, and there are never too many. Even if you don’t make a purchase, you learn more about your likes and dislikes. The worst case is you walk out of the store with the same amount of money you walked in with and one less shopping back to carry. Not too bad, right?

Pastel Guide

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing, Shoes on January 9, 2012 at 8:32 AM

If starting a whole new section in my wardrobe took about the same amount of time as creating a virtual wardrobe on the internet, I’d first rush to pastels. The trend is quickly making its way to the fashioniverse, becoming more and more apparent in editorials, department store windows, and so on. My love for pastels grew when browsing Barneys and Bergdorfs over the weekend.

Pastels are said to be the new neon come Spring (although I’ll never give neons up). Pastels definitely scream “girly” to me; I don’t know if it’s the colors themselves or the fact that many women in Palm Beach over Easter tend to wear anything and everything pastel. Probably a combination of both.

Pastels can be worn beautifully if fashioned the right way. I would not wear more than two pastels in the same outfit, but I would mix them with your edgier pieces to create a soft and hard play on the eyes. Below are my favorite pastels that can easily be mixed and matched with basic pieces that you most likely already own.

J Brand jeans, Acne sweater, Dior eyeshadow, Dior lipgloss, Dior nail polish, Equipment blouse, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow, Topman socks

Dannijo bangles, ASOS earrings, DSW flats, Steve Madden platforms, ASOS belt, ASOS handbag, Amomuito earrings, Modcloth wedges

Celine It On

In Accessories on January 4, 2012 at 3:59 PM

Back to work means back to bags that can fit all of our daily needs. No more (until my next vacation) small daytime clutches, cross-bodys and satchels like I was able to wear in Palm Beach; they’ll have to wait to be fashioned strictly at night. It’s back to Marc Jacobs totes, Louis Vuitton shoulder bags, and Balenciaga oversized city styles. These bags are not ones to complain about, but my shoulders were much more satisfied with the smaller ones.

One of the most popular handbags right now, and is one of my personal favorites, is Celine’s Boston Bag. It is truly perfect. It is oversized and attention grabbing, yet it has an elegant simplicity which demonstrates that it was not over designed. It’s modern and has charming details; from the shape and straps to even the zippers.

The bag comes in endless color options, and I have yet to find one that I don’t like. There’s mustard, peach, black, plum, blue, you name it. You can go either way: bright and fun, more unique, or neutral and classic, just as fabulous but a bit more practical.

The blue seems to be most popular amongst Lily Alen, Claudia Schiffer and Leighton Meester.

I’ve seen countless women from on the streets of New York City to the tabloids fashioning this tote, and I absolutely want one. But, there is one issue: it goes against being on a reasonable budget (the bag ranges from $1800-$2500 depending on color). However,  you find yourself in this situation with all of these high-end brands.

It is most certainly a lust, so not a must, but there is something completely wow about this bag.

What do you think about Celine’s Boston Bag? Is it a must-have, or is it simply nice to look at?

2012 Trends Start Now

In Accessories, Beauty on January 3, 2012 at 5:12 PM

1. Vivienne Westwood ($63), 2. Marni ($175), 3. Dorothy Perkins ($8), 4. Kenneth Jay Lane ($105)

It is absolutely freezing outside! It’s crazy how just yesterday I was in bright and light clothes, open-toe shoes and a fedora, where now I am back to my wintery attire, which is needed now more than ever. Heavy winter coats, thick scarves, cashmere gloves, oversized sunglasses to block the wind, and warm, toasty boots. That’s January in New York City for you.

1. Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss ($23), Bobbi Brown lipstick ($23)

With a new year comes new trends, and boy are there many. From haute hues, wow wedges, stripe daytime frocks and bright bags to higher than imaginable shoes, the list goes on, and on.

Two of my favorite trends that you can start following now are brooches and bright neon lips.

Brooches. Seen on the runway all of last season, they are back for full-on fashioning this year. Some cheap and others expensive, they are easy to find and are the perfect accessory for adding some glamour, fun, and embellishment to any dress. You can even add them to simple totes for a bit of pizzaz. Above are my favorite brooches, which all have different looks: edgy with Westwood, modern abstract with Marni, glamorous with Perkins, and charming with Lane.

Neon Lips. You can’t go wrong, especially with Bobbi Brown’s fabulous selection. The combination of a nude and rather natural face with a bold pop of bright lip color will give you that electrifying look. The pink? Classic. The orange? Super chic. And the purple? So for me. The colors are definitely for spring, but don’t shy away from trying them now to give your all-black looks some color. And, they are perfect for resort.

Time for a warm cup of tea, some tasty munchies, and an oversized sweatshirt for watching The Bachelor.

What are you doing to keep warm?

Snoodle Up!

2. J.Crew, $68
3. Kate Spade, $125
4. Topshop, $40
5. Topshop, $40
6. Jacob, $24

Some say bundle up, but I say snoodle up.  Although it’s been more warm than cold this season, I’ve still managed to wear one of my favorite wintery accessories: snoods, also known as tubular neck scarves.  The oversized and somewhat dramatic look of snoods are what make them so appealing to me.

While you can find them in great colors and patterns, they still have a simplicity that can add a special touch to your outfit without taking over the rest of what you’re wearing, unless of course you’d prefer otherwise.

I find that it’s easier to find a great looking snood at a good price versus a “regular” scarf.  This is because scarves tend to be made of various fabrics, and you can tell which ones wear well and those that do not.

Plus, scarves are more about the design and pattern where snoods are more about the actual look.

I have just one snood from Topshop (number 5) and it has lasted me a great amount of time.  It matches with just about everything, since it’s black, and is warm yet not itchy, which is a major pet peeve of mine–itchy scarves, that is.  I love wearing them with anything from my gym clothes to a dressy cocktail dress.

The holidays is a perfect time to get your friends into this haute accessory.  They’re fashionable, different, fun, and you can get a lot of use out of them–a trendy and useful holiday present.  Even celebs like Blake Lively and Lady Gaga and model Chanel Iman are loving them.

What I’m Loving This Afternoon: Balenciaga & Genes @ CO-OP

In Accessories on November 18, 2011 at 5:07 PM

iPad table at genes @ co-op

This afternoon, I went to Barneys‘ new restaurant, Genes @ CO-OP, which is truly magnificent and technologically savvy.  Barneys equipped the restaurant with a long boardroom-like common table (think upscale Le Pain Quotidien) where each person’s placemat, if you will, is a built-in iPad.  The iPad allows you to browse Barneys New York’s online publication, The Window, shop the Barneys website, (men, don’t bring your girlfriend or wife–they’ll be totally distracted) and it even provides you with the option to order straight off the iPad menu, or pressing a button to call a server.  It’s all about customization.  I had the designer of the restaurant on one side of me and a group of Coach merchandisers on the other side.  Everyone was mingling about the food and setup, and overall, the restaurant got a great reaction.

As I was walking out of the store, I noticed a beautiful suede Balenciaga bag in forrest green.  First off, I’m obsessed with the color, and secondly, I absolutely love suede.  Oh Balenciaga, I simply cannot get enough! (no matter how many times I spot women fashioning a ‘City Bag’).

Continuing my love for Balenciaga, below are 4 items that I’m loving this afternoon.

Belt The Day Away

In Accessories on November 17, 2011 at 6:56 PM

This is the first day that truly feels like winter!  The brisk cold air, unveiling of holiday windows, and Thanksgiving talk makes it feel normal [finally] to wear boots and jackets.  The city is bustling today, as usual, especially in warm places like stores and coffee shops.  I just got back from a meeting at Nespresso, one of my favorite haute-spots on the Upper East Side.  I ordered a mocha latte, which has a chocolatey taste without being over caffeinated.

As I was walking to and from Nespresso, I noticed a number of women fashioning thin belts with dresses and pants; perfect for day and night.  I usually stick to my vintage Hermes H belt because it’s classic.  Plus, I have three different colored straps for it to go on, so I alternate: navy blue, tan, and black.  However, I now want a belt that’s thinner and not expensive, but truly fun for those outfits that need a quick add of pizzaz.

Jessica Szohr always does a great job at adding a thin belt to her outfits like in the photo above–she’s knowledgeable about pulling off an effortlessly chic look.  ASOS has a great selection of thin belts.  From sparkly belts to cheetah belts to metallic belts and much more, the options are endless.  However, I came across a fantastic 3 that are perfect for this season.  Whether with a chic corduroy, a simple LBD, or just a t-shirt and jeans, these belts can add a bold factor without spending lots of money.

And get ready Style Solutions readers, because starting next week, it’s all about the holidays!

Sydney and Her Friends Hit The Ice

In Accessories on November 15, 2011 at 3:48 PM

Last night, me and my best group of friends spent our evening at Wollman Rink for an iceskating party.  The weather man first called for rain, yet it was perfectly clear but extremely warm!  Skating in 65 degrees, you think you’d be skating in melted ice.  Luckily that didn’t happen.  But honestly, what happened to autumn?!

While some dressed like a winter storm was about to hit -with fur hats, puffy jackets, and heavy scarves-, we at least made it through the evening without any broken bones.  We even managed to skate the rink all together to The Time, (the Black Eyed Peas version, obviously) which is a song we collectively enjoy.  The only thing that was missing were the Wollman Rink candy apples, which were MIA.

I’ve always had a love for iceskating, but I seemed to have forgetten everything I knew when I first got on the rink.  But after about a half an hour, I got back to my usual groove.  I’m ready to hit the rink again on Sunday.

For the most stylish ice skater, here are 3 accessories that are fashionable, and almost all practical, for a fun and trendy look on the rink.

Ippolita Arm Candy

In Accessories on November 9, 2011 at 7:31 AM

I love a great set of bangles.  They are the perfect addition to almost any outfit, especially those that are colorful and unique.  As I was sitting with my group of friends, sipping on Starbucks pumpkin spiced lattes, my friend Emily showed me her new Ippolita bangles.  Let me tell you, they are total arm candy, and I have become completely obsessed with them.

The bangles are absolutely stunning, glamorous, and chic.  I have seen lots of people fashioning Ippolita bangles this week, and I finally got to try on my friend’s set.  It just so happened that Emily’s bangles were rose gold, which is my favorite hardware color.  One bangle had brown stones, the second had clear stones, and the third had purple stones.  So fabulous.

Although Ippolita jewels are lusts and not musts, they are truly stunning and great inspiration for future bangle purchases.  The combination of stones, some more colorful than others, and size, some big and others small, are what make these bangles unique and appealing to the eye.

Not only are Emily and I huge fans of Ippolita, but celebs are too–Kimora Lee Simmons, Brooke Shields, and Michelle Trachtenberg, just to name a few.

Sparkling Jewels, Sparkling Water

In Accessories on October 29, 2011 at 5:53 AM

I am obsessed with sparkling water.  I drink approximately two large bottles a day, yet I never seem to get sick of it be it morning, noon, or night.  I add a little flavor with the help of either a slice of orange or lemon, and sometimes I even add a splash of cranberry juice.

Through the years, I have seen water companies such as Evian collaborate with many designers.  For example, Christian Lacroix.  Now San Pellegrino, my favorite sparkling water brand, has marked its presence in the fashion biz, also collaborating with fashion houses.

In 2010, San Pellegrino collaborated with Italian fashion house Missoni in which the label featured the Missoni branding and the bottle came in a special sleeve designed by the brand.  It was super chic, and I still see some bottles every now and then.

The newest San Pellegrino collaboration is with the iconic jewelry, watch, and fashion accessory brand, Bulgari.  The limited edition bottles are absolutely stunning, celebrating the jewelry brand’s 125th anniversary.  The bottles will be served at all anniversary events around the world, and of course at restaurants and clubs.

I first spotted the Bulgari limited edition bottles while dining at a small French cafe in Philadelphia last weekend.  I was so excited that all I could do was take tons of pictures of the bottle on my blackberry.  The waitress noticed my excitement and even asked if I wanted to take the bottle home (I thought that would be a bit too embarrassing).  I saw the bottles once again last night while dining at Mercer Kitchen in Soho.

The stunning Bulgari necklace on the San Pellegrino bottle made me want to browse the Bulgari website late last night, and admire the exquisite jewels that are total eye candy.  Below are some of my favorite pieces from the Bulgari Mediterranean Eden collection.  #Priceless.

My Favorite Earrings Under $50

In Accessories on October 25, 2011 at 4:55 PM

This evening, my mom is hosting a cocktail party for 30 people at our home. I’m not particularly in the mood to get all dressed up since I’m not going out, so I want to wear something simple yet with a pop of glamour.  I’m thinking of going typical New Yorker with black pants and a blouse, a funky shoe (maybe my B by Brian Atwood’s?), and some dazzling and sparkly earrings for glam.

When I wear a statement earring, I like to modify the rest of my jewelry–the most I’ll add is a chunky cocktail ring.  Although earrings tend to be expensive, you can find great ones that are super chic yet won’t leave you without money in the bank.  Below are 5 of my favorite earrings under $50.  J’adore

A Clutch For All

In Accessories on October 21, 2011 at 7:26 AM

Friday is here which means weekend attire is back!  It’s time to put away those pencil skirts and work totes and bring out those fun and flirty dresses, bright colored pants, clutches, and more.  I’ve never been more in the mood to wear a clutch–I think it’s because I’ve been carrying my Marc by Marc Jacobs black tote all week, which is so heavy on one shoulder that I almost feel like I’m walking lop-sided without it!

I’m thinking a Tory Burch or Roberta Freymann clutch to start off my weekend.  I’m craving color and want to stay away from black; but honestly, can a New Yorker really stay away from black?  Not so much.  But it’s a nice attempt.  I’m going to be traveling a bit this weekend to Maryland and Philadelphia, and will be going out for a dressy dinner on Saturday night.  Bringing a clutch is the perfect bag when traveling as they are light and usually flat–perfect for that jam-packed suitcase!

I’ve been browsing for a new clutch online, and I came across some that are great options when it comes to look and price: all under $100.  Some act as neutrals, while others act as a pop of pizzaz.  Below are 5 of my favorites.

sex & the city 2: carrie's magnificent turban

Our world is diverse in every dimension, especially in fashion.  This season’s hottest hat trend is wearing turbans.  I had my first turban obsession when seeing Sex and The City 2, where Carrie Bradshaw fashions a stunning metallic and multi-color turban in Abu Dhabi.   It is majorly chic and completely me.  Ever since then, I’ve wanted one of my own, though one that will work for all seasons and with all outfits, though some of which have a little twist like stud embellishment.  I found that Nasty Gal has a great selection of turbans, all of which are pretty well priced.  Below are my favorite turbans from  Like?

In Honor of Steve Jobs

In Accessories on October 6, 2011 at 5:59 PM

To much surprise, Steve Jobs passed away last night.  With the power of the internet, the news spread extremely fast: from Facebook status updates, online articles, to Tweets.  Without a doubt, the world has lost a mastermind who truly changed the world of technology.  My mom was walking by the Apple store today on Fifth Avenue, and took a picture of what people left on the steps leading up to the store.  In one way, the picture above makes me want to cry, but in another sense, it makes me want to smile because it shows how many people supported Jobs.

In honor of Job’s passing, this post is about decals, the new way of making your Apple devices hot and trendy. For those of you who don’t know what a decal is, it’s a design prepared on special paper to transfer onto surfaces.  The decals come off very easily, so you can change them when you feel like you’re ready for a new look –think a fast and fabulous makeover!  They’re also inexpensive: under $10.

Below are my favorite decals for my most used Apple technology, the Macbook Pro, all of which I find to be stylishly desirable.  R.I.P Steve Jobs.  Every industry -be it fashion, technology, journalism, finance, etc- will miss you.

Accessorize, Darlings!

In Accessories on September 29, 2011 at 6:20 PM

Accessories, accessories, accessories.  I never stop talking about them, nor do I plan to.  I talk accessories even more than usual at the beginning of each season since that’s when new styles and trends come out.  I know it’s time to make a list of my favorite ones for fall when the leaves start to turn orange, pumpkins are spotted at neighborhood markets, candy corn is available in more than just the classic flavor, and wearing a light cardigan is not enough to keep warm.

This season’s accessories have been spot-on fabulous–total statement makers–, so it’s hard to just mention a few.  However, I have no doubt in my mind that my list will expand as the season goes on.  ~Here’s a start~

1. Miu Mu Ankle Boots: Sparkly, shimmery, sexy, oh my!  Talk about a new take on a regular fall/winter boot!  Missing summer?  Although your feet will be inclosed, all you have to do is dream that you’re wearing a sandal with the clever and totally out-of-the-box design.  Too much?  Not for Miu Miu…not one bit!

2. Tom Binns Fauve drop earrings:  With these Swarovski crystal clashing color palette earrings, you’ll be sure to make a fab fashion statement.  Go for a dark outfit to bring out the color, and pull up your hair to show these dazzlers at maximum effect.  Parfait!

3. Native Union-Pop Phone:  It’s all about being tech savvy in the new generation.  This POP handset combines classic style with a contemporary edge and is finished with a luxurious soft-touch texture.  Alice and Olivia’s Stacey Bendent is known for fashioning this quaint and charming accessory–is Gaga next?

4. Prada Butterfly-frame acetate sunglasses: It’s time to flap your wings with these hot Prada shades.  Ultra exaggerated and full of glamour, these sunglasses are definite fall must-haves.  Bring on the drama!

Sydney: City Chic On The Street

In Accessories, On Sydney on September 24, 2011 at 5:32 PM

Remember the Furla Candy bag from last summer?  The jelly it-bag of the season, which came in stunning neon colors?  Well, Furla just came out with new colors for fall/winter, and I am absolutely loving them.  Unfortunately, as much as I love neon accessories,–actually, neon anything— they are not appropriate for fall/winter.  However, if you were a big fan of the summer Candy bags, which literally made fashion bloggers go wild, you can now invest in one of the new colors.  And believe me, you will love them just as much.

The new colors: red, orange, violet, and green.  I purchased my Candy bag last Saturday, and it was no easy task picking just one.  I narrowed my options down to the orange and green bags, and at the end of the day, I picked the orange.  I originally went in wanting the violet as it’s the “hot” color of the season, but I felt somewhat too old in it as it didn’t look fresh.  I’m so happy, though, with the orange!

On this cloudy and somewhat overcast day, I didn’t want to get all dressed up, but I still wanted to be street-city-chic.  L’équipement? A beige Rag & Bone loose-knit sweater, black leggings, brown Havaianas, my new multicolored Theodora and Callum scarf, my rose-gold Ray Ban‘s, a gold peacock necklace from a street vendor in Soho, and a miscellaneous chunky black and crystal cocktail ring I received in a goodie bag at an event.

J’adore…Quelle est votre couleur préférée?

P.S.–not my dog, it’s my friend’s.

Growing up in a family with some major shopaholics, I’ve learned how to get wardrobe essentials before worrying that everything will be gone, gone, gone.  What’s the Style Solution?  It’s called pre-ordering, darlings.  There is nothing chic about chasing your favorite seasonal must-have at the height of the season when everyone else is vying for the same item; believe me–I’m still searching for those skinny black-forest J Brand corduroys, and I’ve been going to Barneys twice a week waiting for them to arrive.  Luckily I have the most amazing salesperson, Randal, (but if he’s not available Anton is second best) who gets quite amused by my corduroy hunt.

Anyways, case proven, it’s all about pre-ording.  Not only is it necessary to pre-order clothes, but it’s also important to pre-order some of those wintery accessories.  I am a total believer in accessories: they make an outfit.  If it came down to it, I would rather have a closet full of accessories than a closet full of clothes because accessories are the icing on top of the cake.

Of course there’s the usual wanting of the hottest bag and shoe, but what about those amazing scarves, hats, and of course gloves!  I cannot go a fall/winter season without a to-die-for pair of gloves.  I’m loving the Imoni gloves I spotted on  They are python-chic, which I’m so into right now, but whatever you do please, please, please don’t wear them with the snakeskin Nine West Mary Jane’s I blogged about yesterday: lets try to avoid Joan Rivers and her Fashion Police.

The gloves come in three dashing colors that make me want to slip my hands into them A.S.A.P.  Les options? Brown, green, and orange.  They are wonderfully luxe, supple, soft, and so fun and colorful that they will bring your soon-to-be darker outfits into some light.  My favorite?  The orange.  Place your pre-order now fashionistas, or you’ll be chasing these g-lovely gloves down.

Set Your Alarms For Missoni

In Accessories, Clothing, Shoes on September 12, 2011 at 8:53 PM

Ever since I was little, I’ve had a major obsession with Missoni.  My grandmother was one of those women who always had to have the latest Pucci or Missoni print, so I’ve been left many that are although years old, look perfectly brand new.  Missoni is one of those brands that I can simply say is so me because everything is truly colorful (and I love color).  If only Missoni was half less expensive, I would be shopping the brand 24/7.

Tomorrow is my chance -the day I’ve been waiting for-, and yours as well.  Missoni lovers, set your alarms extra early for tomorrow morning, and don’t even dare to press snooze, because Missoni For Target will be available.  Now’s your chance to shop the legendary brand at a price that you can afford.

Every time I browse the online lookbook, I want everything more and more: the bike, the clothes, the shoes, the pillows, the dishes, the accessories, the everything: 400 items to be exact.  Everything is going to go quickly, so be sure to buy enough of what you love without hesitation because this is a major fashion moment.

Leopard Clutch Galore

In Accessories on September 3, 2011 at 5:20 PM

Whenever I go out at night and get all dressed up, I love to accessorize with a glamorous and fashion-forward clutch.  Over the past couple of days, I’ve been going through my clutches in both my apartment in NYC and home in the Hamptons, and realized that the clutches I have in each are distinctly different from each other.

In the Hamptons, my clutches are ultra colorful.  Bright green, hot pink, turquoise blue, and neon orange.  In the city, my clutches consist of black (patent leather and solid leather), gold, and beige.

As I find myself more geared into fall/winter fashion, I’ve been keeping my eyes out for some fabulous evening clutches.  For this season, I recommend purchasing a leopard clutch.  I’m a lover of (faux) animal skin accessories, be it shoes, handbags, gloves, or belts.  There’s something about leopard accessories paired with LBDs, camel numbers, and suede or leather jackets that bring such warmth to an outfit.

So far, there are 3 leopard clutches that have made my hit list.

1. YSL: Cabas Chyc Clutch in Leopard

Envelope clutches are the easiest to fashion as they provide the most room for your items that you simply cannot leave home without.  Giving this YSL classic a bolder look is the leather and gold clasp.  Magnifique!

2. House of Harlow 1960 ORLINA Cross-body Clutch

Bring on the autumn colors for fall!  If you love color just as much as me, then you’re always looking for a colorful twist to a simple item.  On top of this bold show-stopper is a silver leopard head used as a clasp.  I so see Nicole Richie wearing this with one of her signature maxis…j’adore!

3. Leopard Pony Knuckle-Box Clutch

One can never go wrong with McQueen.  What gives this leopard rectangular yet circular clutch a fab factor?  The Swarovski crystal ring clasp (no need for lots of jewelry!).  Totally funky yet glamorously chic, this clutch screams McQueen.

I am a die-hard lover of jewelry.  Some girls only love diamonds, but that’s not what does it for me.  Whether real or costume, I love jewels that are big, bright, and colorful with a hint of glamorous sparkle.  I’ve collected and been passed down jewelry from all over the world, both old and new, yet I never seem to stop finding new pieces that I become obsessed over.

My current favorite jewelry line is Dannijo because it defines everything that I look for in jewelry.  I’ve never come across a Dannijo piece that I don’t love, but below are my six favorites in the collection.  Whether shopping or just browsing, check out the Dannijo website to get your eyes on these amazing sparklers.  J’adore...

Decorating Your Dorm

In Accessories on August 14, 2011 at 1:07 PM

Getting ready to move into your college dorm room?  If so, it’s a great opportunity to try out your decorating skills.  Although your room space might be small, you can bring your own style and creativity with the littlest touches.  When I spent last summer at Harvard, my dorm room looked as if it came right out of a jail scene in a movie (although I did have great space; two rooms, one bathroom, and lots of closet space-and just one roommate); not like Elle Woods’ dorm.   One room was our common area -we were each provided with a desk, a chair, a dresser, and a bookshelf- and in the other was one bunk bed.

To give my side of the darkly colored and dusty common room my personal touch, I bought some fun accessories: some Audrey Hepburn laminated posters, three large crystal doorknobs in green, purple, and yellow to use as decorative pieces, bright supplies, a hot pink bowl to dump my jewelry in, and a silver chair (so when friends came over, they wouldn’t have to sit on the floor) with a bright multicolored pillow.  I even bought a fridge and had oversized glass jars on top with every kind of 100 calorie pack imaginable.  After my 24-hours of decorating, I felt a little more at home.

Here are 5 of my favorite dorm accessories.  Click on the image to go directly to the site to purchase.

Summer Vacation Essentials

In Accessories on August 11, 2011 at 10:39 AM

With summer almost coming to an end (brace yourself!), it’s always nice to take an end-of-the-season vacation.  Whether you’re heading to a relative’s somewhere in the country, taking a Euro adventure to sharpen up your language skills (or just for the to-die-for shopping), or going to one of those trendy islands like St. Tropez, traveling fashionably is always key.

Whenever I go away, I must be organized.  I like to have one roller suitcase so I don’t get a sore neck while dragging my bag through the airport, a great fedora to hide my tired eyes if I have an early flight, or to block out the sun while bathing on the beach, two cosmetic bags (one for makeup, and one for skincare/hair products), and of course a fabulous passport case.

Most of my traveling occurred in the beginning of the season, but in about two weeks, I’m planning on visiting my grandparents in Pittsburgh, PA for a few days.  I always love going to Pittsburgh because some of my best friends and family live there, so it feels like a second home (plus, it’s a break from my usual routine).  Not to mention, the Nordstrom there is amazing.

Below are four of my favorite traveling essentials.  Click on each image to go directly to the site of the item.

LA Baby!

In Accessories on July 22, 2011 at 2:28 AM

I have arrived in LA!  I am so happy to be here: the flight was fast and easy, and the temperature is 30 degrees less than in NYC.  Where I could walk around with barely-there clothes on in NYC this week (as the heat’s been blazing), I kind of need a jacket here! (I am enjoying the coolness, though)   The moment I stepped foot in LAX airport, I got the feeling that I knew I’m going to love it here; and believe me, I already do.  I haven’t been to LA in years, so this is kind of like coming for the first time all over again.

I’m staying at a cool, new hotel from Italy that screams chic.  The rooms are stylishly sleek, the lobby is beautiful, and the food is delicious.  When arriving, the hotel gives you complimentary bellinis which are sparkling and sweet (virgin ones too), making for the perfect welcome drink.  I was a little hungry, so I ordered prosciutto covered homemade breadsticks that were out of this world to go with it.  I’d been in my hotel for about only 20 minutes, and there was Kid Rock.

Speaking of Italy, I thought I’d share some cool new bracelets to my Style Solutions readers to read about while I start my LA adventures.

Milan Fashion Week was just a few weeks ago, where a cool line of bracelets were debuted.  The PG Bracelets are known as the ultimate accessory for celebrating Italy’s 150th anniversary.  The designer, Paola Garofalo, launched a line of colorful fabric charm bracelets, inspired by the way we are affected by color.  Each piece is meant to embrace a different mood or emotion.

Simple yet cool with a casual outfit or basic frock, these bracelets will add a subtle chicness to your outfits. I received the dark blue bracelet as a present today, and am excited to pair it with some of my outfits.  Below are some of the color options.  Browse the online store to pick your favorite color!

Monday Style

In Accessories, Clothing, Holiday on July 11, 2011 at 6:33 PM

Hot 90 degree days like today are the times when I crave the Hamptons the most.  Yesterday was absolutely beautiful on the East End, making leaving harder than ever.  I luckily got to spend some time outdoors, taking a walk on the beach, running some errands around town, and having lunch outside at Sant Ambroeus.

I’ve done a surprising amount of shopping this weekend; it always seems I do the most shopping when it’s not planned.  However, it will all come to good use as I am going to LA and San Francisco next week.  Next weekend will be all about California!

Above is a picture of me from Guest of a Guest at the Love Heals event at Luna Farm in which you can see my outfit more clearly.  I love wearing dresses all day and night during these warm sunny days as they make for an effortlessly chic summer outfit.

Today, I’m wearing my fire engine red J Brand jeans that just came back from the cleaners.  It is my first time fashioning them, and I’m really happy with the way I styled them, and the length that was taken off at the cleaners.  I paired my jeans with a tucked-in black v-neck t-shirt and a black Splendid shrug.  I accessorized with black Aldo half-inch heel shoes, a black Hermes belt, a new necklace that I bought this weekend at Therapy (a long gold chain with a medium-sized crystal hanging off of it), and my Louis Vuitton tote.

Hot City, Hot Fashion

In Accessories, Clothing on July 6, 2011 at 5:19 PM

Hot, sticky, gross, humid yet stylish, are the few words that can describe how the city felt, and looked, today.  I woke up bright and early to meet my mom for breakfast at Sant Ambroeus which was noticeably not crowded.  However, I ran into some familiar faces, one being Gossip Girl star, Kelly Rutherford.  Whenever it’s humid out, I somewhat lose my appetite, so I just had an ice cappuccino and fruit salad.

After breakfast, I went into Intermix to find an outfit for a party this weekend.  I found absolutely nothing, and the merchandise looked absolutely cookie cutter.  This is when I made my way off Madison Avenue, and headed for Lexington Avenue.  I had to drop off my red J Brand jeans that I bought a few weeks ago to get shortened as they were too long.  On my way to the cleaners, I passed Roberta Freymann, a store that I either have great success at, or none at all.

It was a hit today at Roberta Freymann.  The selection of clothes, jewelry, and handbags was just what I was looking for.  Colorful, fresh, vibrant, glamorous, and summery.  Roberta Freymann is great for when you want funky blouses, tunics, or dresses because they come in a number of styles, colors, patterns, and are somewhat oversized; this is always good when you’re still feeling all of those hotdogs and hamburgers you ate on Fourth of July.

Freymann is also known for her fabulous bib necklaces.  These aren’t just plain bib necklaces, but they are embellished with oversized stones that are ultra chic.  What I always run to at Freymann’s store (she actually has two on the same street) are her clutches.  Freymann’s clutches are absolutely stunning, coming in various patterns, fabrics, and leathers, embellished with beautiful stones and sequins.

After browsing the store, I ended up making two purchases.  I bought one of the leather envelope clutches in the style of those on the right (but in a different color combo than what’s shown in the picture) to go with a great dress I bought there as well.

Find out this weekend what clutch I bought, and what dress I bought to pair it with…

Color Splash

In Accessories on June 27, 2011 at 7:41 PM

It is hard to believe that this week is already Fourth of July weekend.  I say this every year, but really, where did June go?!  It’s almost like June isn’t really a summer month since some are still in school, nights are rather chilly, and you can get restaurant reservations in the Hamptons without pulling a “do you know who I am?”.  July Fourth Weekend, though, is the weekend in the Hamptons, and marks the official start to what becomes a very lively, happening, chic, fashionable, and jammed packed summer in the Hamptons.

Fourth of July weekend in the Hamptons, for me, means dinners, parties, BBQs, and the beach.  This is the weekend where you bump into everyone, be it your best friend, cousin, Russell Simmons, Sarah Jessica Parker, and even a Kardashian sister.  Regardless of where I am, or what I’m doing, I like all of my outfits to be pulled together.

There are some Fourth of July plans that require a more casual look.  When I want to go casual but still have a fun, summery, and colorful outfit, I like to pull out my white clothes, and bring out my bright accessories.  It’s July, so it’s perfectly fine to go all out with your whites.  I love a pair of white J Brand skinnies with a crisp white sheer blouse, and then fabulous accessories that bring out the ultimate splash of color.

I especially love to bring out color in chunky bangles.  If you’re wearing clothes that are all one color, you want your accessories to be bold.  Jewelry designer Megan Odabash has the perfect bangles to make a colorful statement for your Fourth of July Weekend.  Megan’s bangles are designed with a flecked bone overlay on a gold metal base, giving them a cutting-edge look.

The bangles come in three stunning colors -green, yellow, and orange- which are perfectly on-trend with the citrusy shades.  All three are great options for brightening up your weekend, but I like the orange bangle the best.  Pick out your favorite citrusy shade on for $75.

Feathery, Summery, Trendy

In Accessories on June 22, 2011 at 7:14 PM

Ever since Gwyneth Paltrow made her singing debut on The Grammys in a pair of hot-pink feather earrings, a trend arose.  It used to be enough to wear big diamonds when wanting a bold earring, but now it’s all about wearing feathers; a nature inspired and boho-chic look.

I was never a fan of this feather trend until recently.  But now, I’ve seen jewelry deisgners come out with feather earrings that are glamorous and chic, making for a fun summer piece that I could even see myself wearing.

Even though I wouldn’t classify myself as a boho-chic type of a girl, I would say I attempt dressing like one every now and then.  Sometimes it feels refreshing to throw on a simple black maxi dress, espadrilles, a straw fedora, and a fringe cross-body.  To fulfill this boho-chic look, a pair of feather earrings makes for the perfect finishing touch.

Kelly Killoren Bensimon, one of my favorite stars of The Real Housewives of New York City, has a fabulous jewelry line with the best assortment of bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings.  I especially love Kelly’s feather earrings because they’re not super long like most that I’ve seen, and they’re colorful.

Out of the three feather earrings in Kelly’s jewelry line, I have one favorite: Kelly’s turquoise, red, and brown feather earrings.  Perfect to wear with an outfit as simple as a pair of jean shorts and a t-shirt, or as dressy as a black sequin frock, these colorful earrings will be sure to give your outfit a pop of nature, and color.

Not only are these earrings trendy and stylish, but they are also extremely reasonably priced.  Check out these feather earrings ($65) and other Kelly Killoren Bensimon pieces on

Raquelle Bianco Bangles

In Accessories on June 16, 2011 at 2:18 PM

On a beautiful, warm, and sunny day in NYC, there’s nothing better than relaxing, and blogging, on a rooftop.  Yesterday, I went to a bloggers terrace lunch at communication agency, The Promotion Factory, which introduced me to a new jewelry line that I think is a must for my Style Solutions readers to know about: Raquelle Bianco.

Raquelle Bianco launched in NYC last year, and is carried in over 250 stores across the country.  As said on, Raquelle Bianco jewelry is made for the modern dynamic woman who loves to accessorize on a daily basis.  The line combines love for vivid materials crafted into modern shapes with a nod to family history: traditional icons, classic ornaments and modern symbols are ‘translated’ into contemporary and fun jewelry with imaginative details.

During the summertime, I love to fashion endless amounts of jewelry.  It’s the season to bring out your most colorful and bold pieces, be it your earrings, necklaces, watches, bracelets, or rings; you name it.  However, if I had to classify myself as one type of girl, I would definitely say I am a bangle girl.

Style Solutions readers, it’s time to stack it up this summer with Raquelle Bianco bangles!  There were three bangles that particularly struck my attention that are part of the Instinct Collection (in photo above), all of which define wild life due to their zebra, cheetah, and tiger prints.  All three bangles ($400 each) will look great stacked together because they compliment one another due to their color, print, and crystal/stone embellishment.  My favorite bangle of the three is the zebra print one because it is classic and will match with everything.

All of the bangles are glamorous, cool, and fun, and will be great editions to your summer wardrobe.  Whether you’re wearing one out to lunch with friends, or stacking all three for a fabulous dinner party on the beach, you’ll be dazzling in these Raquelle Bianco bangles in no time.

Check out to browse other pieces, and to find a store near you.  (Photo 1&2 credit: Daniel Haim from

Love For YSL

In Accessories, Shoes on June 14, 2011 at 4:56 PM

Yves saint Laurent was a designer that I’ve loved and adored for years.  Between fashioning some of his older works, and admiring some of his newer works, Laurent is one of the greatest names in fashion history.

The YSL brand is classic, cool, hip, and trendy.  YSL’s clothes are extraordinarily beautiful, but my love goes more towards the shoes and bags, and more recently the jewelry too.  My grandma has some amazing YSL jackets from the 70s that I wear ever-so-often, and my favorite is a black blazer with military-esq shoulders, and three large gold antique-looking buttons going down the middle: it is a chic all year round basic.

My favorite YSL shoes right now are the Tribute Sandals.  Coming in a variety of colors like green, purple, black, and red, these are some of the hottest shoes I’ve seen in a while.  They are ultra sexy and feminine, and are great statement-makers when pairing them with a cute dress or skirt.

The Sac 57 Handbags are currently my favorite bags by YSL.  They are roomy enough for all of your needs, yet aren’t too big to bring out for dinner when coming from work.  I especially love the black embellished with studs handbag because it’s giving this classic tote an edgy twist.

YSL’s Gold Plated Rings have also grabbed my attention due to the wide range of different materials embellished in the gold plate like glass and wood.  These rings are funky and trendy, and look great with both casual and dressy outfits.

What’s your favorite YSL item?

Hand It Over

As we continue to gear into the blazing months of summer, we feel less (and less) eager to wear black handbags.  Summer is the season to bring out color, especially with handbags.  Put away that black tote for a little while, and try out a brighter hue that will give your outfits some excitement!

Melie Bianco Vivian’s ‘Woven Bucket Bag‘: Perfect for dumping all of your necessities in, this cool aqua bag will give your summer outfits some beachy flavor.  Cute with a pair of jean shorts and brown wedges, you’ll be sure to rock this bucket bag everyday of the week.

Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Lucy’: Sophisticated for business meetings, chic for elegant lunches, and fun for walks around town, this ostrich-effect PVC tote is a perfect summer stunner.  Continue the bold color scheme with bright hot pink shorts, a simple grey or white t-shirt, and a sharp black blazer.

Elliot Mann’s ‘Indie Bag‘: Bring on the yellow!  Fashion this unique bag topped with coins, beads, and old ribbons from reclaimed vintage Afghani wedding bells.  This is the perfect funky summer bag.

Hats, Hats, Hats!

In Accessories on June 7, 2011 at 5:56 PM

On these beautiful, hot, and sunny days, protecting your skin is very important.  My dad is a dermatologist, so I’ve been exposed to wearing a high SPF at a young age.  However, there are some days where I’m just not in the mood to wear sunscreen, so instead I find cute accessories that will help cover me up like sunglasses and hats. (photo: Teen Vogue)

Finding hats that I don’t think look silly on me is a never-ending challenge.  I go through dozens before finding the perfect one, and my search never stays local-Miami, Palm Beach, The Hamptons, and even Rome and Paris.  This summer, it’s all about straw hats.   I’ve browsed many hats this season (be it at stores, online, or on the pages of magazines) and want to share with you some of my personal favorites.

1. Zara’s Raffia Hat ($25.90): Want a great and affordable fedora that is chic enough for a polo match or luncheon?  This Zara fedora is classic with a twist (beige straw with a green, black, and blue ribbon).  All you need is a great pair of Ray Bans to go with it.

2. Kate Spade’s Stripe Straw Hat ($75): We love Kate Spade for her adorable wallets and jewelry, and now we love her even more for her fun and girly summer hats!  The sun won’t be the only thing shining on you this summer-get ready to hit the beach in this ultra glamorous natural and yellow hat that will give your beach looks a pop of color.

3. Hat Attack’s Raffia Fedora ($78): This hat is for the girl who wants an edgy and hip look.  Rock this braided two-toned fedora with a funky graphic t-shirt and colorful jean shorts for a fun day around town.  This hat is all about being bold.

Clasp Goes The Claw

While the talks of Fall fashion have already begun -spare me the emails about the new Fall arrivals at Bergdorfs, Barneys, Cusp, etc for just a few more months! (please)– I’m still on Summer fashion.  I’ve had many favorite collections this season, but 3.1 Phillip Lim has impressed me the most.  I always love the designs of Phillip Lim due to his easy, feminine, and chic clothes.

Lim has a great store downtown in Soho that I try to stop in when I’m in the neighborhood to check out the newest pieces. Lim’s clothes are truly magnificent even though his clothes are extremely expensive.

If you’re a Phillip Lim fan who wants to fashion something new and cool, but doesn’t want to spend too much, then you’re in for a great read.  High fashion designers like Lim come out with fabulous accessories that are less than their runway items.  This is a benefit because you’ll be wearing a Lim masterpiece yet you won’t be spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Lim just came out with a stylish ‘Tri Brick Box Necklace‘ that can be also be recognized as a bib necklace.  It is made of mixed materials with box braids and beaded accents.  The two toned ribbon strand is with white stitching and tubular bead details.  Clasping the necklace together is an oversized silver lobster-claw with a hanging “PL” engraved charm that is so under the sea.

The necklace is in navy blue, white, and black, so why not stick with the nautical color pallet?  Wear this necklace with a black racer-back tank top, bold blue jean shorts, black gladiator sandals, a red hobo, silver studs, black Ray Bans, and a black and white fedora.  For makeup, apply red lipgloss.

The ‘Tri Brick Box Necklace’ is available on for $195.

No To The Beach, But Yes To The Beach Bag

In Accessories, Hamptons on May 30, 2011 at 10:25 AM

Last night was full of parties in the Hamptons.  Everything from movie premieres, to magazine parties, to store events, and more.  I attended The Hamptons Magazine Party, and a shopping event at Southampton store, Tenet.  The Hamptons Magazine Party (at The Southampton Social Club) never fails to disappoint with its A-list crowd, yummy hors d’oeuvres, great DJ, and fabulous giveaways.  Attendees included Chelsea Handler (the cover star of the May issue of Hamptons Magazine), Beth Ostrosky Stern, Katie Lee Joel, Jonathan Cheban, and more.  Lacoste had a large table full of giveaways that attendees could choose from: sandals, watches, hats, etc.  The party at Tenet was chill and fashionable with its young crowd, and ability to shop the great selection of clothes, shoes, and accessories from brands like Gryphon, Whit, and more.

Luckily, the sun was shining all of last night for those who were out and about; however, not today.  The weather is incredibly unpredictable.  Today was supposed to be the warmest and sunniest day of Memorial Day Weekend on the East End; however, as I am currently looking out my window, it’s pouring.  For those in the Hamptons, I don’t think it’s going to be a beach day, but don’t worry, because we have the whole summer ahead of us.

Even though this won’t come in great use today, it will for the next three months.  Mar Y Sol just came out with a fabulous ‘Leather Handled Straw Tote‘ that is chic, cool, and reasonably priced.  Perfect for the beach, this tote is big enough for all of your needs: beach towel, sunscreen, light reads, sunglasses, ipod, phone,  popchips, you name it.  I love the combination of colors, natural with green detail, because it’s simple yet with a pop of color.

The tote can be worn with lots of different outfits and suits, but here’s a suggestion: a sexy cheetah one-piece bathing suit, black Burberry jelly sandals, round tortoise shades, a brown oversized fedora, and brown feather earrings.  Check out the tote on for $98.

Sydney Interviews Jennifer Miller

In Accessories, Hamptons, Interview/Personal Appearance on May 28, 2011 at 8:27 AM

From The Hamptons, to NYC, to Palm Beach, Jennifer Miller’s jewelry stores are the best to shop in.  A sweet, fun, and trendy woman herself, I had the opportunity to interview Jennifer Miller for Style Solutions. (In photo: Jennifer Miller & husband/business partner, Mark Ehret)

S: How did you get into the jewelry business?

J: I grew up in a family where everyone was in the fashion industry.  Jewelry has always been in my blood, but I resisted the business while I had another career.  I was first in the cosmetic business, but I was a jewelry collector and lover my entire life.  I had always spent my paycheck on jewels, but then decided to make my business jewelry. I started with a store within a store at Zoom in Southampton in 1991.  I then opened my own stores in Southampton, NYC, Easthampton, and Palm Beach.

S: You have an amazing way of merchandising real with costume jewelry (even in the same case!)  What’s your strategy?

J: It’s unfamiliar to clients because they can’t tell what’s real or not.  We merchandise together to show that whether you want to spend $95 or $1000, it all looks great.  My husband and I do all of the buying.

S: It appears that not just customers are shopping, but many stylists come to select jewelry for their clients.

J: Before the reality stars became these stars, they were either friends, customers, or acquaintances.  Once they started their career, they found Jennifer Miller to be an easy one-stop shop.  They all wear everything beautifully, and represent the Jennifer Miller brand: the perfect place to shop for everyone, and always yourself.

S: What’s your most popular piece right now?

J: The Hampton Earring.  It’s $95 (great for those on a budget readers!), not too big, not too small, right amount of sparkle, and is great for the girl who wants one earring that will go with everything no matter where you go.

S: What are the trends for summer?

J: Right now, there are lots of leathers with sparkle: a combination of leather with flair.

S: You recently added great hostess gifts in your SH store.  What inspired you?

J: I have a passion for beautiful things.  Everything I like to give as hostess gifts I want in my store because my store is like my home.  Clients come into my Hamptons stores looking for gifts to bring to parties, so instead of buying jewelry all of the time, they can now buy trays, candles, salad tossers, and more.

A big thanks to Jennifer, and be sure to check out her stores and website!

Which Sunglass Are You?

In Accessories on May 25, 2011 at 7:49 PM

The start of Memorial Day weekend is only two days away, and I am so excited.  What better way to kick off the weekend that screams “summer is here” then with a great pair of shades?  Sunglasses are one of my most important and used accessories: I cannot live without them.  In rain or shine, you will find a pair of shades in my bag, be it a classic Ray Ban, a mens Louis Vuitton, or a lucite Derek Lam.

Each Spring and beginning of Summer, we witness a number of sunglass trends.  This season is all about the dramatic Lady Gaga-esq cateyes, the funky and colorful lucites, and the ever-so-Ozzy Osbourne rounds.  Each trend is bold and fierce, so finding the right trendy shade for you is all based on personal preference.  If you want something animal-like, feminine, and powerful, go for the cateye.  If you want a hip and colorful look, try out a lucite.  And if you want something simple yet chic, a round shade might just be right for you.

Sunglasses tend to be expensive, but there are some deals.  In photo Cateye, the pair on the left is $145 by Ray Ban, and the pair on the right is $180 by Karen Walker.  In photo Lucite, both shades are $89 by Jack Willis.  In photo Round, both shades are by Illesteva: the pair on the left is $165, and the pair on the right is $160.  Which sunglass trend are you?  Vote now Style Solutions readers!

Good Enough To Eat

In Accessories on May 23, 2011 at 4:39 PM

Having an eclectic mix of jewelry in your jewelry box is extremely beneficial, especially during the summer.  Why, you may ask?  Because bright, colorful, and statement-making pieces can bring that simple summer outfit -shorts and a t-shirt- to an entire different level of fabulousness.  When it gets hot out, we find ourselves wanting to wear light and effortless clothing; however, we still want to have that glamorous and trendy look.   Style Solution: a chunky necklace.

When I was in the Hamptons on Saturday, I stopped in one of my favorite stores: Intermix.  There are many Intermix locations across the US, but I find myself most successful in the Southampton location due to the excellent salespeople, large space, and trendy selection of items.

While browsing the store, I came across a fabulous necklace that was pure eye candy.  The necklace is by Lee Angel, and is chunky, bold, colorful, fun, and dramatic.  The necklace is styled with overlapping layers of highly polished pink, coral, amber, and natural shade beads in irregular shapes and sizes hanging from a shiny gold chain.

The necklace will look great with a variety of different outfits, but here’s one way of wearing it.  Wear this fashionable Rock Candy Necklace with coral shorts, a grey t-shirt, coral and/or yellow pumps, a yellow clutch, and coral sunglasses.  To continue with this cool list of colors, paint your nails in Chanel’s Mimosa, and give yourself a glossy coral lip.  The Rock Candy Necklace is available on for $168.

For those of you who are in NYC tomorrow, join Yelena Kats at The Carlyle for a trunk show to view and choose from her exclusive collection of sandals and jewelry from the magical island of Capri.  35 East 76th Street, Suite 2001 NYC.

Light and Easy

In Accessories on May 18, 2011 at 6:47 PM

On hot and busy summer days, we must fashion and travel lightly.  Summers get extremely hot here in the Big Apple, making New Yorkers need to dress for summertime success. I always find myself in two dilemmas during the summer: how to dress for the boiling hot temperatures outside and for the freezing cold air-conditioning inside.  Plus, how to find that right summer handbag.

In terms of how to dress, it’s important to be dressed and chic, yet still be comfortable in the never-ending heat.  Accomplish this by wearing fun and light (but dressy) skirts, dresses, or shorts with blouses and easy cardigans.  When it comes to the right handbag, lets face it, there is never just one.  Sometimes we need small clutches, while other days we need large totes.  It is important, though, to find a happy medium.

A great handbag solution for the summer is a cross-body.  Yes, we’ve seen these a lot this year, but there’s something about a cross-body that is perfect for ease, chicness, and lightness.  Rebecca Minkoff just came out with a new cross-body, ‘Baby Belle Cross-Body‘, that is for the girl who wants to carry her essentials only.  It’s always fun to see what’s in others’ handbags, like in the US Weekly Section, “What’s In My Bag”.  My essentials go a little like this: my reporters notebook, my hot-pink camera, my blackberry, my Chanel Eyeliner, my MAC lipstick, my money, and my keys.

The summery black and beige straw cross-body with brown leather and gold chain strap will look great with a brown leather skirt, a funky t-shirt in white, black, grey, and brown, black cat-eye sunglasses, black and beige wedges, and brown hanging earrings.  Give your nails a pop of color with metallic gold nail polish.  Check out the handbag on for $150.

Citrusy Accessory

In Accessories on May 17, 2011 at 6:46 PM

It’s all about citrus this summer: oranges, lemons, and limes.  How did these citrusy shades -orange, yellow, and green- come about to being a hot trend this season?  Maybe it’s the urge to feel like you’re vacationing on a tropical island, or the urge to find yourself a fun and girly color that isn’t so predictable, like pink.  Or maybe it’s the influence of the 1970s.  Which ever reason it may be, I’m loving the citrus trend, and it’s not just because I’m a huge fan of lemonade, limeade and orangeade.

Orange, yellow, and green are fun, bright, and bold colors.  They are this season’s pops of color, and are incorporated into clothing, shoes, accessories, and beauty products. Stella McCartney used citrus shades for her line of spring/summer clothes, while Chanel used citrus shades for its line of summer nail polish.

Incorporating some form of citrus -be it solids or patterns- in your summer wardrobe is key, so why not start off with a citrusy accessory?  Annie Harmer just came out with a fabulously glamorous ‘Green and Citrus Triple Hoop Earring‘.  The earrings have an extremely luxurious and high-end look with their sparkling rows of green, citrine, and amber-colored Swarovski crystals in different lengths and shapes, dangling ever-so-beautifully.

The earrings can dress up a casual look to perfection by being an accent, but not being too overpowering.  Wear these beauties with a fun pair of orange jeans (good bye blues), a beige cropped blouse, nude and wooden wedges, a nude tote, and nude/black sunglasses.  For makeup, give yourself a shimmering nude (tinted with a little orange) lip, and paint your nails lime green.

The Annie Hammer earrings are available on for $100.

Street Vendor Chic

In Accessories on May 9, 2011 at 6:25 PM

When I was in Soho on Saturday, I came across a street vendor.  Not a street vendor who sells fake Louis Vuittons or Ray Bans, but a street vendor who sells adorable jewelry.  I love shopping downtown because you can find little vendors and boutiques that sell unique items.  I’m all about buying clothes, jewelry, and shoes that no one else has because then you are the trendsetter.

The vendor I came across is on the corner of Mercer in front of Mercer Kitchen, one of my favorite restaurants.  The vendor is an older man, and his wife is who picks out the fabulous selection of jewelry.  The table entailed a eclectic mix of colorful and chunky rings, bracelets, necklaces, and more.  I usually find that most street vendors’ collections are somewhat junky, but not the one I went to.

I purchased three pieces of jewelry, and I’m going to show you two.  The first piece of jewelry I bought is a peacock necklace.  The peacock’s head is in gold, its neck is embellished with crystals, and the feathers are gold charms embellished with coral, lavender, and orange stones.  The chic animal hangs off of a long gold chain, which I love.  The necklace is fun and colorful, and it’s a great summer piece.

To go with my necklace, I bought a wide gold cuff embellished with coral stones in a mesh-like material.  The bracelet is extremely soft and light which is a plus since most cuffs weigh a ton.  The bracelet looks great with my necklace because the beads and embellishments are in a similar circular shape and color to the feathers of the peacock.  Each item cost a mere $20: great items for great prices.

On Saturday night, I decided to wear my new jewels to Beauty & Essex with my friend Alex.  I paired my necklace and bracelet with blue jeans that have legging material from the mid-thigh down, my new American Apparel black sleeveless blouse, and my black BCBG wedges.

I’m heading back to Meat Packing tonight for dinner at the Standard Grill.  I would have never imagined to spend this much time downtown!

Only In New York…

In Accessories on May 5, 2011 at 7:38 PM

New York City is one of those places where remarkable things happen, and nowhere else.  My Thursday morning started off as usual: Physics class.  I was not what I would call looking forward to first period because I was pretty tired; however, today’s class was anything but boring.  My science teacher decided that we should relocate in Central Park, and try out our new experiment: shooting black stoppers across the park (as you can see, this apparently required goggles, neon blue ones to be exact, which I was making sure to securely tighten around my head).

On our way out of the park, boy did we come across a familiar face: Bono, from U2.  I don’t get starstruck, but I have to say it was a pretty cool “run in” considering Central Park felt empty, and it was Bono: I immediately recognized him due to his signature sunglasses.  As Cindy Adams says, “only in New York kids, only in New York”.

After school, I passed by one of my favorite stores Wink NYC, where I came across an adorable handbag for Spring and come Summer.   I love metallics, and feel that they’re not a trend that goes in and out, but one that is here to stay.

Claire Vivier just came out with a handbag called ‘Shopping Tote Anthracite‘ that will give your outfits an extra ounce of glamour and color.  The tote is extremely accessible due to its reach-in design, so you won’t have to worry about not finding your belongings.  The tote will look great with all of your Spring and Summer basics, and be a go-to day tote.  It looks as if there is a splash of every color, so don’t be afraid to match this tote with more than one color.

Check out the Claire Vivier tote on  for $172.

Of The Moment: Colorblock

In Accessories on April 30, 2011 at 5:57 PM

After a light breakfast at one of my favorite restaurants, E.A.T., I headed to the Bronx to accept a silver key that I won from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for my article, Why Do We Choose Breast Augmentation Surgery?  I wrote this article while at Harvard last summer, and it felt great for it to be acknowledged. The ceremony lasted for the majority of the afternoon, and it included guest speakers like Steve Young, Emmy Nominee and writer for David Letterman, the Simpons, and more, and Benjamin Taylor, novelist, essayist, and professor.

It didn’t take me long to figure out what I would wear to the ceremony.  I fashioned a Chanel-looking, but from Anthropologie, multicolored tweed blazer with silver buttons, black leggings, black pumps, and my Balenciaga black purse.  For jewelry, I kept it simple by wearing a silver ring with a few stones, a small diamond necklace, and my watch.

After wearing such simple and small jewelry today, I find myself now browsing online stores, and being most attracted to large and chunky jewelry.  It was nice to have a more delicate look (in terms of jewelry) today, but I’m definitely more about wearing big jewelry.

Marc by Marc Jacobs just came out with a very cool ‘Colorblock Bolt Bangle‘.  The bangle comes in three colors -red, cream, and yellow- and the cream is my favorite.  I love these hexagonal bangles for a few reasons:  1. The bangles can be warn singly or stacked.  2. The bangles (as said on feature bright, contrasting hues in of-the-moment colorblocked style.  3. They’re so chic.

Wear the bangles with a nude lace sleeveless dress, red low-heel patent shoes, a yellow patent clutch, and red sunglasses.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs bangles are available on for $68 each.

Funky Headphone Umbrella

In Accessories, On Location on April 18, 2011 at 10:48 PM

Before I had to catch my train back to NYC yesterday, I made sure to get a picture of myself in front of The White House.  Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always admired the elegance of the architecture of The White House: it’s unbelievable to think that 46 Presidents have lived in it.  Visiting The White House is especially nice during the Spring because there are always gorgeous flowers planted in front of the house: I got to see red, white, and purple tulips.

Today was a usual school day, but then I went to New Jersey to spend the first night of Passover with my family.  Happy Passover to those of you who observe!  Passover is always fun because the holiday is full of tradition.  The first night is spent at my cousin’s house in New Jersey (everyone, coincidentally, sits in the same seat every year), and the second night is held at my apartment where other relatives come for a delicious dinner made by my mom.   I always look forward to the holiday because the food is amazing (more than you could possibly eat), I get to spend time with relatives and friends, and there are always those funny stories from “the olden days” with papa Harry who comes down every year from Florida.

This evening, I wore black leggings with a pink and purple blouse, purple wedges, a black raincoat, and a black tote.  It was supposed to rain while I was out, but it luckily didn’t start until I pulled up to my building.  It’s supposed to rain in NYC tomorrow too, so I won’t be putting away my raincoat just yet.  I don’t like when it rains, and I frankly try to avoid it by wearing the best clothing, shoes, and accessories for the weather.  April is the month of Spring showers, so carrying an umbrella with you is essential.  Forget about the cheap black umbrellas you buy off the streets that stop working after one rain shower: it’s time to invest in one fun and chic umbrella for all of those rainy days.

Moschino Cheap and Chic (Moschino’s less expensive line) recently came out with a funky and cool umbrella that is perfect for these ongoing Spring showers.  The umbrella is solid gray with black pipping, and is covered with multicolored headphones in neon pink, yellow, green, and blue.  I love this umbrella because it’s not your typical pattern; it’s unique.  You don’t have to match the umbrella with your outfit, but if you want to, the umbrella would give a classic-looking outfit an edge: a lavender dress, black pumps, a periwinkle leather handbag, a black sparkly cuff, crystal earrings, and lavender nail polish.

The Moschino Cheap and Chic umbrella is available on for $84.

Hi from Washington D.C!  I certainly felt the political vibe when arriving in this charming city when the first things I saw upon my arrival were the State Capitol and the American Flag.  I always look forward to visiting D.C because I love Georgetown: the food, and of course the shopping, are always up to my level of liking.  Also, seeing the White House never gets old.  I’m not in D.C to vacation, but to visit colleges.  However, I will definitely be making some shopping trips to Georgetown when I have free time, in addition to seeing some relatives.

While I was on the train from NYC to D.C, listening to OneRepublic and Lady Gaga on my iPod and lusting over Selena Gomez’s red carpet looks in US Magazine, I was seated across from a girl who was quite fashionable: she wore skinny jeans, a funky t-shirt, wedges, a patent-leather tote, and a gold cuff.  I couldn’t help but notice that it was the simplicity yet boldness of the cuff that gave her outfit an effortlessly chic look.

After seeing the cuff while on the train, I decided to browse the internet to find a cuff similar to the one the girl was wearing.  Although I loved that her cuff was solid gold, I’m all about a little twist, a twist that has a hint of glamour.  I found a cuff by Reiss that has a combined look of simplicity and glamour.

Reiss just came out with a ‘Gwyneth‘ gold cuff that has a square clasp embellished with a crystal (possibly inspired by fashion icon Gwyneth Paltrow? It would only make sense).  The cuff being solid gold is the simplicity, and the crystal clasp is the glamour.  Not only can you wear this bracelet with simple yet chic numbers such as jeans and a t-shirt (like the girl on the train), but you can also wear it with a dressier outfit.  Wear this Reiss cuff with a bright pink dress, gold strappy high-heel sandals, an orange and pink clutch with a gold clasp, oversized orange sunglasses, and paint your nails in either neon orange, pink, or purple.

The cuff is available on for $115.  How’s the start of your weekend?

Topshop vs Proenza Schouler

In Accessories on April 11, 2011 at 7:33 PM

For the past few weeks, I’ve been raving about the gorgeous Spring weather, but now I get to rave about the Summer-like weather that hit NYC today. It was incredibly and comfortably warm out today with people un-jacketed, sunglasses on, and frozen yogurt or a cold drink in hand.  I was one of those New Yorkers: suede jacket stuffed in my bag rather than me wearing it, Butterfield coffee frozen yogurt with mango and carob chips on top in hand, and evidence sunglasses on.

Tonight I am going to NYC hotspot Beauty & Essex for my friends Sunny and Nicole’s birthdays.  As I was on my way to pick up their gifts, I saw an abnormal amount of women carrying the new and incredibly popular Proenza Schouler “PS1” handbag.  The Proenza handbags come in multiple sizes, but the medium size bag seems to be most popular amongst NYC women.  The handbags come in a wide range of colors -nude, green, peach, brown, black (just to name a few)- and are the perfect size for women who need an all-day handbag that is practical and chic.

The downside to these “It” handbags are the fact that they are over $1,000; but, don’t worry.  Topshop recently came out with similar looking handbags -‘Punch Out Detail Lady Bag‘- that are just as colorful and fun and are actually a bit moderner looking.  The Topshop handbag comes in two colors, nude and coral, and are a great accessory to have for Spring and come Summer.  I like both colors because they’re easy to match with shoes clothes, and other accessories.  The nude bag is more basic while the coral bag is a bit brighter and fun, so it all depends on what you’re looking for.  I also love the punch out trim detail, gold clasp, and the ability to attach a long strap so you can wear it as a crossbody when needed.

Wear the nude handbag with a white button-down shirt, blue skinny jeans, brown leather wedges, tortoise sunglasses, a gold cuff with dark multicolored stones, and bronze makeup.  Wear the coral handbag with a navy-blue boyfriend blazer, blue skinny jeans, navy blue patent leather peep-toe pumps, navy blue and brown sunglasses, a coral/peach geometric shaped cuff, and apply peach eyeshadow to your eyes.

The ‘Punch Out Detail Lady Bags’ are available on for $70: check them out.

Rag & Bone Spring Essentials

In Accessories, Clothing on April 9, 2011 at 6:21 PM

Instead of my alarm clock or someone in my apartment telling me to wake up, this morning I was woken up by the sun coming through my window.  It felt so good to wake up to a bright sky and Spring weather, making me want to get out of bed and start my Saturday immediately.  My Saturday started off with breakfast at Max Brenner’s new Upper East Side cafe, Little Brown Chocolate Bakery and Coffee.  The new eatery is perfect for quick and easy food, and I particularly loved their assortment of beverages and baked goods.

Afterwards, I ran a bunch of errands.  I needed a sports bra from Victoria Secrets, and some new Spring lipsticks from MAC at Bloomingdales.  As I was purchasing my makeup, I spotted Carson Kressley, stylist and member of the fab 5 from TV show Queer Eye For The Straight Guy: I loved the show.

As I was browsing in some different stores uptown and midtown, I came across two different items by Rag & Bone that are must-haves for Spring and come Summer.  One is a piece of clothing while the other is an accessory, and they are not meant to be warn together.  The two Rag & Bone items that are my newest obsession are ‘blush mid-rise cropped skinny jeans‘ and a ‘short brim beach hat‘.

The blush Rag & Bone skinny jeans are a chic and fun alternative to a simple blue jean.  The color is basic yet cool, and will look fresh for Spring.  Take advantage of the warmer months by wearing color.  Dark colors are still needed, but bright colors make every outfit more fun.  The jeans will look great with a white short-sleeve blouse, nude patent leather peep-toe pumps, a rose-gold watch, a rose-gold ring, a nude handbag with rose-gold hardware, gold sunglasses, and a shiny pink lip.

The ‘short brim beach hat’ is an adorable hat for Spring and Summer.  The hat will look great when walking around during the weekend, having a picnic in the park, or when it gets to Summer, hanging out at the beach.  I used to hate hats, but now I find them to be a cute accessory when they have a little twist.  I love this Rag & Bone hat because the blue piece of fabric rapped around it takes the simplicity of the basic straw hat to the next level.  Wear this hat with faded blue skinny jeans, a black short-sleeve blouse, black wedges, a black and beige tote, a turquoise and gold ring and bracelet, and apply blue eyeshadow to your eyes.

The jeans are available on for $155 and the hat is available on for $195.

Sneaky, Slimy, Snake

In Accessories on April 8, 2011 at 6:05 PM

love animal jewelry, especially pieces that are designed to look like a snake.  However, my love for snakes stops right there: the animal freaks me out in real life.  If there is one memory I will never forget from my early years in elementary school, it’s going to the Central Park Zoo with my 3rd grade class to learn about snakes, and getting the “opportunity” to hold them.  To some this was exciting, but to me this was horrifying.  I look at the creature as being slimy and sneaky, not the type of animal I would want as a pet.  Surprisingly, I am obsessed with snake-shaped jewelry, and wear a snake piece of jewelry everyday.

When my aunt was a teenager, she received a gold snake ring with green emerald eyes for one of her birthdays.  When I was about 10 years old, I was visiting my grandparents in Pittsburgh, PA and decided to go through some drawers in my mom and aunt’s bedroom as a child.  In a drawer was a little jewelry box with the snake ring in it.  I fell in love with the ring from the moment I found it, and knew it had to be mine.  My aunt let me keep the ring, and I have worn it everyday since I laid eyes on it.  The ring has become a daily basic, and I wear it with anything from a pair of jeans and a blouse to a sequin cocktail dress.

Actress, Angelina Jolie, was spotted wearing a gold snake ring that looks similar to mine.  Snake rings are definitely a must-have.

Even though I love my snake ring, there are some days when I wish it had a little pizzaz.  BCBG just came out with three adorable and glamorous rhinestone snake rings in three different color options: green and gold, blue and gold, and light gold and gold.  All three color options are great for Spring because they’re fun, sparkly and girly: the blue snake ring is my favorite.

Wear this blue snake ring with camel leather shorts, a navy-blue blouse, navy-blue wedges, a navy-blue handbag with silver hardware, multicolored sunglasses, and a camel cropped fur vest if it’s chilly outside.  The three rings are available on for $138: check them out.

Bright and Blue Envelope Clutch

This evening, I went to Lincoln Center to see the New York Philharmonic Orchestra perform.  Orchestra type music isn’t what I would say is my favorite genre, but music that I like to listen to every now and then.  Sometimes it’s easy to forget about live instrumental music when you hear Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, or any other of the top iTunes top 100 songs constantly being played on the radio, so this was a nice change.

I wanted to be comfortable yet dressy since I knew I would be sitting for a number of hours.  I fashioned a tan short-sleeve blouse embellished with black beads, black pants, black pumps, a silver, gold, and black clutch, a chunky black and crystal cocktail ring, and a long black coat with bow buttons.

Clutch’s are my favorite types of purses to wear during the evening.  Wearing large purses out for a dinner, party, concert, etc doesn’t always look right, but a clutch does.  As we get further into Spring and closer to Summer, bright handbags are a must for giving your outfit that extra pop of color.

I have an assortment of clutches that differ based on color: some darker and more basic like solid black, and others more colorful and fun like neon green.  I recently came across an adorable clutch that is on my favorite list of brights and will look great for Spring and Summer.

Marc by Marc Jacobs just came out with a ‘Bianca Dreams of Monte Carlo raffia and leather clutch‘.  I love this clutch due to its color, turquoise, and elegant yet funky look with its raffia material.  Keeping the clutch safe and closed is a gold twist-lock, and inside the handbag is stripped lining in ocean sapphire.

Wear the clutch with a grey button-down dress, grey flats embellished with gold studs, gold, black, and white hanging earrings, a black cuff with blue and red piping, and gold sunglasses.  You can also belt the dress with a black belt if you feel it needs it.

The clutch is available on for $200.

Sex and the City, and a Whole Lot of Jewelry

In Accessories on April 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM

After a fun evening with my friends last night, I attempted to go to sleep, but I simply tossed and turned for hours.  I ended up getting a second wind, and decided to watch some old episodes of Sex and the City that I had recently recorded on E!.  As I watch the episodes 7 years later from the time the show was on HBO, the story lines are more meaningful now, and Carrie Bradshaw’s character is more relatable.

Even though I didn’t get much sleep last night, I woke up early this morning and decided to pop in the Sex and the City 2 DVD.  I’ve seen the movie about five times now, but it gets better and better every time.  I have so many favorite parts of the film, from Liza Minnelli’s “Single Ladies” performance to Carrie’s run-in with ex-boyfriend Aidan at the spice market, and many more.  What I loved most, though, was when the four friends from NYC went in a back room of a flower shop with some Abu Dhabi women, who when taking off their black veil coverings, actually had the latest couture clothing on underneath.

A few weeks after Sex and the City 2 came out in theaters, I remember having coffee with my mom at NYC coffee hot spot Nespresso, where next to us were two women with black veil coverings.  On these women’s arms were stunning stone embellished bangles in gorgeous colors, bracelets that I have never seen in the US and you could tell were not from here.  I asked the women where they got their bangles, and they said in Abu Dhabi.  We started talking about jewelry, clothes, and shoes, and I remember giggling afterwards because it reminded me of my favorite scene in Sex and the City 2.

I recently purchased adorable bangles that are from Chamak by Priya Bio.  The bangles somewhat remind me of the bangles the women I sat next to at Nespresso were wearing: the aesthetic, three color combination, and stone embellishment.  The bangles that I purchased come in a set of four and are embellished with gray, copper, and golds stones.  I love these bangles because they match with everything, and definitely have that sparkle and glamour that I admired from the bracelets the women sitting next to me were fashioning.

Wear these stone bangles with a floral blouse in black, yellow, and orange, black skinny jeans, black oxford booties, a light brown/camel small shoulder bag, gold earrings with crystal embellishment, a gold and orange cocktail ring, and round shaped sunglasses.  Paint your nails in an orange/red shade, and apply nude lipstick to your lips.  The bangles are available on for $44.

Neon Obsession

In Accessories on March 30, 2011 at 9:26 AM

Neon colors are definitely making a fashion statement this Spring.  I’ve always felt that neons have a cooler look than plain colors, possibly because they’re so bright that they literally make you glow.  I’ve seen neons used in clothing, shoes, and accessories: neons always make something simple more exciting and fun.

I’ve come across various pieces of clothing in neon colors that I love: dresses, jackets, skirts, and pants.  However, there’s something about a neon purse that makes the ultimate accessory when wanting to wear the chicest outfit.

Kate Spade just came out with a handbag that is in neon colors, and will be obsessed over by Chanel lusters and lovers.  Kate Spade’s new handbag, ‘Jardin Tweed Robin‘ is a modern/hipper and less expensive approach of the Chanel tweed handbags that are stunning, but just way too expensive.  I came across this “tweed” while at Bloomingdales in Boston, and this handbag was definitely a hit.

Not only am I obsessed with the colorful tweed pattern (neon green, neon yellow, neon pink, and white), but I particularly love the hot pink turn-lock closure and chain with gold hardware which both noticeably top off this adorable handbag.  Since this handbag screams neon, why not go all out with a complete neon ensemble?

Wear this Kate Spade handbag with a neon pink button-down, black leggings, black pumps with a hot pink sole (Louboutins, sadly, won’t work), neon yellow hanging earrings, neon bangles embellished with glamorous crystals, black sunglasses, and neon green or neon pink nail polish to tie off this stunning look.

The Kate Spade ‘Jardin Tweed Robin’ handbag is available on for $245.

Fabric Necklaces

Boy did I pack wrong for my weekend in Boston!  Thinking it would be on the warmer side like in New York  City, I packed a variety of blouses and just one sweater.  Plus, I didn’t even bring a heavy jacket: I brought my black fur vest that doesn’t do justice in this windy yet charming city.  It doesn’t seem like Boston has been hit with Spring fever just yet, but the city will soon enough.

After a long morning and afternoon of college visiting, a few hours of shopping was much needed.  For some reason, I am always more successful at shopping outside of New York: perhaps I’m more relaxed, and have more time, although I always feel like I’m rushing somewhere.  I did best at Saks Fifth Avenue, whose contemporary section is so much better than at the Saks in NYC.  I got a great white loose-knit sweater, a multicolored blouse that is finally on sale after I’ve been eyeing it for months, and a camel suede BCBG jacket that is perfect for chilly yet sunny days.

As I sit here in my hotel resting before dinner, I still feel eager to browse my favorite fashion sites like Net-a-Porter and Shopbop. While browsing the different sites, I came across a large number of fabric necklaces, a noticeable jewelry trend for Spring.  Of course out of all of the necklaces displayed on the sites, my favorite was the $575 Missoni one, ‘Large Tube Circle Necklace‘, that is colorful, bold, and tribal looking.

Spending almost $600 on a necklace isn’t reasonable, so I found a necklace that has a similar look to the Missoni necklace but is less expensive.  MNG by Mango just came out with a ‘Multi Stripe Necklace‘ that has a combination of a nautical and tribal vibe.  This necklace resembles the Missoni necklace due to the fabric stripes, but actually has more of a twist due to the three rows of multicolored beads.

Wear this ‘Multi Stripe Necklace’ with a sleeveless flowy black dress, black suede high-heel sandals, a tote in black and red to bring out the colors of the beads, black sunglasses, and bold red lipstick.  You can check out this funky necklace on for $48.

Arm Candy

In Accessories on March 24, 2011 at 12:11 PM

Ever since I was little, I’ve spent Spring break in Miami and Palm Beach, seeing friends and family, and of course getting some sun.  However, this year I’m doing something completely different: I’m going college visiting in Boston.  It’s crazy to think that this new chapter in my life is starting now, but at the same time it’s so exciting.  I’m headed to Boston today for the weekend, and while I’m there I’ll be giving you glimpses of Boston fashion.  Before I leave, I need to blog about a purse that is one of the “it” bags of the season.

Fluorescent clothing and accessories are everywhere.  From the racks in stores to the Monday style section of The New York Post, fluorescents are extremely popular for Spring: jeans, shoes, jackets, sunglasses, you name it.  About two years ago, I purchased a fluorescent patent-leather blue Rebecca Minkoff handbag that I was obsessed with, but I haven’t worn it in about a year because it seemed to be out: now’s my chance to wear it again.

The most popular fluorescent colors are pink, orange, yellow, and green.  These bright colors scream fun and glamour, and remind me of sweet and colorful candy: gum-balls in particular.  It’s time to get some new arm candy, and Furla‘s new ‘Candy S Bauletto‘ is a perfect option.

The ‘Candy S Bauletto‘ handbag is a great handbag to add to your collection.  The purse is large enough for all of your daily necessities -wallet, sunglasses, cellphone, makeup, etc- but isn’t too big to wear at night.  The handbag has a mod look, and will be the pop of color to any outfit that needs it.  There’s nothing like a great handbag to bring an outfit from drab to fab.

Wear this candy-like handbag with a floral sleeveless blouse that has a similar pink to the handbag but is combined with other colors like blue and green, blue skinny jeans, blue platform peep-toes, sparkly crystal hanging earrings, and a bright glossy pink lip.  Every girl needs to have that girly moment, and Spring is the perfect time of year to have one.

The ‘Candy S Bauletto‘ handbag is available on for $195.

“I Spy” At Henri Bendel’s

In Accessories on March 19, 2011 at 5:36 PM

On beautiful days like today, I love taking long walks that lead me to fashionable destinations.  I decided to walk down Fifth Avenue and play “I Spy” in a classic NYC department store, Henri Bendel.  The store, casually known as Bendel’s, was once full of the most luxurious clothes you could find.  More recently, the store has transformed itself to an accessory and beauty product store only.  At first, the transformation felt almost awkward, but now that it’s been over a year, it almost feels normal.

When entering Bendel’s, my face lit up with excitement due to the tables and tables of jewelry perfectly laid out on large tables.   The last time I was in Bendel’s (a few months ago) I was disappointed with the jewelry selection: not this time.  I spied color. spied glamour. And most importantly, I spied fashion forward. Each piece of jewelry was organized by color, jewelry type, and brand which was great for easy shopping.  Out of all of the tables, there were three that particularly grabbed my attention.

The first table of jewelry was covered in jewels in orange and purple: these colors seem to be popular for Spring.  On the orange and purple table were chunky purple lucite rings, gold, lucite, and orange hanging earrings, single gold chain necklaces with chunky orange and beige beads, white, gold, and silver cuffs, and my favorite, hand-dyed orange and purple stone necklaces.

The second table was full of gold chain necklaces with delicate charms: flowers, stones, multicolored crystal balls, animals, feathers, you name it.  Delicate necklaces with a pop of color, the charm, are great for outfits that are already loud, but still require an accessory.

The final table was the revival of the friendship bracelet.  Remember the days when friendship bracelets were in, but then went out?  Well, now they’re back in, and with the way they’re looking, they are here to stay.  Perfect for the girl who can’t get enough of color, these friendship bracelets come in every combination of colorful beads imaginable: combos of light colors, dark colors, and some with crystals.  The bracelets are great for Spring and Summer, and I would definitely consider buying one.

If you’re in NYC, take a trip over to Henri Bendel’s and browse/shop the amazing selection of jewelry.  If you’re not in the area, play “I Spy” on

Sunny Side Up

In Accessories on March 18, 2011 at 6:11 PM

What’s better than celebrating the official start of Spring break on a gorgeous summer-like day?  I don’t think it could get any better.  It felt amazing to walk around in light attire today: a short sleeve blue and white blouse, thin black leggings, black Tory Burch ballet flats, aviators, and my leather jacket stuffed in my chunky black purse instead of me wearing it.  It was also great to look out into Central Park and see the liveliness that you usually don’t see until Summer.

Sunglasses are an accessory that always make me feel extra fashionable.  Whether I’m wearing a dressy floral day-dress to a lunch, or wearing sweats to the coffee shop a few blocks away, sunglasses never fail to add a bit of glamour which makes them the best finishing touch.

Whenever Spring and Summer come around, I like to invest in a new pair of shades because I’m always wearing them.  In the colder months, we tend to stick to our classic dark black sunglasses, where in the summer, it’s fun to bring out shades in fun colors and patterns.  Ray-Ban, my favorite sunglass brand, recently came out with a cool pair of shades that are great for Spring and come Summer.

The ‘Ray-Ban Vagabond‘ two-toned watercolor looking shades come in a variety of colors, but the pink and brown combination is my favorite.  Perfect with your solid numbers, and the outfits that need an extra pop of color, these shades are a must.  The sunglasses have a retro look with its classic 1950’s cat-eye shape, yet still has a modern twist due to the colors.

On a day like today, it’s warm enough to wear a pair of jean shorts, but not warm enough to wear a sleeveless tank.  These sunglasses will look great with denim shorts, an oversized bronze/tan long sleeve thin sweater, a brown peep-toe cork wedge, a tan and dark brown purse, gold and pink bangles, and a gold watch.  For makeup, give yourself a bold lip with a dark pink or bronze lipstick.

The Vagabond shades are available on for $145: check them out.

Bohemian Rhapsody

In Accessories on March 9, 2011 at 5:56 PM

When thinking of ‘bohemian’, long and layered necklaces, flow-y skirts, and tribal patterns may come to mind; or maybe just Queen’s genius song, Bohemian Rhapsody.  ‘Boho-chic’ is considered to be a trend which is referred to, by some, as individual, romantic, and free-spirited.  The trend is followed, and somewhat created, by many celebs like Sienna Miller and the Olsen twins, and they quite frankly pull it off well.

I’m not exactly an all around ‘boho-chic’ type girl, but I do like taking some pieces that are incorporated in the trend, and combining them with my city-girl style.  Although I like looking at boho-chic clothes on the racks in stores and on my computer screen at home, I’m more about buying boho-chic accessories.

The boho/tribal trend is a great one to follow, especially come Spring.  The colors and patterns are refreshing, and the vibe that the trend gives off is simply cool.  Rj Graziano just came out with a great 15-piece set of ‘Wrapped Bangles‘ that are so bright and colorful that I want them on my wrist now.  I first found a like for Graziano’s jewelry when I came across some chic wooden bangles in Teen Vogue Magazine.

The bangles are full of such eclectic color that -as said by Bloomingdales– they look like treasures collected on far flung travels.  Not only do I love the colors, but I also love the bangles embellished with crystals, beads, and pearls in between the bangles covered in silk.  Wear these bangles with black leggings, black peep-toe wedges, a jean jacket, a forrest-green hobo, and a crystal headband laying on your forehead (like how Nicole Richie wears hers) to top off this boho-chic yet city-girl inspired look.

The ‘Wrapped Bangles’ are available for $55 on

Preppy Straw Canteen

In Accessories on March 8, 2011 at 7:06 PM

Marc by Marc Jacobs‘ Spring collection is colorful and full of stripes.  Although trends go in and out, stripes have stayed in, and are becoming a classic.  However, what I like even more than stripes is color, something that my closet just couldn’t live without.  To give the stripes in his collection some Marc Jacobs’ flavor, Jacobs added neon colors, giving the pattern the perfect twist.

Not only did Jacobs add neon colors to his clothing, but he also added them to his accessories. As I was browsing in one of my favorite department store’s, Barneys New York, I came across an adorable Marc by Marc Jacob’s bag that is great for Spring.  I was actually quite surprised to spot this adorable handbag at Barneys, considering it’s rare to find a handbag under $500 there.

Marc by Marc Jacobs recently came out with a ‘Preppy Straw Canteen‘ that is adorable, quirky, and cool.  I love this handbag because it’s not your typical everyday bag: the shape isn’t of a rectangle or square and the texture isn’t your same old patent leather.  Straw might not be your material of preference, but Marc Jacobs makes it hip: the neon blue leather trim gives it edge, while the gold toned hardware makes it a classic.  As you can see in the photo above, the strap is long; but don’t worry, because the strap is adjustable.   The handbag also comes in a different leather trim: neon yellow.

Wear this ‘Preppy Straw Canteen’ with blue jeans, a grey cardigan, blue platform pumps, and a blue and gold cocktail ring.  Instead of overdoing this look with lots of eyeshadow, put on a little blue eyeliner for a fresh look.  Tip: blue eyeliner looks especially good on people who have blue eyes.

The ‘Preppy Straw Canteen‘ is available on for $148.

As Seen On Hilary

In Accessories on March 3, 2011 at 12:59 PM

Hilary Duff is one of those celebrities who dresses in a simple yet stylish way. I see Duff as more of an everyday type girl, not dressing over the top, but still looking effortlessly chic. We first saw Duff starring in TV shows and movies on Disney Channel, but now she has moved onto other ventures like being a New York Times Best Selling Author of her book Elixir. I read Elixir, and it was quite good.  Those of you who like a good chick-flick will agree.

I recently came across a photo of Duff where she made a fashion statement: not with clothing, but with an accessory.  Above is a photo of Duff fashioning a signature black and white Alexander McQueen scarf (the pattern and color comes in an adorable flat shoe), what seems to be a black leather jacket, and a bold, chunky, statement-making earring.  That earring so happens to be by one of my favorite jewelry designers, Kendra Scott.

The Kendra Scott earring that Duff is wearing in-photo is called ‘Wren’, which as said on Scott’s website is a favorite of Duff’s.  The earring has a carved smooth metal frame, which holds a sleek green stone.  Not only can you purchase this earring in the green stone as Duff has, but the earring also comes in five other stone color options: turquoise, yellow, blue agate, salmon, and pale green chalcedony.

Each color is great, but the green one that Duff has is my favorite: the earring is simply fabulous.  Not only do I love the color of the stone, but I also love the fact that this is a hanging earring.  There’s something about an oversized earring that pulls an outfit together, and draws everyone’s attention on you.   Wear these earrings with a pair of skinny jeans, a nude boyfriend blazer, nude pumps, a nude/brown light scarf with some sort of pattern, a flower cocktail ring, and a green purse to tie in the color of the stone in the earrings.

The earrings are perfect for Spring, and are available on for $70.

We’re Marchin’ On

In Accessories on March 2, 2011 at 5:08 PM

We’re getting closer and closer to Spring! The fact that we’re already in March shows how much we’ve been marchin’ on, and I am so thrilled to be wearing lighter clothing: leathers instead of furs, cardigans instead of heavy sweaters, plus more. Each season, new trends develop, while others simply go out of style. However, some stay in like wearing crossbodys.

Crossbodys have noticeably been one of the handbags to own this year.   As it begins to get lighter outside during later hours, where the temperatures start to warm up to degrees in which we start seeing the lawns of Central Park and The Boat Pond to fill up , wearing a light colored yet basic colored bag is maybe not a must, but most definitely a want.

Not only do I like to wear light clothing, but I also like to carry light handbags, if possible. Crossbodys are perfect all season handbags, but especially for Spring since they don’t require you to carry them in your hand during your ‘Spring Fever” activities:  they simply lay across your body.  I know that I’m all about having my iced cappuccino in one hand with my blackberry in the other, and the ability to not worry about figuring out how to also carry my purse is a plus.

Rebecca Minkoff recently came out with a great crossbody for Spring 2011 called ‘Tart‘.  The handbag is in pebbled bronze-metallic leather, and is super chic for a cool Spring day.  Bronze is a great color because it’s basic enough to go with everything, yet it still has a little twist: metallics are always fun additions.  To give this purse some extra glam, the cross-body is punctuated with gold nail-head studs, and suspends from a serpentine chain strap.  The crossbody also comes in metallic green.
