Award season: glamour, entertainment, red carpets, A-List celebrities, shiny trophies, stunning dresses…the list of words that come to mind are quite endless. With the Golden Globes airing this evening, there is so much to look forward to. From the red carpet entrances and hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to the winning pictures leading to further Oscar predictions and more, this is an award show not to miss. While some like to throw big soirees of their own, I like to keep mine small with few friends and family over festive snacks and drinks: popcorn (with a variety of topping options, including cheddar and carmel powder from Sur la Table and truffle oil from Williams Sonoma), candy (chocolate Twizzlers and Crunch bars), and some peach bubbly (sparkling apple juice was my alternative). Think movie night gone a little more glam than usual, while still keeping it simple and stylish (disposable table cloths are not usually my thing, but in this instance it works, cute popcorn holders, and toppings on coasters).

The Emmys 2012: Best Dressed

In Award Show, Celebrities on September 24, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Amid 105 degree California weather, bright flashes, Chris Harrison asking questions, and lots and lots of dresses, Hollywood’s hautest kept their cool at last night’s 2012 Emmys Awards. My favorite part of the show was unquestionably the red carpet, and I was eagerly anticipating what these A-Listers were going to wear.

Above are my favorites: Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier,  Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad, and Julianne Moore in Christian Dior. I love the tangerine hue of Goodwin’s gown and her dewy-appropriate makeup. I’m captivated by the sparkly sequin embellishment of Vergara’s dress–the turquoise hue combined with the halter neckline and open back made for a sexy and glamorous look. Lastly, Moore’s dress is just the pop of sunshine that this red carpet needed–minus the scorching temperatures. There’s something classic and timeless about a long-sleeve and full-skirt silhouette, yet Moore’s version was nonetheless refreshing.

Which red carpet look is your favorite from the 2012 Emmys Awards?

Sydney’s Top 3 Oscar Red Carpet Looks

In Award Show on February 27, 2012 at 8:15 PM

Splashes of coral, sexy arm sleeves and strapless wonders are some of what was seen on last night’s red carpet at the 2012 Oscars.

I loved Michelle Williams in this bright Louis Vuitton coral (stopping all rumors–it’s not red) gown. Her pixie haircut, brooch, and delicate necklace made for an adorable look, while her clutch added just the right amount of color. Tina Fey went simple yet chic in Carolina Herrera, who was exclusive to her. Even though I would have loved to have seen Fey in some color, this gown was the perfect fit. Lastly, a red carpet cannot be complete without Jennifer Lopez who makes anything look sexy. Fashioning a beautifully embellished Zuhair Murad gown, with just the right amount of cutouts on her sleeves, she made the perfect ounce of statement.

Sydney’s Favorite Best Dressed Grammy’s Fashionistas

In Award Show on February 13, 2012 at 4:19 PM

Last night marked The 54th Grammy’s Awards, which not only recognized the talent of todays current music sensations, but those that are no longer with us as well, like Whitney Houston.

Before watching The Grammys at home, I was at some NYFW shows and interviewed some industry players about their favorite Whitney Memories–Andy Cohen, Duran Duran’s John Taylor, Selita Ebanks, Torey DeVitto, and Linda Fargo. Each memory was extremely touching.

My favorite looks on The Grammy’s red carpet were those who had dresses with sexy backs. Rihanna in Armani, Carrie Underwood in GomezGracia, and Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad are my top three favorites.

Each one of these women managed to look sexy and elegant with dresses that truly fit their personal style.

Which red carpet look was your favorite?

Vanilla Cream On The SAG Awards Red Carpet

In Award Show on January 30, 2012 at 4:03 PM

The SAG Awards seem to be a “rest” stop in between The Golden Globes and the Oscars for actor fashionistas. I always find that the red carpet looks at this show aren’t as glamorous and over-the-top as the rest: simple silhouettes, ordinary colors, and little sequin pizazz. Luckily, the Oscars and the Grammys still await.

Despite the lack of variation on the carpet, some stars looked sophisticated and elegant; wearing a creamy vanilla dress seemed to be the trend.

My favorites include Katrina Bowden in Amsale, Berenice Bejo in Ralph Lauren and Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka.

Accessorize Like A Golden Globes Fashionista

In Accessories, Award Show on January 16, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Angelina in Atelier Versace, Salma and Jessica Alba in Gucci, Charlize and Mina in Dior, Lea and Shailene in Marchesa, Jessica Biel in Ellie Saab, Claire in J. Mendel…the list of best dressed celebrities strutting down the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globes is larger and better than ever.

My favorite? Nominee, Zooey Deschanel, who fashioned an elegant yet edgy backless Prada black gown with emerald green glass pearl embellishment above the waistline and an extraordinarily chic ivory pearl embroidered collar. I also love her matching Prada emerald green glass pearl clutch, tuxedo nails (her take on a french mani), and chunky cocktail ring.

The dress is of course what we look at and judge first and foremost when these A-Listers walk down the red carpet, but what I find to be just as important is the accessories: earrings that dangle, crazy beautiful cocktail rings, and phenomenal clutches.

Below are my favorite Golden Globes inspired earrings, cocktail rings and clutches, all $270 and under, that will make you the most trendy and glamorous red carpet fashionista.

Bring out one of these pieces for your next party, and you’ll be sure to steal the spotlight.

1. Made Her Think $200, 2. Swarovski Crystal $88, 3. Miu Miu $185, 4. Frangos $112, 5. ASOS $15, 6. Isabel Marant $140, 7. BCBG $38, 8. ASOS $12, 9. Kenneth Jay Lane $190, 10. Yves Saint Laurent $275

1. Lauren Merkin $61, 2. Armani Exchange $80, 3. House of Harlow 1960 $199, 4. ASOS $63, 5. BCBG $148, 6. Moschino $160, 7. Lileauxshby $230, 8. Zara $20, 9. Monsoon $27, 10. Karen Millen $225

What My Oscar Fashion Favorites Wore

In Award Show, Celebrities on February 28, 2011 at 3:51 PM

Glamour, prestige, and success are three of the many words that describe The Academy Awards.  Each year, actors and actresses gather at the show to be recognized by The Academy for superb work in the film industry, honored with an Oscar.  ‘The King’s Speech’ unsurprisingly won Best Picture, although I did hope the win would have gone to The Social Network.  Colin Firth won for best actor in ‘The Kings Speech’, and Natalie Portman won for best actress in ‘Black Swan’.  Many other awards were distributed, but these are the three main ones that everyone seems to care about most.

The Hosts: We’ve got the extremes- the lack of a host at the Grammy’s, and now two hosts who I feel were equally bad at the Oscars.  It is clear that The Academy wanted to reach out to a younger audience by having James Franco and Anne Hathaway co-host the show, but I feel that the award show is such a television classic that there’s no need to make it “hipper”.  Franco didn’t seem like he wanted to be there, and Hathaway was somewhat immature, cheering (shouting) left and right.  Even though I wasn’t impressed by the hosts, Hathaway did look stunning in each and every outfit (the strapless burgundy beaded one was my favorite) except for that shiny blue dress that looked like a soda can.

The Red Carpet:  Although I wasn’t too fond of the award show itself, I was highly impressed with The Red Carpet.  No one really had a terrible fashion moment, and watching Tim Gunn host on ABC was great.  I loved so many of the dresses worn on the accomplished female attendees, but there were four women’s dresses which truly grabbed my attention.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Paltrow’s look was by far my favorite of the night.  Looking ever-so-chic in this metallic Calvin Klein Collection frock, Paltrow’s body looked amazing.  The dress emphasized her long blonde locks and sun-kissed skin.  What topped this look off for me was the amazing Louis Vuitton high jewelry earrings, ring, and broach, giving the dress a colorful and glamorous quality.

Mila Kunis: Looking like a beautiful goddess, Kunis fashioned a sweet lavender lace Ellie Saab Haute Couture gown.  The color looked impeccable on her, and the ribbon waist and peek-a-boo detailing are what made this dress look effortlessly chic.  Plus, the Neil Lane diamond earrings looked miraculous as well.

Amy Adams: Glittering like a sapphire, Adams looked old Holly-Wood glam in this L’Wren Scott cap-sleeved gown.  The dress fit Adams like a glove, showing off her figure in a sexy yet classy way.  Although her Cartier emerald and diamond jewels are beautiful, they’re not the perfect match for me.  However, Adams still made my best dressed list.

Anne Hathaway: The Oscar host looked beautifully classic in this red vintage Valentino Haute Couture taffeta gown with floral applique train.  I loved how Hathaway’s hair was styled, and her bold scarlet lips complimented the dress perfectly.  To top of the look, Hathaway shined in Tiffany & Co. diamonds.

Grammy High Notes

In Award Show on February 14, 2011 at 3:39 PM

It is a beautiful day in NYC which is perfect for going to my next fashion show at Lincoln Center: Pamella Roland.  In the midst of Fashion Week, we all took a pause to watch our favorite singers at the 53rd Annual Grammy’s last night perform, accept awards, and most importantly see what everyone was wearing.

I literally watched the Grammys, and Grammy-related TV, from 6:00pm-11:30pm.  It was pretty intense, but my mini Grammy party at home -full of different cheese, fruits, and bread platters- kept me into it.  The Grammy’s is always filled with surprises, most recently due to Lady Gaga, who did not disappoint last night.  Gaga arrived on the Red Carpet a bit differently than the other stars…she arrived in an egg, and didn’t come out until performing in which she and her dancers fashioned yellow outfits, which seemed to represent the yoke of an egg: strange, but we’ve got to hand it to her – she is creative.

Despite Gaga’s strange entrance, some other ladies wowed on the red carpet.  On my post next to this one, you can see pictures of my favorite looks from the show.  In order of the photos, here’s what everyone wore: Jennifer Hudson in Versace, Selena Gomez in J. Mendel, Jennifer Lopez in Emilio Pucci, Kim Kardashian in Kaufman Franco, Miley Cyrus in Roberto Cavalli, Lea Michele in Emilio Pucci, and Ciara in Emilio Pucci: Pucci seems to be the hot designer of the night.

All of the ladies I just mentioned looked amazing, all looking age appropriate, stylish, bright, and star-quality.  I don’t like to criticize, but there’s one star whose outfit really made my “out” list: Nicki Minaj, who looked like an actual animal.  Fashioning Givenchy, I don’t think this was a good Red Carpet moment.  I understand when stars are creative and eccentric, but this look did not work for me, including the sky-high hair.  What did work for me though was her lipstick: the pink looks gorgeous and really brought out her eyes.

The Red Carpet Looks At The Golden Globes

In Award Show on January 17, 2011 at 9:39 AM

Last night was the ideal Sunday for the sports and the fashion obsessed.  First the Jets won against the Patriots (an unbelievable game), and are now heading to my family’s hometown Pittsburgh, PA: who I’ll be routing for during the Jets vs the Steelers game is a question that I can’t answer just yet.  After a big win for the Jets-obsessed, the fashion lovers got their night of fun when The 78th Annual Golden Globes came on, the night where we get to see our favorite celebs dressed up -mostly- to perfection.

What a show The Golden Globes was last night!  Where do I begin?  I loved everything from the red carpet looks, the mini glimpses and nomination of my not-so secret crush Jake Gyllenhaal, and the constant wins of one of my favorite movies, The Social Network.  It was an overall great show, but what excited me the most was what the actresses were wearing.

Celebs dazzled on the red carpet in mainly either tight-fitting or colorful sequin gowns: some puffy while others perfectly strait.  As you can see, I posted photos of my favorite looks on the red carpet.  Here’s the rundown of what the celebs -that I posted- wore.  Angelina Jolie glittered in a to-die-for Atelier Versace gown, Jennifer Lopez looked like she came right out of a beautiful winter wonderland in Zuhair Murad, Anne Hathaway looked incredibly chic in an amber Armani Prive gown embroidered with Swarovski crystals, Olivia Wilde had a girly moment in Marchesa, Claire Danes looked effortlessly chic in a custom Calvin Klein, Sandra Bullock sparkled in Jenny Packham, Emma Stone looked cute and peachy in Calvin Klein, and Eva Longoria looked striking in Zac Posen.

All of the women I just mention looked gorgeous, and each had their own look.  Award Shows are one of my favorite parts of this time of year.  A comfy outfit, a warm bowl of soup, and The Golden Globes was a satisfying Sunday night for me.  As its said, winning a Golden Globe is the first step to winning an Oscar, so it looks like the Oscars will be a good night for The Social Network.  Get ready for a fashion coverage of the Oscars on February 27th, because the red carpet looks are going to be even more glamorous than The Golden Globes (if that is possible).  Plus, Love and Other Drugs star Anne Hathaway will be hosting it. Another great award show is just a little over a month away… Who do you think looked best at The Golden Globes? Vote!
