Could it be any colder outside? Although it’s almost unimaginable, it honestly could be. But that doesn’t mean that wearing a pair of fuzzy sweatpants and sipping on hot chocolate with toasted marshmallows while indulging in Fifty Shades of Grey or Sex and the City re-runs in bed doesn’t sound like the perfect option. However, there’s still work, school, traveling, parties, and other life responsibilities that we all have to attend to. Therefore, we still have to get dressed and keep it chic despite these cold temperatures, so get inspired by some cute pieces (accessories, shoes, clothing, beauty products–whatever it may be) that will make you want to get dressed up this chilly season.

Trending Tuesday With Holidays In Mind

In Accessories, Beauty on November 20, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Rag & Bone

At this time of year, there are always new pieces, collaborations, and previews of up and coming collections in the works. Therefore, I’m quite obsessed with a number of things at the moment, starting off with Rag & Bone’s “Pilot” bag. It might be cold outside, but who said you have to get rid of warm weather memories, including nature’s prettiest flowers. This old-school print was inspired by a 19th century Russian munisak, a traditional type of overcoat. This durable “It” bag is the perfect gift for the holidays (it’s not going to be in stores until December, but it’s already available to pre-order online), or you could just snatch it for yourself.

Aldo Spring ’13

Aldo knows what us girls are looking for…and on a budget. For the upcoming spring season, Aldo’s studded flats, floral print heels, lucite-injected pumps, and crystal-studded kicks are getting me super excited. Not only will you become head-over-heels for the brand’s shoes, but you might also have a nostalgic moment with ’90s heart-shaped sunnies and cuff-clutches.

Gwyneth Paltrow for Butter London

Us gals love a good old nail combo–especially one that has to do with Gwyneth Paltrow. It makes perfect sense that she collaborated with Butter London for her first-ever line of nail polish. Gwyneth’s signature lifestyle site, Goop, joined forces with one of my favorite nail polish brands to create three darling holiday-ready shades that I can’t wait to get my nails in: Hampstead Heath, Bread & Butter Pudding, and Abso-bloody-lutely. Stocking stuffers? You betcha!

Tom Ford Holiday

If I could pull off bright red lipstick, Tom Ford’s beautiful new Jasmin Rouge Lip Color Collection would be at the top of my list. I met Tom Ford (one of my designer crushes–I still gasp at the thought) during the launch of his makeup collection last fall, and it keeps getting better and better.

What items/collections/collaborations are winning your attention right now? I’d love to know.

POP! Nars X Andy Warhol

In Beauty on November 9, 2012 at 10:40 AM

Iconic artist Andy Warhol’s fame lasted way longer than 15 minutes. Today, he’s the inspiration behind an incredibly chic and colorful limited makeup collection by Nars. The line coincides with a new Warhol exhibit at the Met in NYC (parfait!), which explores the pop artist’s influence on other artists

The range is offered as two separate collections-one a Sephora exclusive, which is influenced by Pop Art, and the other for department stores, which has a more downtown and Factory vibe. The packaging features Warhol quotes and muses like Debbie Harry, Candy Darling and Edie Sedgwick.

Some of the standouts that I’m loving are the Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret ($55), which features five new lip glosses in a soup can covered in Warhol’s lip print and The Debbie Harry Cheek and Eye Palette ($65). Let’s not forget The Photo Booth mini nail polish set ($35), which is the ultimate holiday present.

So spend one of these chilly afternoons at the Met, indulging in what I hear is a fabulous exhibit (I’m going next week), and pick up one of the limited pieces of makeup at Sephora as a souvenir afterwards. There’s nothing like a little treat, non?

BaubleBar + Essie: The Ultimate Collaboration

In Accessories, Beauty on November 8, 2012 at 2:56 PM

This is definitely my favorite BaubleBar collaboration yet!

For one, it’s a great gift for the holidays, and additionally, it’s the best way to wear Essie’s winter trend collection, which I’m completely head-over-heels for (just ordered half of the collection off of while matching the hues to chic wrist-wear.

So here’s how it works. You get to design your own $50 set of bracelets (a total of 3). Once you choose your polish shade and its coordinated bangle, you get to pick two additional bangles (there are a crazy amount of options) to form the set. Also, included is a sleek carrying case filled with your set and polish.

Probably the coolest part of this collection is BaubleBar+Essie’s campaign, which is all about personal style. The brands used real women to style the shoot and put their own personal spin on it.

The femmes: Jenn Falik (Style & Beauty Expert), Lori Bergamotto (Contributing Style Editor at Lucky Magazine), Michelle Smith (Designer for Milly), Alyssa Hertzig (Beauty Director at Shape), Laura Eurdolian (blogger), and Christin Schindewolf & Grace Atwood (BaubleBar’s social media team).

Lastly, show BaubleBar how you styled your collection! Instagram BaubleBar your bracelet/nail polish combos using hashtag #showusyoursparkle. The instagrams will be pinned to Baublebar’s pinboards, and at the end of the month, they will pick their six favorites, which will be featured on BaubleBar + Essie’s Facebook pages.

RGB Cosmetics

Duality Cosmetics

The New Black

Sephora by OPI

Think you have your tips covered for the season?

Think again Style Solutions readers, because a few of my favorite brands went ahead and launched their latest collections that are, of course, stunning. Looks like we might have to open up our wallets again for some metallic, shimmer, glitter, and shine.

I’m loving RGB’s gold-flecked gunmetal hue, Julep’s multiple shades of green, Duality’s polishes named after Hollywood’s leading ladies (how about Dakota? Fanning, naturally), quite frankly any polish from The New Black’s Digital Underground collection, and Sephora by OPI’s copper topcoat that proves that there’s a sparkle to fit your every outfit whim.

Chances are, these babies will make quite the come back this holiday season.

With Courage, Love, and Pink

October is the epitome of pumpkin spiced lattes, leather jackets, booties, autumn leaves, apple pies, and pink.

It also marks Breast Cancer Awareness month, so add some ounces of pink to your wardrobe to honor and support the cause. Be it a standout beauty set, a chunky cocktail ring, a graphic tee, or a motorcycle jacket, all of the items above benefit BCA and are super chic.

As fashion and philanthropy continues to merge, I love and appreciate that designers and brands are launching items that speak to women ranging from the girly girl to the accessory lover (definitely me) and the beauty junkie.

So think pink this month, and don’t feel too guilty about splurging a little, because shopping for a cause does make a difference.

Topshop’s latest and most glittery collab is with London designer Louise Gray. She is one of the most vibrant and innovative designers to grace the London fashion scene, making her collaboration with Topshop an organic and most certainly sparkly fit. I’ve always loved sequins, so this was exciting news to me. Think bold, bright and girly sequin galore, from party dresses, blouses, and tees to shimmering glitter pots, fluoro eye-palettes, and much more. I wouldn’t necessarily wear sequins during the day, but they are great for night. It’s important to wear them in moderation–one touch (a shirt, a jacket, etc) per outfit is just enough.

Above are my favorites from the Louise Gray for Topshop collection. What’s catching your eye?

Nailing It The Fall Way

In Beauty on August 18, 2012 at 11:59 AM

In just a few weeks, say goodbye to those bright, neon and darling pastel nail polish hues, and welcome the newest collections debuting for fall! I have to say, I’m very impressed by the collections this season. There’s everything from metallics and glitter-infused polishes to solid lacquers in the season’s hottest colors, like green, burgundy, and blue. There are 5 collections in particular that have nailed their way right to the beauty junkie portion of my heart.

1. Essie Stylenomics ($8)These classic fall hues are inspired by the economy. Names like “Recessionista”, “Stylenomics” and “Skirting the Issue” prove it. My fave? The deep, forrest green. Check out the collection on in September.

2. OPI Germany ($8.50): This fall, OPI took inspiration from Berlin Fashion Week. The 12-polish collection embraces neutrals, jewel tones, and mustard and ketchup hues reminiscent of those good old fashioned pretzels. Delish! These lacquers are available only in salons.

3. butter LONDON Fall/Winter 2012 ($14) You can always count on butter London for darling, shimmering hues. Taking inspiration from the texture on the fall runways, shop metallics and modern earth tones for trendy fingertips. Available at

4. Zoya 2012 NYFW Designer Collection ($8): This collection was inspired by everything New York Fashion Week. Two of the shades are based off of colors Zoya did for Peter Som’s and Mohapatra’s shows. Strut! Available at

5. MAC Styleseeker Collection ($16): Influenced by the global wanderer, these colors definitely portray adventure, curiosity, and glam–I love the purple and orange hues. Although double the price of the collections above, I think it’s reasonable to splurge on one nail polish a season. Available at

An American Girl In Paris

In Beauty, Food, On Location on August 5, 2012 at 12:02 PM

Paris has been so much fun. 10 days here, and not a dull moment. Everything from the Gerhard Richter exhibit that I saw this morning, the Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibit and Galleries Lafayette and Printemps runs to constant coffee shop stops, an insane amount of Laduree and Fauchon macaroons and the constant switch between high heels and flats.

Above are some snapshots that captured the last few days. The first photo is a perfume chandelier from the Lancome spa, where I enjoyed the most incredible facial I’ve ever had: rooms with multicolored lights, a massage portion, soothing creams, and overall relaxation. The next is of a pair of H&M shoes that I purchased when my feet were absolutely killing. The third is of the Essie nail polish bar at Printemps, and following is a view of the Eiffel Tower, and a delicious rhubarb and apple crumble with a scoop of “biscuit” ice-cream, which was the perfect replacement to “the cherry on top.”

Back to NYC tomorrow. Although I love Paris very, very much, there’s no place like home, and a few busy days in the city before a weekend in LA awaits.

Pop Goes My Heart

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing, Shoes on July 21, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Pop art has always had a place in my heart.

My mother’s side of the family is from Pittsburgh, PA, the home of Andy Warhol, so I’ve spent time at his museum, indulging in his bright colors, interpretations of iconic people, and overall unique style. I also adore the work of Roy Lichtenstein, another pop art icon.

This era of art seems to be making a mark on the fashion trends, a “come back”, thanks to the likes of Phillip Lim, Lulu Guinness, and more. Even less expensive brands like Topshop and ASOS have taken a stab at the coolness, too.

The colors, abstract images, designs, and old-school yet super cool vibe makes me love all of the pop art-inspired fashion galore. From iPhone cases and kitsch soaps to cosmetic cases, sweaters (think fall), glittery nail polish, bold clutches and then some, the options are endless.

So, indulge in my favorites below.

From left to right: Andy Warhol Brooch $115, 3.1 Phillip Lim T-shirt $220, Lulu Guinness Clutch $390, Topshop Fresh Soap $10, ASOS Necklace $8, 3.1 Phillip Lim PVC and Leather Pouch $375, Topshop Scrub Soap $10, Stella McCartney Sandals $364, Campbell’s Soup Earrings $8, Topshop  Sweater $76, Marc Jacobs Perfume $88, Bond No. 9 Perfume $180, Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish $20, iPhone Case $14

Essie’s Flagship Salon

In Beauty on June 26, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Mani/pedi enthusiasts, get ready to splurge a little, because Essie has opened its first flagship nail salon on the Upper East Side–today.

The mod decor was done by Peter Millard–a white, sleek aesthetic that screams squeaky clean, the ultimate backdrop for all of the [approximately 300] Essie nail polish bottles, perfectly placed on the wall.

There is one additional pop of color, however, via the deep purple/pink hued leather love seats reminiscent of popular Essie shades, such as Bahama Mama, where clients get their nails done.

Essie Weingarten founded the Wicked brand in 1981, and L’Oréal later purchased it. The brand is now carried in over 100,000 salons in the US, so this flagship is another one of Weingarten’s major accomplishments. The salon (Samuel Shriqui; 35 East 65th street (between Park and Madison avenues)) is even offering Weingarten’s signature manicure for those who request, as she’s been going to this salon for over 20 years.

So although these mani/pedis don’t fall into your usual $8 charge (manicures start at $32 and pedicures start at $65), treat yourself to the land of Essie, and dip your toes into her world of colors.

For those who need some bottles a little closer to home, below are my favorite Essie nail polishes of the season.

Manicure Season

In Beauty on June 19, 2012 at 12:43 AM

At a point in time, wearing light pink (think Essie’s Ballet Slipper) and bright red nail polish were the only viable options. They were classic go-to colors that kept the manicure process quite simple. Now, the nail polish options are endless: pastels, neons, metallics, beaded nails, gel nails, glitter polish, stick ons, you name it. Our nails are yet another reflection of our personal style, so let summer be the time to explore your mani/pedi options.

Try that bold hue from Deborah Lippman or those plaid stick-ons from Sally Hansen. Like a new food, you never know what you like until you try it.

To gather inspiration and ideas, take note from the spring/summer runway trends.

Sydney’s Summer Beauty Essentials

In Beauty on June 9, 2012 at 9:40 AM

My beauty routine tends to shift every season. During the summer, I look for products that are lightweight but last in the midst of humid temperatures and summer activities like swimming.

Eyes: I just learned how to successfully apply top liner. I like a thin line during the day, and sometimes a thicker one at night. It’s important to find a liner that you’re comfortable with because it’s very easy to mess up! I also like to stick to lighter eyeshadow hues, but then I go all out with my lashes with CoverGirl’s 24HR last blast.

Face: I love the look of a golden, summer glow. I was introduced to the two Benefit products above, and they truly have taken my skin to the next level. The Cha Cha tint is a blush stain and the sun beam is a highlighter (the best sun-kiss). These liquid based products give my face a dewy look and definitely last longer than my powder-based products.

Scent: I think it’s important to switch up your perfume every season. A perfume that you wear in the winter is most likely too strong and heavy for summer. I tend to go for a sweet perfume in the winter and a floral scent in the summer, something that’s fresh, sexy, and light. I’m currently wearing Gucci’s Glamours Magnolia and absolutely love it.

Sydney’s Hair Crisis Solution

In Beauty on May 31, 2012 at 12:18 AM

On Memorial Day weekend, I had what I would call a hair crisis.

The water in my Hamptons home is classified as well water, which can apparently damage your hair. I’ve never had a problem for the 7 years we’ve owned this home, yet miraculously the water chose to destroy my hair on one of the busiest weekends of the season--joy. My hair was so thick. It was as if I stuck my head into a tub of oil, cement, or sticky glue. I could put my hair up in a bun without a ponytail. And, I couldn’t put a brush, yet alone my own two hands, through it. It was absolutely awful.

I spent 2 hours in the top hair salon in the Hamptons on Saturday morning while my family was walking around town and going to the beach, and even with 5 professionals working on my hair and 3 conditioning treatments later, nothing worked. I decided to take matters into my own hands–the internet. I found these steps and followed them late Saturday night. With much surprise, it actually worked! From baby shampoo, 2 soakings of baking powder and apple cider vinegar to 2 shampoo and conditioner rinses, my hair finally went back to normal. It took approximately 1 hour, 2 extra sets of hands, some background music, and a comfy bathrobe when hopping in and out of the shower.

Above are some snapshots of my hair 911. If you’re suffering from well water or product build up, follow the article–it’s the ultimate style solution.

Until my Hamptons coverage begins, indulge in my Friday Favorites: a classic Sam Edelman sandal with a twist, bright Essie nail polish hues (Lights is my favorite) for colorful fingernails and toenails, a Theodora & Callum scarf to keep warm while traveling, a bold Kate Spade hoop earring for a pop of color, Velvet Eyewear cat eye sunnies, and Trina Turk for Banana Republic ensembles (coming soon!) for just being girly, summery, and cool.

Sydney Attends Target’s Fall Preview

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing on May 10, 2012 at 12:02 AM

While you’re thinking about what to wear on this spring Thursday, fashion gurus and those that spread the news are thinking about what you’ll be wearing next season. On Tuesday evening, Target previewed its exclusive fall 2012 men’s, women’s and kids’ apparel and accessories collections at NYC’s tres chic Hudson Bar. Brands including C9 by Champion, Converse One Star, Liz Lange, Merona and Mossimo Supply CO. along with Target’s beauty brands, including JK Jemma Kidd and Umberto Beverly Hills, were beautifully displayed in Philippe Starck’s surreal-designed bar. Although summer hasn’t officially begun, it’s never too soon for a sneak peek into the future.

Key trends spotted throughout the collections include an eclectic mix of unique color combos, print and pattern pairings, subtle details, unexpected textures, and chunky jewelry. This fall preview emphasizes that you don’t need to spend tons of money to look good; you can shop affordable stores like Target and follow trends while not breaking the bank.

So start making some room in your closets, because the collections will begin to be available in July.

This weekend was spent all around the city, busy from morning until night. Yesterday was one of those cool, enjoyable days where I could just walk and walk for hours. It helped that New Yorkers were a bit crazy on margaritas for Cinco de Mayo, and even stores paid tribute to the celebration. I was in many neighborhoods, from the Upper East Side and Union Square to Soho and the West Village. Beautiful weather makes for superb shopping, and some of my purchases will be featured in upcoming outfit posts. Until then, above are some of my favorite weekend snapshots.

My attempt to spending a low-key Saturday simply did not work. I was up early in the morning, out and about all day. I first spent some time on the UES, getting a new iPhone at the Apple store and a quick bite to eat at Bottega del Vino. I then ran some errands along Fifth Avenue before meeting a friend for lunch at Mercer Kitchen in Soho. Although Soho has a lot of the same stores as on the UES (like Intermix and Sephora), the locations are designed to look downtown-cool, a more spacious and edgy shopping environment. Monday Cravings

In Beauty, Food, Shoes on April 9, 2012 at 12:20 AM

passover macaroons

There’s nothing like a Monday after an extended holiday weekend. For one it makes the start of the week even busier than usual, and it also makes a week without an extra day off feel longer!

However, I’m heading to Las Vegas later in the week, so I have something to look forward to…but there is so much to do before then! I’ve already been brainstorming on what to bring, pieces that are sexy and full of colors, cutouts and embellishments.

Until then, I am craving these three items: Passover macaroons with chocolate drizzle, limited-editon Aldo colour block sandals, and Eres nail lacquers.

Macaroons are a delicious and easy dessert to make for the holiday. It’s fun to experiment with flavors, like raspberry, chocolate, and salted caramel, each one fulfilling a particular tastebud.

aldo eakins colour block sandals

These Aldo sandals scream Vegas with the black fringe, patch worked textures and pops of color. With a sexy straight leg pant and sequin blouse, a tuxedo short, or a tight dress, these shoes are classic while still funky and cool.

eres nail lacquers

I love a good nail polish, so I was very happy to hear that ultra-glam bathing suit company Eres came out with these nail lacquers. I love the juicy fruity hues and look forward to trying them out on both my fingernails and toenails–orange first! Talk about nailing it!

PS: I found this recipe for peep s’mores– definitely have to indulge after Passover!

2 Of My Favorite Trends

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing on March 1, 2012 at 12:46 AM

1. J.Crew $298, 2. Nine West $79, 3. Rodrigo Otazu $220, 4. Tasha $38, 5. Republic $40, 6. Forever 21 $5, 7. Marni $170, 8. Walls Fashion $78, 9. ASOS $13, 10. TOMS $54, 11. ASOS $64

1. Butter $14, 2. Essie $8, 3. OPI $9, 4. Deborah Lippmann $18, 5. NARS $18, 6. Dior $23, 7. Chanel

Two of my favorite trends right now are powerful florals and bright nails. Despite the fact that I’m back to wearing some of my warmer attire this week (thank you mr. groundhog), I cannot help but be addicted to spring’s hautest trends and the bright colors that bring a drab rainy day to one that is fun and fab.

If you’re still wearing your fur vest, umbrella, and rain boots, just think spring!

Florals are far from boring this year. They are colorful, charming, glamorous and loud without being tacky. The last time we saw florals become a trend this big was back in the 90’s. This time around, designers have updated the trend with straight leg pants, envelope clutches, fun frocks, cool collars, sexy shoes, belts and more. Once it’s officially spring, a trip to the Botanical Gardens might not be such a bad idea!

Let’s not forget those bright nails. Spring is all about bold neons or delicate yet fierce pastels–sweet pistachio, juicy tangerine, hues of blue, and more.  I love to switch off between neons and pastels. I think that pastels are better for work days and neons are better for weekends and play.

What do you think of these trends?

The Beauty Products That Make Up My Obsession

In Beauty on January 28, 2012 at 12:01 AM

Dior, $60

Revlon, $8

Vincent Longo, $25

Maybelline, $8

I’m having a total makeup obsession. As spring clothes, shoes and accessories are making their way to websites and stores, so is makeup. I’m loving the pastel and neon phenomenon; the perfect pallets to switch to and from, depending on your ideal look. Maybe it’s pastels for daytime and neons for night? Or a combination of both at once for a hard yet soft effect? There’s no right answer.

Not only do I love makeup made by more expensive brands like Chanel and M.A.C, but I’m also addicted to products made by drugstore brands like Revlon and Maybelline. It’s best to use drugstore brands for products you use the most such as mascara because it’s most cost effective.

Above is my [favorite] current mix of high and low beauty products that make up my obsession.

Pastel Guide

In Accessories, Beauty, Clothing, Shoes on January 9, 2012 at 8:32 AM

If starting a whole new section in my wardrobe took about the same amount of time as creating a virtual wardrobe on the internet, I’d first rush to pastels. The trend is quickly making its way to the fashioniverse, becoming more and more apparent in editorials, department store windows, and so on. My love for pastels grew when browsing Barneys and Bergdorfs over the weekend.

Pastels are said to be the new neon come Spring (although I’ll never give neons up). Pastels definitely scream “girly” to me; I don’t know if it’s the colors themselves or the fact that many women in Palm Beach over Easter tend to wear anything and everything pastel. Probably a combination of both.

Pastels can be worn beautifully if fashioned the right way. I would not wear more than two pastels in the same outfit, but I would mix them with your edgier pieces to create a soft and hard play on the eyes. Below are my favorite pastels that can easily be mixed and matched with basic pieces that you most likely already own.

J Brand jeans, Acne sweater, Dior eyeshadow, Dior lipgloss, Dior nail polish, Equipment blouse, Bobbi Brown eyeshadow, Topman socks

Dannijo bangles, ASOS earrings, DSW flats, Steve Madden platforms, ASOS belt, ASOS handbag, Amomuito earrings, Modcloth wedges

Sydney Interviews Bond No. 9 Founder, Laurice Rahme (part II)

In Beauty, Interview/Personal Appearance on January 5, 2012 at 7:03 AM

This is part II of my interview with Bond No. 9 founder and creator, Laurice Rahme. She reveals what inspired her fragrances to be named after New York neighborhoods (truly touching) and some new projects in 2012, just to name a few. A big thanks to Laurice, and Style Solutions will continue to follow her success!

S: What’s the 411 on that extremely cool Bond No. 9 car?

L: The Bond car is a London taxi and is a humorous and ironic spin on the name of the company Bond No. 9. When we first started, and still to this day, people assumed our name was inspired by the famed Bond Street in London. We thought why not, what a great street to be associated with! Thus came about the idea of the Bond taxi. It is a celebration of the name Bond Street: an amused nod across the Atlantic, an amazing icon for us and, of course, extremely cool!

S: What’s the genesis of your fragrances being named locations?

L: Our offices and flagship boutique are located at 9 Bond Street in Noho. Being quite far downtown, you can imagine how after 9/11 we all who live and/or work downtown were devastated and deeply saddened. We were so close to site that we could smell the rubber and debris smoldering for weeks. One day I knew I had to make New York smell good again! So the concept of Bond No. 9 and celebrating each and every neighborhood with all its beauty and special character in the most amazingly smelling way was born.

S: I love your Sag Harbor store that you opened last summer. How did it go?

L: We love our Sag Harbor store! What a great way to celebrate New York life and pay homage to one of the most charming sea side towns in the state. There will be very exciting news around Sag Harbor at the beginning of summer 2012!

S: What’s next?

L: Like New York City, Bond No. 9 never rests. We are thrilled to be working on amazing fragrances for 2012 – for the Bond No. 9 Collection as well as for our latest brand, I LOVE NEW YORK by Bond No. 9. The new fragrances will yet again celebrate neighborhoods (for Bond No. 9 Collection) and the sentiment of the Empire State (ILNY by Bond No. 9) in a whole new way.

Sydney Interviews Bond No. 9 Founder, Laurice Rahme

In Beauty, Interview/Personal Appearance on January 4, 2012 at 7:35 AM

Founder and creator of Bond No. 9, Laurice Rahme knows scents that appeal to every woman. From her inspiring career and notable scents and packaging to the backstory of the Bond No. 9 car, which can be spotted around NYC, Laurice graces Style Solutions with her story. Read on darlings, this is part I.

S: Let’s start from the beginning. Why fragrances?

L: Originally I studied art history in Paris and worked for a well-known antique dealer. After a few years, my passion for beauty and art took me into the heart of the beauty industry: to L’Oreal and from there into the world of perfumes, working with some of the greatest names in the fragrance universe. I came to the US almost 30 years ago with the famous perfume creator, Annick Goutal, to introduce her brand and creations to the US market. The time with Annick and what I have learned from her remain one of my strongest sources of inspiration.

S: Speaking of inspiration, how do you develop scents that always seem to be fresh and new?

L: I get inspired every day by life in NYC and its incredible energy; it is always fresh and new. All of us who live here feel that constant renewing fast-paced forward-motion that sparks creativity everywhere.

S: I can’t decide what I love more, your scent or your packaging.

L: As with everything we do at Bond No. 9, our packaging is truly inspired by the neighborhoods of NY. Each neighborhood has its own character, beauty, and idiosyncrasies; our packaging as well as our fragrances celebrate this uniqueness.

S: Tell me about your amazing sample program!

L: We have an extensive sample program with our award-winning “bon bons”: sample vials that are reminiscent of French candies, hand-wrapped in chic, metallic wrappers in the signature color of each fragrance. To us, sampling is an intimate gesture and our customers absolutely love it.

S: I know I do! Which perfume does the best?

L: It really varies by the season. Our most recent launch, New York Amber, a perfume based on the precious and ancient ingredients of Amber and Musk, is very coveted by our customer, as is our Bond No. 9 Signature Perfume. Other sought after scents include Scent of Peace and Madison Square Park.

S: And your favorite?

L: I love them all, but right now my favorite is the one I am currently working on!

Stay tuned for part II tomorrow!

2012 Trends Start Now

In Accessories, Beauty on January 3, 2012 at 5:12 PM

1. Vivienne Westwood ($63), 2. Marni ($175), 3. Dorothy Perkins ($8), 4. Kenneth Jay Lane ($105)

It is absolutely freezing outside! It’s crazy how just yesterday I was in bright and light clothes, open-toe shoes and a fedora, where now I am back to my wintery attire, which is needed now more than ever. Heavy winter coats, thick scarves, cashmere gloves, oversized sunglasses to block the wind, and warm, toasty boots. That’s January in New York City for you.

1. Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss ($23), Bobbi Brown lipstick ($23)

With a new year comes new trends, and boy are there many. From haute hues, wow wedges, stripe daytime frocks and bright bags to higher than imaginable shoes, the list goes on, and on.

Two of my favorite trends that you can start following now are brooches and bright neon lips.

Brooches. Seen on the runway all of last season, they are back for full-on fashioning this year. Some cheap and others expensive, they are easy to find and are the perfect accessory for adding some glamour, fun, and embellishment to any dress. You can even add them to simple totes for a bit of pizzaz. Above are my favorite brooches, which all have different looks: edgy with Westwood, modern abstract with Marni, glamorous with Perkins, and charming with Lane.

Neon Lips. You can’t go wrong, especially with Bobbi Brown’s fabulous selection. The combination of a nude and rather natural face with a bold pop of bright lip color will give you that electrifying look. The pink? Classic. The orange? Super chic. And the purple? So for me. The colors are definitely for spring, but don’t shy away from trying them now to give your all-black looks some color. And, they are perfect for resort.

Time for a warm cup of tea, some tasty munchies, and an oversized sweatshirt for watching The Bachelor.

What are you doing to keep warm?

Dress: Kitson, Shoes: Jack Rogers, Bag: Louis Vuitton: Bangles: J.Crew, Shades: Chanel, Earrings: Amrita Singh

I cannot believe that my Palm Beach vacation is coming to an end. I’ve been here for exactly a week, yet it feels like I’ve been here for just a few days.

The saying is true, time goes by when you’re having fun. Although I’m leaving this evening, I’ll leave with a few new items in my closet, some Palm Beach color, and fun memories of being with my friends and family.

I spent the majority of yesterday by the pool and beach at my club. At one point I was floating on my back in the middle of the pool with the sun setting in beautiful colors. It was the first time during this vacation that I took a moment to just “stop”, appreciate the warm weather and calmness before reality starts tomorrow.

There are two beauty products that have perfected my Palm Beach color during my time here: Charlotte Ronson’s, “A Summer Kiss” face and body glow, ($18) and Benefit’s, “Watt’s Up!” ($30).

Ronson’s product gives your face and body a beachy sun-kissed look without turning orange while Benefit’s product gives you a champagne glow and highlights your features: nose, cheekbones, and forehead.

They are two of my favorite products in the industry and complement each other nicely (must-haves).

Time to put on some of that makeup and get to the beach before going back to my velvet Stubbs & Woottens, Aqua [faux] fur, and Zara blouse and scarf; cold NYC awaits.

It might not be Palm Beach, but it sure is home.

See you back in the Big Apple!

‘Tis The Season To Be Glittery

In Beauty, Holiday on December 4, 2011 at 3:44 PM

$35, bloomingdales

I was never one of those girls who brought their own nail polish to their nail salon.  I always thought it was strange to pay extra for a polish when it was “included” in your manicure.  Ever since I was little, my grandma would use her one light pink Chanel color, which I never understood considering it looked like Essie’s mademoiselle. But suit herself, she had her ways, and no one could stop her; that’s what I love most.

Now, many years later, I feel as though I’ve fallen into her footsteps, though I do tend to experiment with the polishes I bring rather than sticking to just one color.  I stopped in my nail salon to say hi to a friend earlier this afternoon, and some of the manicurists were complimenting my bedazzled Deborah Lippmann “Happy Birthday” topcoat.

As one said, ’tis the season to be glittery.  So true, and now my favorite line of the season.

Not only is it fun to experiment with glittery top coats, but it’s also nice to wear some classic holiday shades at this time of year such as red.  But whether you’re into red, metallics, glittery topcoats, or just simple black and white, your favorite beauty brands have your back, and have come out with nail polish sets for the holiday season to suit all of our needs (hopefully!)

Might I add, nail polish sets are the perfect holiday gift.  Not too pricey, not too overwhelming; just simple, chic, elegant, thoughtful, and fun.

They are also great stocking stuffers, since they are small yet priceless.

My favorite holiday polishes this year are from the likes of Dior, Deborah Lippmann, and Nars.  Each set has its own uniqueness; they are perfect for the nail polish lover and the woman who is not afraid of color.

$22 each, nordstroms

$18 each, barneys new york

I’m ready for some holiday shades.  Who’s with me?

Holiday Gift For The Makeup Lover: Ice Parade

In Beauty, Holiday on December 1, 2011 at 9:28 AM

sultry, $38, MAC

It’s December 1st, which means today is my first gift suggestion of the holiday season!  There’s nothing like kicking off my list of favorite gifts than with MAC Cosmetics.  Every year, MAC never fails to impress with an amazing holiday collection of makeup.  From the packaging to the product itself, I think that MAC’s holiday collections are always their strongest of the year–I still use my MAC holiday eyeshadow from last year, and it still looks perfectly fresh and new.

While last year’s MAC collection, A Tartan Tale, was all about plaids, velvets, and fantasy, this year’s collection, Ice Parade, is taking on holiday glamour with silver, glittery packaging and metallic makeup.  Think North Pole gone fashion-forward.

The gift options from the Ice Parade collection are endless.  The collection entails clear and silver makeup bags (some contain a variety of face brushes), mini goodies, various kits, and eyeshadow pallets with an actual silver glitter snow globe on top–so fabulous.

I especially love the eye pallets in this collection.  They are perfect gifts for your BFF, mom, or sibling, since there is a wide variety of colors to choose from, it’s fun, and most importantly, what woman doesn’t love a makeup pick-me-up?

My favorite pallet is Sultry, $38, as I love the teal, deep purple, pink, and peach combo.  I bought it at Bloomingdales last weekend, and I can’t wait try it out this weekend for my holiday card photo shoot in front of The Met.

Nail Polish Inspired By The Queen Of Hip-Hop

In Beauty on November 16, 2011 at 7:31 AM

nicki minaj & anna wintour

Nicki Minaj.  Not only can she sing and dance to perfection, but she knows how to make a statement.  Over the last couple of years, Minaj has not only taken over the hip-hop industry with her hit songs, –Superbass has been stuck in my head for months!- but she has also made a grand entrance in the fashion industry with her abnormal, girly yet edgy and chic outfits.  Remember when she sat front-row at Carolina Herrera’s show in September during Fashion Week?  Next to The Queen Of Vogue, Anna Wintour?  That was quite a moment.  What they talked about?  Who knows.  But they sure looked like a rainbow in their colorful frocks.

Speaking of color, Minaj has taken on a new venture: a limited-edition nail polish line, in which she collaborated with OPI.  Minaj’s qualities, which we love so much, are brought out through 6 bottles of nail polish, including bold and bright hues.  Each polish is named after Minaj’s hit songs, so it’s perfect for the music junkie and fashionista.

It’s so hard to pick just one favorite; however, I must say that I completely love ‘Save Me’, a nail lacquer that is in no way shape or form boring.  The only negative?  We have to wait until January!  But, counting down is part of the fun. Below are my favorites.

Nail Polishes Straight From My Vanity

In Beauty on November 6, 2011 at 8:46 AM

My makeup collection seems to get bigger and bigger each season.  With the amount of seasonal colors from the older brands we love like Chanel, and the newer collections such as Charlotte Ronson and Tom Ford Beauty, which we feel we have a duty to try, the options are noticeably endless.  So much so that I’m running out of antique plates and boxes to hold my makeup.

I usually run to get new eyeshadow pallets first, but this fall (and soon to be winter), I find myself more into purchasing nail polish.  I’ve started to become rather bored with picking out the same old shades from my nail salon, so I’ve gradually purchased some trendy and fun colors.

A line of nail polish that I’m obsessed with is Sephora By O.P.I–specifically the clear topcoats with different color glitter.  You can not only put the polish on top of a solid polish, but you can simply put it straight on your nails (though it’s hard to take off).  I bought two: Traffic Stopper Copper Top Coat and Flurry Up Top Coat, both of which are brilliant finishing touches and act like jewelry for your nails.

Both colors add a dazzling glimmer to your nails, which contain large and small glints of glitter.

The topcoat comes in various colors, but the silver and copper are my favorites because they act as neutrals yet are trendy colors to give your nails a chic look.  If you want extra sparkle, apply multiple coats.

So far, I’ve worn the silver, and my manicure lasted for two weeks–groundbreaking record.  I’m excited to wear the copper as it’s a warm shade for this time of year.

Each bottle is available for $9.50 on Which color do you like best?  Vote!

X Out

In Beauty on October 14, 2011 at 7:39 AM

Keeping your skin at its best, no matter how old you are, is extremely important.  Skincare is one of my passions, and is second nature to me since both of my parents are in the business.  Although I have a pretty standard skincare regimen, consisting of my father’s Sadick Dermatology line, I am always up to trying new products.  My new favorite?  X Out: a new one-step anti-hassle and anti-breakout wash-in treatment designed specifically for teens.

X Out was designed to wash powerful, acne fighting medicine into the pores and leave it behind to treat blemishes and help kill the bacteria that causes breakouts.  X Out™ helps banish existing pimples while nourishing skin with a unique moisturizing complex that helps leave the skin feeling smooth and looking healthy.

From the makers of Proactiv, this new one-step product is more than just any other product you have in your cabinet as it is completely digital savvy.  X Out is the first acne brand with its own entertainment channel to help teens time the suggested two minute wash time of the product.  You even have the ability to scan the product on your phone to go straight to the product’s website for the day’s “Daily Distraction”.

Scan it!

Instead of having multiple products clutter up your space, how about having just one with three ways of using it?  The product can be used as a wash, a mask, and a spot treatment.  I like using it best as a mask because I feel like I’m giving myself a mini facial.

So go on, buy a product, and make your skincare routine more enjoyable and digital savvy!

I Love NY

In Beauty on September 28, 2011 at 2:39 PM

I’m getting ready to leave for Pittsburgh, PA, packing my last minute must-haves and making sure I have enough reading material and new music to last me the ride.  Every time I go on a weekend getaway, I find myself extremely relaxed upon my return.  And above all, I appreciate my city so much more.

To celebrate my love of New York, this post is all about a new Bond No.9 fragrance that I recommend to all who love this concrete jungle: it’s called I LOVE NEW YORK.  This new edition of fragrance is easy to wear, and most importantly, easy to love.  It’s available “For Her“, “For Him“, and “For All.

“For Her” is my favorite.  The perfume consists of notes of mandarin zest, spicy nutmeg, blueberry accord, roses, pink peonies, patchouli, musk, vanilla, sandalwood and leather accord.  How delicious! For Him smells just as good, but with a more masculine vibe, consisting of ginger, juniper berry, grapefruit zest, lavender, geranium, patchouli, leather, sandalwood, labdanum, musk and amber.  “For All” is perfect for a couple because they can share the bottle and smell absolutely delectable: a velvety smooth java infusion where full bodied geranium meets sandalwood with street smarts.

On top of loving the scents, I am completely obsessed with the packaging.  Colorful, bold, and overboard chic, this is a definite must-have to add onto your perfume collection.  My favorite bottle is the black one (“For All”) because it’s classic and truly emphasizes the I love NY logo.

So, darlings, head over to a store who carries Bond near you, spritz a little on your wrist, and then make a purchase if you wish

Baby Lips

In Beauty, Fashion Week, Video on September 18, 2011 at 6:12 PM

If you think charity event goodie bags are good, wait until you see a Fashion Week goodie bag.  At some shows during New York Fashion Week, designers will give out goodie bags placed at each seat for attending their show.  For instance, Charlotte Ronson had a great goodie bag filled with makeup from her new line at Sephora and a free 3 day membership to Equinox sports club.  The goodie bag that’s my favorite, though, is the one from the Teen Vogue Declare Your Denim fashion show.

Let me just say, there was quite some variety.  A crunch candy bar, a Boy Meets Girl 10% off card, an Aldo gift card, Paul Frank underwear, Marc Jacobs perfume samples, Jessica Simpson bedazzled earphones, a Bebe keychain, the newest Teen Vogue issue, a Bebe catalogue, and my favorite, the new Maybeline Baby Lips chapstick.

I am absolutely obsessed with Maybeline’s Baby Lips.  Coming in four colors, this chap stick should be on your must-have list for fall, and actually every season.  I’m a total M.A.C lipstick girl, but I’m also now a huge fan of Baby Lips due to the colors, smoothness, and packaging.  I got two colors in my goodie bag: pink and clear.  The pink is oh-so-bright and fun, giving all of my dark outfits a great pop of color.  Although it looks like a spring color, it looks great with an all black outfit.

I’ve been wearing the pink shade almost everyday, but I particuarly loved how it looked when I fashioned my new Fashions Night Out t-shirt (paired with black leggings, black Tory Burch flats, a black cardigan with a ruffled shoulder, a Marc Jacobs tote, and black sunglasses) for a casual day around the city.  I love a good bold lip, and for those who look rather silly in red (like me), this pink is a fab substitute.  The clear is great for when you’re just hanging around the house or going to the gym because it still gives your lip some shine while still looking natural.

P.S-below is a clip of the Teen Vogue Declare Your Denim Fashion Show.

I Want *Prada* Candy

In Beauty on August 15, 2011 at 1:07 PM

After spending 10 days in the Hamptons, it still doesn’t feel like enough.  The weather was gorgeous just about the entire time I was there, leading to many relaxing poolside afternoons at my house, and then fun evenings out. I love the tranquility of Southampton’s town and Coopers Beach on the week days, but then there are always the vibrant, fun, and exciting weekends to look forward to: it’s a great mix.

Now back in the city, and just two weeks before September, I’m starting to shop for fall.  Whether for clothes, shoes, accessories, or beauty products, I shop by the season.  There’s always something fresh and new, especially with the ongoing development of trends.

Before shopping for those heavy winter jackets, stylish boots, and fun-colored J Brand corduroys, my eyes are currently set on Prada’s new perfume that I’ve been waiting for all summer long: Prada Candy.  After smelling the tester at Bloomingdales right at the beginning of summer, I knew this new Prada fragerence would be the perfect fall/winter scent for me.  The composition includes an elegant mix of musks in the top, a sensual balsamic vanillic accord of benzoin in the heart and a sweet modern caramel in the base of the fragrance.  I always tend to gravitate to the sweeter smelling perfumes: Vera Wang’s Princess, Marc Jacobs’ Lola, and Bond’s Andy Warhol.

Not only do I love the smell of this haute Prada scent, but I’m also loving the packaging.  The hot pink and orange bottle combo makes for a girly yet vintage look, perfect for adding onto your perfume bottle collection.

The perfume comes in three different sizes.  I always like to start off with the smallest because a small bottle can last you a long time (for sure over a year, unless you apply more than three times a day, which is still a lot).  So go to the closest department store near you, and take a sniff of Prada Candy, and before you know it, you’ll be saying I want candy!

Sephora’s Newest Addition: Sadick Dermatology Group

In Beauty, Interview/Personal Appearance on July 16, 2011 at 5:36 PM

To some he’s the botox guru, to others he’s Dr. Dior, but to me, he’s dad.  His new skincare line with Sephora, Park Avenue Prescription, launched in 150 stores just two days ago.  Below is my interview with Dr. Sadick.

S: It’s said that people travel from all over the world to get your “Park Avenue Prescription.”  What is it?

D.S: It’s the world’s leading advanced skincare program that is changing the way people take care of their skin.  The first product is the AM Protection Cream that has one of the highest levels of antioxidants available in conjuction with a cosmetically elegant physical sunscreen.  Then there’s the evening program which is very simple: PM Reversal Serum and PM Rejuvenation Cream. This easy serum has new generation peptides and other vitamin A and retinol which combine to keep your collagen stimulated.  We also made this very affordable because we have our own manufacturing facilities and is based upon 25 years of research in our group.

S: Why is it called Park Avenue Prescription?

D.S: Our flagship office is located on Park Avenue, and most people associate Park Ave with something important, prestigeous, and effective.

S: What was the process like of developing this line?

D.S: Sephora came to us a year ago when I was the Global Medical Advisor for Dior (I helped develop their products for the past 6 years), and asked us to develop a word class scientifically clinically proven skincare line that they could utilize throughout the US, Canada, and potentially around the world.  I helped choose each ingredient for the products and oversaw the clinical testing that showed the amazing 80% improvement of wrinkles, pigmentation and redness on the skin, just after 6 weeks of using the products.

S: Who is your customer?

D.S: Men & women who want to slow down the aging process and prevent the acceleration of photo aging because it’s a lot easier to stop the aging process than to reverse it.

S: How does your line differentiate from other doctor lines?

D.S: I’ve worked with Dior, Avon, Loreal, Procter and Gamble, La Prairie, etc.  I know what’s in those products, I know the way that they’re formulated, and in order for me to have come out with this line, I had recognize a gap.  I felt there was nothing simple and comprehensive in anti-aging.  With us, it’s about how the products work.

S: You’re coming out with a new book sold at all of the B&N and Borders stores around the world.  Tell us about it.

D.S: The New Natural is about what men and women want.  They want to look natural (not necessarily younger), not artificial, but fresher.  It talks about how to say young without the knife, how to slow down the aging process, protecting your skin, and stimulating your natural collagen.

S: What’s next for Sadick Dermatology Group?

D.S: The next group of products: corrector pens then eye line, and then whole body rejuvenation (stretch mark products, cellulite products, and an advanced haircare line).

Beach Beauty

In Beauty on July 14, 2011 at 8:44 PM

The majority of my weekends in the Hamptons are spent out on the beach; a sexy bikini, a funky fedora, a great read, my beach playlist, a light sunscreen, and a comfy beach towel.  But when Monday comes, I’m in the office with not one bit of sun shining on me (unless I’m running an errand).  There’s something about that beach-babe tan and ocean and sand scent that I never want to go away.  Here are three beauty products that will make you feel like you’re at the beach all summer long.

1. Kate Somerville’s 360 Degree Tanning Towelettes $10, Sephora: Containing paraben-free self-tanning formula to give you a quick and even application, you won’t have to worry about streaking, or turning orange.  The most natural fake tan I’ve seen, I actually have it on my face right now, and can tell you it is the best self-tanner; no need for bronzer now!

2. Harajuku Lover’s G of the Sea $30, Sephora:  A delicious splash of crisp apple, magical water lily, crushed berries, dewy freesia, pink peony, jasmine petals, sun drenched woods, transparent musks, and amber-wood,  you’ll be smelling beautifully on and off the beach.  Plus, you’ll have a cute new perfume bottle to add onto your vanity: a mermaid with flowing hair and an adorable green tail, inspired by the magic world of her underground playground.

3. Aqua Liner In Diamond Turquoise Blue $23, Sephora: Ready to feel under the sea?  Try Out Make Up Forever Professional’s new eyeliner.  Rich in polymers, this superior eyeliner offers an impeccable hold that guarantees water, tear, and smudge-proof color.  Quick, easy, and accurate application, you’ll be looking too blue for school.

Beauty-Ful Summer

In Beauty on June 17, 2011 at 5:42 PM

Although summer is here, the sun is most certainly not today.  It has been raining on and off with occasional lightening and thunderstorms.  I actually got stuck in the rain when it was pouring the hardest, and I wasn’t prepared: I was wearing black American Apparel bootie shorts, a neon pink J.Crew v-neck, and Tory Burch flip flops.  Even though my hair was already soaking wet since I had just left my hair salon and didn’t get a blow out, I went to my last resort which was buying one of those cheap umbrellas (that I always say not to purchase) off the street since I had to walk home.

Luckily, tomorrow shows that the sun will finally be back, so I’ll be heading out to the Hamptons in the early morning.  While browsing some of my favorite online stores on this rainy day, I came across two new beauty products that are great for summer, especially when the sun is shining.

The first product is a must for when you want a colorful, bold, sexy, and protected lip.  When the sun is shinning at its max, it’s important to not just apply sunscreen on your body, but on your face too: this includes your lips.  YSL’s new summer lipstick collection ($30 each) is fashionable and safe for complete sun protection as it has SPF 15.  Interesting fact: the collection was inspired by Monsieur Saint Laurent’s iconic color palette, and each lipstick is enveloped in a luxurious gold case designed by Creative Director Stefano Pilati.

The second product is for those who love the red-hot look just as much as me.  Not only can you be bright and bold in red clothes, shoes, lipsticks, and accessories, but you can also be bright and bold in red nail polish.  Dior’s new trio of red nail-polishes ($21 each) are perfect for those who want a fun red and summery nail.  The polishes -Icone, Trafalgar, and Gruau- were inspired by three eras of Dior fashion.  Although some of these shades are darker than others, they all make a statement whether you paint them on your fingernails or toenails.

Both products/collections are great for summer, so definitely check them out!

Surf, Baby!

Get ready to shimmer and shine this summer with M.A.C‘s newest collection Surf, Baby!  This collection is one of my favorites of all time due to the amazing color options, and beach-style packaging.  Bring out your inner beach babe with a sexy eye, sun-kissed cheeks, and glossy lips.

Surf The Ocean:

Surf’s up! Crushed metallic pigment that is perfect for giving you a beachy look, you will look fun and sexy with sparkly eyes.  Mix and choose from the set of four fabulous color options: ‘Cool As Water’, ‘Blue and Aqua-Green’, ‘Silver’, and ‘Platinum Frost’.

Cheek Powder:

Give yourself that hot and sun-kissed cheek with this low-to-buildable coverage.  The powder comes in a peach shade with gold hibiscus overspray.  If you don’t have time to get that natural summer tan on the beach, now you’ll be ready to glow.

Lip Glass:

M.A.C’s most amazing shine is shaded for the season.  Pick from four beautiful light and dark shades to find the best summer glass for you: ‘Girl On Board’, ‘Good Lovin’, ‘Krazy Kahuna’, and ‘Strange Potion’.

Brighten Up Your Eyes

In Beauty on May 26, 2011 at 9:10 PM

It’s time to brighten up your eyes this weekend with a new quad of eyeshadows.  The key to having those perfect summer eyes is for them to be colorful but not too overpowering.  Unfortunately, even when I try my hardest, there is no way of traveling without my extra bag that entails my must-haves.  My makeup bag is something that must transfer back and forth with me.

As I was going through my eyeshadows that I want to bring to the Hamptons this weekend, I noticed that the majority of my shades were in the bronze family: I was lacking color.  Although I love bronze shades (frankly because I feel most comfortable wearing them), there’s something about color that I feel can brighten one’s face in a trendy and fun way.

To give my collection of shadows a new and colorful addition, I decided to invest in Chanel‘s newest summer eyeshadow quad: Lilium.  Each shadow in the quad -shimmery light pink, light and soft green, taupe, and blue-toned green, is on the shimmery and sheer side.  However, when applying with a wet brush, the shades will appear more intense.  I like that I have the option of having a delicate or bold look depending on my mood and what I’m wearing.

I’m finding myself using the light and soft green on my lid, the blue-toned green on my crease, and the shimmery light pink on my arch most.  All in all, I love each shade in this Chanel quad, and Chanel makeup-lovers will not be disappointed.

Lilium is available on for $57.  Although a bit pricey, this quad will last you all summer long.

Chanel vs OPI

In Beauty on May 19, 2011 at 5:17 PM

Get ready to select from any of the many fabulous nail polish brands this summer like Essie, OPI, and Chanel.  All of these brands have come out with colorful selections of polish for the sunny season, but I have only two favorites: OPI, who’s all about going bold, and Chanel, known for being classic and girly.

It’s time for us to pick out some new nail polish colors to give our fingers and toes a colorful glow.  Chanel took a summery and classic approach with its Le Vernis Summer 2011 line.  The line entails three beautiful colors – Beige Petal (sheer and shiny beige), Morning Rose (pink with gold glitter tint), and Mimosa (shimmery yellow)-, one of which has been claimed as the nail polish color of the season: it’s Mimosa.  I was never a fan of yellow polish, but this new color has changed my mind.  Not only is the shade fun and bright (perfect for hanging out by the pool or beach), but wearing it also shows that you are up-to-date on the hottest colors, and the citrus trend.

OPI went for a bolder approach with its limited line of nail polish inspired by new movie, “The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Collection“.  This line of polish features 7 funky and bright shades for summer, each one with a unique name.  In order of the polishes in the photo below, the colors are Silver Shatter, Skull & Glossbones, Steady As She Rose, Sparrow Me The Drama, Planks A Lot, Stranger tides, and Mermaid’s Tears.  Not only do I love the cleverness of the polish names, but I also have some color favorites.  Planks A Lot is a great toe color, while Sparrow Me The Drama and Steady As She Rose are great for fingernails.  If you want a metallic glow, then Silver Shatter will be perfect.

The Chanel nail polish colors are available on for $25 each, and the OPI nail polish colors are available on for $8.50 each.

What’s your favorite summer nail polish color?

It’s the day you’ve all been waiting for, The Royal Wedding.  Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding plans were quite the hot topic these last couple of months, and now everyone is excited to see the plans come to life.  As I was sitting with my mom watching Liz Cho report on the wedding last night, my mom was telling me how she watched Princess Diana’s wedding.  This wedding is legendary for not only the Prince and Princess themselves, but for the public too.

People have been full of curiosity and excitement, wondering what dress Kate will wear to her royal wedding.  For those who were awake bright and early this morning (as in 4 am), television viewers witnessed Kate’s choice: an Alexander McQueen dress designed by Sarah Burton.  Some thought drab, while others thought fab.  One minute I hear my gym teacher raving how stunning the dress is, while customers at Via Quadrono were ranting as to how un-stunning (if you will) it is.  Although some might think the dress is over-covering and maybe a little too sophisticated, it’s appropriate: long sleeves, tight bodice, signature silhouette, and lace detailing.  Guest Posh Spice, aka Victoria Beckham, took a more dramatic approach with a unicorn-esq hat (talk about opposites).

For those of you who want to add a little Royal Wedding spirit to your outfit today, paint your nails in Butter London‘s limited-edition nail polish color in honor of Princess Kate.  The color is called “No More Waity, Katie“.  The color is elegant,  fun, and sparkles with lilac glitter: a royal twist.

Sydney Attends Neutrogena’s Beauty Blogger Event

In Beauty on April 6, 2011 at 7:37 PM

Since June, when I first started blogging, I have connected with bloggers, important people in the journalism and the fashion industry, and fans who read my blog around the world.  Today, I had the opportunity to attend a Neutrogena beauty bloggers conference to network with fellow bloggers and learn about the science behind skin aging and fast forward to the latest innovations of anti-aging.

The Neutrogena beauty bloggers conference took place at the just-opened Mondrian Hotel in Soho.  Neutrogena sent a car service for each attendee which definitely added some glamour to the experience: I was picked up by a black Mercedes SUV.  When arriving at the absolutely stunning and cutting edge all blue Mondrian Hotel, I was escorted to an intimate sized room full of tables covered with notepads and pens.  Before the conference began, you were able to get some light food at the buffet-style table towards the back of the room full of wraps, fruit, salads, cookies, etc.

Once the 20-30 bloggers sat down with something to nibble on, the conference began, which was led by a Neutrogena executive, a Johnson & Johnson executive, and a NYC dermatologist, Dr. Diane Berson, who recognized me as I walked in since she is in the same field as my dad.   Dr. Berson gave a great lecture about the science behind skin aging and how to prevent your skin from aging tomorrow, and introduced Neutrogena’s new Rapid Wrinkle Repair Line. My teen readers don’t need this type of line yet, but my older readers who want a product line rather than injectables will be interested.  The line contains a day, night and eye moisturizer.  As said by Neutrogena, this new aesthetically pleasing line with Accelerated Retinol SA is formulated with Stabilized Retinol and a glucose complex: this is what improves your overall skin texture.  Neutrogena also says that the line is proven to help fade the look of stubborn deep wrinkles, brighten skin’s tone and smooth fine lines and textures.

The presentation and conference in and of itself was very interesting and a great opportunity for us bloggers because we were able to network with one another, learn about a new product line, and have the ability to talk to important figures in the beauty industry.  I left the event with new connections, more knowledge, and a cute goodie bag which contained the entire Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair line.  Check out these products on

3D Eye Shadow

In Beauty on March 31, 2011 at 12:25 PM

Confession: I am not a fan of 3D movies.  Although 3D movies seem to have taken over the film industry, I find them rather annoying; however, it does take you to a place of imagination where creativity can evolve.  Despite not liking to watch 3D movies,  I’m willing to take a shot at three-dimensional inspired makeup.

Lorac just came out with its Spring collection.  I’ve worn the same light pink blush by Lorac since I was a little girl, and I’m not willing to give it up.  I wear a variety of makeup brands due to my love for a selection of products.  For example, I love Dior foundation and mascara where my love for lipsticks and eyeshadows belong to MAC; however, I do branch out of my comfort zone, and try new products each season.

My favorite product in Lorac’s Spring 2011 collection is the ‘Multiplex 3D Eyeshadow Pallet‘.  This limited edition pallet sparkles and shimmers with its six gorgeous 3D shadows: opalescent gold with pink pearl, amber bronze with gold pearl,red/brown with green pearl, silver with white pearl, royal blue with electric blue pearl, and midnight black with holographic 3D glitter.

Each color, when applied to your lid, shimmers with a metallic look.  I’m all for metallics for day and night because they really make your eyes pop to perfection.  To give your eyes an even bolder and intenser look, dipping your eyeshadow brush in a little water will deepen the color pigment.  If you want a delicate and soft look, applying the shadows with a dry brush will do the trick.

What I love just as much as the eyeshadows is the case that the shadows come in.  The shadows are packaged in a super chic and trendy faux animal skin pallet that is so fun and colorful.  When I purchase makeup, the packaging is just as important as the content itself, so I like that the shadows are not only great, but its packaging is cool and funky too.

Bring out the shadows on your lids with a cream blazer, black leggings, black sparkly peep-toe booties, a cream hobo handbag with gold hardware, and hanging light grey and charcoal grey crystal earrings for an overall sparkly, edgy, yet elegant look.  If you need to wear sunglasses, wear ones that aren’t too dark so everyone can admire your fabulous eyes.

The Lorac 3D eyeshadow pallet is available on for $38.

M.A.C Cosmetic’s Jeanius Lips

In Beauty on March 21, 2011 at 4:33 PM

At the beginning of each season, I like to invest in a few great pieces of makeup.  Although I’m experimental with makeup, I find myself sticking with my classic shades because they’re are the ones I feel most comfortable with.  However, it takes one good makeup artist at one good store to sell me on a product.  That’s what Jesse, a M.A.C makeup artist, did for me at the M.A.C counter at Henri Bendel’s.

I am addicted to M.A.C’s lipstick, Frou, a metallic bronze that looks perfect on my skin and matches with every solitary outfit I own.  Even though I’m obsessed with Frou and wouldn’t use any other lipstick as my daily basic,  Jesse sold me a perfect lipstick for when I want a bolder look. (In photo: Frou)

M.A.C just came out with a new collection of makeup for Spring called Jeanius, which as said on, takes America’s “national obsession” with denim and translates it to a hip, artistic makeup line. The line contains eyeshadows, eyeliners, brow markers, powder blushes, lipglasses, nail polishes, and my favorite, lipsticks.

The line contains three lipstick colors: Acid Washed (grayish beige with gold pearl), Pretty Please (pale pink pearl), and Riveting Rose (deep burgundy with blue pearl).  Based on what Frou looks like, you might guess that I purchased Acid Washed, but not this time.  I went for Riveting Rose, the bold and luscious color that defines the shape of my lips and is a must have for Spring.

Riveting Rose is not only a fun and fresh color to wear during the day, but it is also a great color to wear at night.  Red is a color that most girls wear when wanting a bold, sexy and crisp lip.  However, I don’t think that red looks good in Spring and Summer, so a color like Riveting Rose is a good substitute. (In photo: Riveting Rose)

Riveting Rose, and the other three shades of lipstick in the Jeanius collection, is available on for $14.50.

Tibi Inspires Bobbi Brown

In Beauty on March 13, 2011 at 10:02 AM

You know Spring is about to arrive when it’s daylight savings time.  Don’t forget to move all of your fabulous watches and clocks an hour ahead: there are some things you don’t want to be fashionably late for.

A few weeks ago, I did a store profile on Tibi in Soho.  Tibi is one of my favorite clothing lines, and I would be content fashioning its colorful and flirty dresses all Spring long.  For those of you who love Tibi and makeup just as much as I do, you’ll be excited to hear the following.

(In photo: Bobbi Brown applying makeup at the Tibi Spring 2011 Fashion Show)  Bobbi Brown just came out with a limited edition eyeshadow ‘Peony & Python Pallet‘ that was inspired by lush peonies and the playful, feminine chic of the cult fashion label Tibi (as said on   The pallet contains 6 gorgeous Spring shades in the lilac, purple, and grey family.   The combination of the colors will give you an edgy and fresh look.

The shadows sit in an adorable peony and python case that was designed by Tibi exclusively for Bobbi Brown.  I love this pallet because you’re not only getting great shadows that come with two proffessional brushes, but you’re also getting a fashionable case to keep it safe in.

Bring out these lilac, purple, and grey shades with a great spring outfit: a purple dress, nude pumps, a denim jean jacket, an oversized purple necklace with pops of other colors like orange, a nude purse, and rose-colored aviators.

Check out the ‘ Peony & Pylon Pallet‘ on for $50.

Hello Kitty For Sephora

In Beauty on March 6, 2011 at 9:04 AM

Hello Kitty is one of the most globally known brands, with its playful yet sophisticated line of everything from a set of stationary to a piece of jewelry, plus so much more.  You might love Hello Kitty for little accessories, colorful randoms, or just the Hello Kitty face itself.  Now it’s time to add Hello Kitty makeup to that list, because Hello Kitty, as said on, has brought her playful spirit to a new beauty line presented exclusively at Sephora.

The Hello Kitty collection is high-end and sophisticated, but it is also extremely stylish, fun, girly, and glamorous.  Look at this ‘Bling‘ mirror: you can’t get any more girly and glamorous then that!  The Hello Kitty line not only consists of makeup, but fragrance, skincare,  and hair as well.  However, the makeup part of the collection is my favorite.  I don’t know what’s best about the collection: the charming packaging, or the colors that each product comes in.

As I was browsing through the different makeup, I came across something that I think is a must for all of you eyeliner lovers.  I’m a huge eyeliner wearer and lover: I never leave my apartment without it on.  Finding the right brand can be a challenge, but I eventually found myself following my mother’s footsteps and using a Chanel pencil: I love it, but I’m always willing to try something new.

The Hello Kitty Collection came out with a ‘Charmy Kohl Eyeliner Kit‘ that is perfect in terms of color options, packaging, and price.  The adorable reusable box has a cool/vintage vibe and contains seven colors that will allow you to play with different looks for different occasions.  Here are the color options: Good Night Dreams (black), Grape Juice (purple), Chocolate Milk (brown), Happy Cloud (white), Blueberry (navy), Bicycle (teal green), and Blue Sky (bright light blue).  All of the colors are fun, all of which can be used through all seasons.  What’s your favorite color?

Sydney Goes To MAC Wonder Woman Pop-Up Store

In Beauty, On Location on February 27, 2011 at 1:18 PM

A few weeks ago, MAC Cosmetics opened its first pop-up store in Soho to celebrate its launch of Wonder Woman makeup.  I finally made it to the ever-so-red store this weekend (the building is so bright that you couldn’t miss it even if you tried), and I was a bit blown away.  In collaboration with DC Entertainment, MAC launched a cool and retro collection of Wonder Woman inspired makeup to celebrate the 1980’s comic-book icon.

When walking into the store, I first encountered the oversized poster of Wonder Woman hanging from the ceiling that was so tall that my head went all the way back when starring up at the face.  On both sides of the stores are all of the Wonder Woman comic-books from the 80’s, chronologically placed to perfection.

In the middle of the store sits endless amount of makeup, the Wonder Woman collection placed in comic-book looking holders, in addition to the standard all year round MAC Collection.

Some makeup that you’ll find in the Wonder Woman collection are dark lipsticks, bright lip-glosses, three different pallets of eyeshadow -blue, pink/purple, and green- (the pink/purple is my favorite), blush, plus more.  I’m obsessed with the packaging, so even if you don’t like any of the makeup itself, I would even just buy something for the packaging because it could be a collectors item years from now.

If you want to try some “pops” of color while at the store, get your makeup done by a MAC makeup artist and indulge in the Wonder Woman spirit by sitting in high chairs with bright lights on you, in addition to Wonder Woman sayings blown up on the walls.

Another great item that is sold at the pop-up are metallic brush cases in red, blue, and gold: super chic.  If you want to get transformed and experience this Wonder Woman makeup land like me, be sure to check out the pop-up  before it closes in mid April on 113 Spring Street.

Sydney Goes To The Jimmy Choo Perfume Launch

In Beauty, Celebrities, Interview/Personal Appearance, On Location on February 9, 2011 at 4:03 PM

What do I do when I have a free during school?  I go to blog-worthy launches and events for products, designers, and celebrities that I am obsessed with.  A few weeks ago, I blogged about the then soon-to-be out Jimmy by Jimmy Choo Perfume.  Guess what?  Today was the launch of the perfume, and I was able to cover it.

The launch of the Jimmy by Jimmy Choo perfume took place on the beauty level -first floor- of Saks Fifth Avenue.  I had 45 minutes to get to Saks from the Upper East Side, get info on the product, take pictures, and make it back to class in one piece.  Mission accomplished.  When I arrived at Saks Fifth Avenue, there was a long camel carpet (the red-carpet aesthetic) for founder Tamara Mellon to walk down with her new fragrance.  All shoppers and staff gathered to see Tamara walk the carpet, and you could tell how thrilled and excited she was.

The beauty level was packed with hundreds of girls waiting to meet Tamara, so I knew I wouldn’t have time to wait and get my perfume signed.  However, I was able to get into the press-only area in which I was able to snap pictures of Tamara, who fashioned a cheetah dress –so on trend- and a bright orange clutch for a pop of color.

As I was taking pictures of Tamara, I was pleasantly surprised to see Gossip Girl star, Jessica Szhor, who I was also able to get shots of.  Jessica looked stunning in a classic white button down and black pants, with a shiny pink lip.  She was cute and playful while spritzing the perfume on her, and it was nice to watch.  I was noticeably the only non-papparazi taking pics of her, and I saw her smiling at me and then looking towards the bottom half of my outfit.  Well,  I finally realized what Jessica was looking at: my uniform skirt which was used in Gossip Girl when they were still in high school.  I have to say, it was pretty funny.

Also present at the launch of the perfume were models who were dressed up in adorable black dresses embellished with crystals and pink and black scarves, spraying the fragrance on customers who wanted a sniff of the scent.  The perfume was clearly a hit based on the amount of people that were there, and I am definitely a fan.  The perfume is available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $95.

I’ve had a great day today, and it just got even better.  It is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC, one of my favorite weeks of the year, and I am pleased to announce that I will be covering some shows!  Get ready for a full coverage on the Jill Stuart show this weekend, and the Pamella Roland show next week, plus more: I can’t wait!

Glee-k Out

In Beauty on February 3, 2011 at 4:59 PM

TV show Glee has not only inspired viewers to pursue their singing dreams, but the show has also inspired the creation of various products.  The show, at times, can be irresistible with the phenomenal list of celebrity guests like Britney Spears and Gweneth Paltrow.  Viewers have fallen in love with Glee stars like Lea Michele and Mark Salling so much that products being affiliated with the show and its stars has raised buys significantly.  While browsing the Sephora website, I came across a new nail polish set that will definitely catch the eye of the Glee fan.

Nail polish company O.P.I not only has their own collections, but the company also has deals with certain designers and stores like Sephora and Nicole Miller to create lots of colorful options.  Sephora by O.P.I just came out with a “Glee 6 Piece Mini Kit” that is a set of six mini nail colors inspired by characters from the show.  As said on, this nail kit “gives your fingertips the next solo as you Gleek out with this set of nail products.”

What I love most about this nail set is the ability to not just wear a color alone, but you can mix and match colors as well to create your own unique, not necessarily Gleek, look. Here are the six colors and descriptions that come in this adorable set:

Miss Bossy Pants-rich raspberry, Slushied-opaque blue, Celibacy Club- glimmering diamond top coat which is a mini kit exclusive, Gleek Out- glittery lime green, Sue vs. Shue- rebellious navy blue, and Express Yourself To Yourself- coral shimmer.

Each shade is fun, and mostly bright, but I have two favorites: Miss Bossy Pants and Sue vs. Shue.  I’m curious as to what the colors would look like if you mixed and match: sounds like an experiment.  This new and exclusive Glee mini kit is available on for $24: check it out.

Sammi Sweetheart’s Perfume

In Beauty on January 26, 2011 at 6:00 PM

Who knew that a reality show following 8 cast members and their vulgar language, portrayals of certain stereo-types, trashy attire, and overall bad behavior would become MTV’s highest rated show on television.  It’s all thanks to the cast of Jersey Shore, surprisingly one of my favorite TV shows.  Jersey Shore is pure entertainment: the cast is definitely one of a kind.  There’s Mike “The Situation”, whose abs are priceless, Jwoww, whose got a hard punch, Vinny, the down-to-earth pleaser, Ronnie, the cheater, Pauly-D, the DJ, Snookie, the craziest and tiniest of them all, Sammi Sweetheart, the nice yet tough girl, and new member Dena, who can barely stand on her own two feet.

The show is on its third season, and it gets better every week.  The reason why I think Jersey Shore is so popular is because each cast member has created a brand for themselves by having their own signature saying, look, etc that is irresistible to watch.  Where would we get GTL (gym, tan, laundry) from if it weren’t for the guys?  The cast of Jersey Shore has definitely made television history, so much so that the cast was interviewed by Barbra Walters for her Most Fascinating People 2010 show.

Most of the cast members have made lots of side deals -like Mike The Situation who has made $10 million this year- such as being the face for a product, creating a clothing line, writing a book, plus more.  There’s a new business-member in the group: Sammi Sweetheart.  Don’t underestimate the somewhat oblivious cast member, because Sammi has just come out with a perfume line of her own called Dangerous.

Dangerous (as said on the Dangerous Perfume website) is dangerously sweet…just like Sammi.  I don’t know what the perfume smells like yet because it doesn’t come out until the Spring.  However, if you are desperate for this perfume, a very limited amount of the 1.7ml spray bottle is now available for pre-sale.  The perfume can be purchased as a spritzer or a roll-on for both men and women.  The roll-ons are easy for travel while the purplish/pink larger bottle is good to keep at home for daily use.  This perfume will be a hit with Jersey Shore fans.

The perfume is available for $21 on

Baked Moonshadow

In Beauty on January 19, 2011 at 6:26 PM

Trish McEvoy, Clinique, MAC, and Christian Dior are some of the many makeup brands to choose from when purchasing makeup.  My makeup bag contains more than just one brand, so I find myself running to different stores for different products, like Bloomingdales and Sephora.  Makeup is not cheap, it’s somewhat of an investment.  If I’m on a makeup run for lets say eyeshadow, I need a shadow that is colorful, striking, easy, and inexpensive because the color I want usually only pertains to a few outfits for certain occasions.

Don’t just buy a shadow for one outfit, but buy for all, and one at a reasonable price.  You’re not always going to find designer-brand makeup like Chanel that is inexpensive, so try store-brand names like Sephora.  I used to think that wearing store-brand makeup was like taking generic medicine from a pharmacy.  I still feel that way about store-brand medicine, but not about store-brand makeup.

Sephora has their own line of fabulous makeup that is just as cool and chic as the more expensive brands out there, but at a better price.  What I love most in the Sephora collection are the Sephora eyeshadows, a bakedmoon shadow, in particular.  Sephora recently came out with a “Meteor Shower Bakedmoon Shadow” trio that is perfect in color and in price.   The trio provides you with three colorful and glamorous shades: rich earthy brown shimmer, bronzer shimmer, and deep turquoise shimmer.  The shades blend easily to create a powerful smokey eye with a sparkly finish that is perfect for the day and going into the night.

If you want a more intense look,  wet your eyeshadow brush when applying the colors for a bold effect.  Lastly, the darkest shade can be used as an eyeliner, so don’t worry about having to use your eye pencil.  I love the shades in this trio, and they will look great with anything from jeans and a cute blouse to a striking cocktail dress at night.  An outfit in the blue and bronze tones will look great with the eyeshadow shades.  The trio is available on for $17 – check it out.

Dior Show Waterproof Mascara

In Beauty on January 13, 2011 at 4:40 PM

Long and beautiful eyelashes should be the outcome when putting on mascara.  Unfortunately, not all makeup brands have the ability to have that outcome, so finding the perfect mascara brand is like being on a never-ending search.  I’ve gone through tons of mascara through the years before finding my perfect match: everything from Maybelline at my local drugstore to Givenchy at Sephora.  It took me long enough to find the right mascara, but I’m so happy that I finally did: Dior Show Waterproof Mascara.

Above is my makeup bag that holds my most used makeup.  I start off by applying my Trish McEvoy eye base, and then I put on a little eyeshadow -I have a Trish McEvoy two-level quad which holds four eyeshadow colors and a bronzer: rose-gold, lilac, deep purple, and a silver shimmer.  After I put on my favorite Dior Show Waterproof mascara for a settle -during the day- or dramatic -during the night- look, I put on some Chanel eyeliner.  When I’m done applying makeup to my eyes, I finish off my look by applying one squirt of Dior foundation, a drop of blush, and my favorite MAC lipstick called frou: a worthwhile process.

Searching no more, Dior Show Waterproof Mascara has given my already long eyelashes an even more extended and intense look.  Since I’m blonde, finding the right color mascara can be a challenge since black is most definitely out of the question: way too dark.  I was relieved to find out that the Dior mascara comes in chestnut: a light brown that looks darker the more you apply the mascara to your lashes.  The mascara comes in not only chestnut, but black and azure blue too.  Side note: The Azure Blue Dior Show Mascara is one of Katy Perry’s favorite products.

A story that I always love to hear behind the popular Dior mascara starts with designer John Galliano wanting his runway models to have chunky eyelashes.  He decided to take the bristle of a toothbrush and dip it into black liquid, which magically created thick eyelashes.  Galliano then had his creative team come up with a way to duplicate this concept, and created a huge brush so customers could get this runway look.  This innovation is legendary today.

The Dior Show Waterproof Mascara is available in all three colors on for $24.  Start using this mascara, and you’ll get that runway look John Galliano envisioned himself.

P.S.  This is my 200th post!

Jimmy Choo Perfume

In Beauty on January 7, 2011 at 10:20 AM

Jimmy Choo -known as one of the most glamorous, trendy, and expensive designer brands- has come to the world of fragrance.  I love Jimmy Choo shoes for their unique and sexy look.  You can find a classic pump, a sexy stiletto, a conservative yet colorful flat, and even a Jimmy Choo Ugg and Jimmy Choo Hunterboot: there are always lots of options.  If Tamara Mellon (Chief Creative Officer and co-founder of Jimmy Choo, the face of the Jimmy Choo perfume advertisements) used as much creativity with her shoes as with her perfume, it should definitely be on your shopping list.

Putting on perfume is one of my most important steps when getting ready: I save the best step for last.  I like to use different perfumes each season because some seasons require a heavier scent (winter) while others (summer) require a lighter scent.  The scent you wear somewhat defines you.  Perfumes can have an older scent, a younger scent, a sweeter scent, etc.  It’s about you finding your signature scent.  Making sure the perfume you wear isn’t too strong is really important: you’re not going to be able to use the coffee bean trick everywhere you go, although it is fun to do at department stores.

I’m currently using Marc Jacob’s Lola (which I love), but I still switch around to some of my others like Hermes’ Kelly, Vera Wang’s Princess, and Gucci’s Envy me-just to name a few.  Now that Jimmy Choo is coming out, I’m ready to make a transformation.  Are you?

Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo is a fruity perfume composed of green notes, tiger orchid, sweet toffee, and patchouli.  It is perfect for the girl who wants a bit of a sweeter scent, and who also considers packaging when making a purchase.  The perfume comes in a trendy pink bottle.  Tamara Mellon designed the bottle which is modern, girly, and strong.  If you’re not grabbing attention in a Jimmy Choo shoe, don’t worry, because you most definitely will with this new perfume: I have a feeling this perfume is going to be the hottest scent of 2011.  The perfume is currently sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue, and is available for $64.

Protect Your Skin

In Beauty, Resort on December 28, 2010 at 10:58 AM

If you’re hanging out on the beach on the East Coast or taking over the ski slopes on the West Coast for winter break, you must protect your skin.  Sunscreen is the last thing I want to put on my body: it can smell, feel gross, and all of the above.  However, it’s a necessity.  My dad is a dermatologist, so I’ve been taught from a very young age that wearing sunscreen on a hot sunny day is crucial – especially for people who have fair skin.

My dad sells his own line of products, but when I asked him what the best over the counter sunscreen is, he said the Neutrogena Age Shield SPF 90 with Helioplex.  This sunscreen is known for best overall protection and as you can see, the UV protection is clearly a plus with SPF 90. One of the reasons that this sunscreen is liked is because it has helioplex.  As said on, helioplex is a stabilized, patented combination of oxybenzone and avobenzone that has been demonstrated in clinical tests to provide longer-lasting UVA protection than most other sunscreens.  If you want an inexpensive sunscreen ($9.95 on that will provide overall sun protection, this Neutrogena product will do the trick.

If you’re one of those people who just won’t put on sunscreen (sometimes I’m like that), protect yourself with some fashionable clothing/accessories.  Put on a cute fedora -they’re so in-, some oversized sunglasses (Nicole Richie would be proud), and a cute bathing suit coverup when you’re not in the water.  For those of you on the slopes, you’re already covered with ski gear, so you want to focus on covering your face.  Any form of protection is a plus, but sunscreen is of course the best.

Put on your sunscreen and fashionable “protection pieces”, and you’ll be ready for a day in the sun.

5 Shades of Tie Dye

In Beauty, Holiday on December 22, 2010 at 11:10 AM

Having the perfect holiday lip can make -never break- your outfit.  The one piece of makeup that I can’t leave my apartment without is my lipgloss.  If I don’t wear lipgloss, my face actually feels naked.  I have a tendency to only stick to one type of lipgloss, but the holiday season makes me want to branch out and try new brands and color shades.  Daring, right?

Sephora has great holiday deals during this time of year where items worth $100 are available for $25.  If your gift recipient loves makeup, getting her a limited edition lip gloss collection will be a fun and cute gift.  Lorac -a makeup company- just came out with a limited edition holiday ‘Tie Dye For Lipgloss Collection” that is perfect for the girl who wants a colorful, shiny, and long lasting lip.  The set comes with 5 gorgeous shades of full size glosses: Flaming Mix (red), Shocking Twist (fuchsia), Social Mixer (pale pink), Berry Blender (purple), and In The Mix (nude).  This collection is so to die for.

Not only do I love the look of the lip-glosses, but I love what’s in them too.  These glosses are formulated with acai berry and pomegranate for a boost of protecting antioxidants – love acai berry and pomegranate.  Whenever I buy sets of lipgloss, I feel that there is always that one color that just doesn’t work.  Not with this collection: each color looks great depending on my outfit.

The set is available for just $25 on  If you break it down, you’re getting each lipgloss for $5 each – what a deal!  Get this set of lipgloss for your makeup-loving gift recipient, and you will definitely make her holiday.

The Gingerbread Girl

In Beauty, Holiday on December 15, 2010 at 3:40 PM

One of my favorite parts about the holidays is the holiday flavors: candy cane, cinnamon sugar, gingerbread, and more.  When it’s so cold outside -just like today- it’s important to keep your body exfoliated.  When I was younger, I wasn’t “into” wearing creams and using lots of bubble baths, but now -especially during this time of year which is cold and stressful- it actually relaxes me.

Girls love to relax, so bath and body products are always a good gift to give for the holidays.  When we use products, we want our bodies to feel smooth but smell good at the same time.  Philosophy is a company that does a great job at making a great product yet still having a delicious scent.  Here’s my gift suggestion of the day: the Philosophy Gingerbread Girl Set.

The Gingerbread Girl Set is a two-piece holiday set featuring a gingerbread foaming bubble bath/shower gel and a body lotion.  The bubble bath/shower gel will cleanse, hydrate, and soften skin, and the body lotion will also hydrate you with its natural oils.  I love gingerbread during this time of year.  It’s sweet, but not too sweet, which is why I not only love the scent of these products, but the taste of gingerbread cookies too. It’s head-to-toe holiday relaxation.

The products come in an adorable pink gingerbread house-looking box that gives the extra touch of holiday spirit.  The set is $20, a great price, and is available on

Chanel Holiday: An Irresistible Nail Trio

In Beauty, Holiday on December 8, 2010 at 5:04 PM

Girls love to get pampered – I know I do – especially during the holidays.  Something that really relaxes me at this time of year is getting a manicure/pedicure.  After tons of holiday shopping, my feet hurt so badly that it just feels great to sit down.  Sitting in a comfy chair in a zen (if you will) environment where nothing is on your mind is the ultimate comfort.

My friend Liz says that my nails are always polished.  To be honest, it annoys me when my nails are gross and chipped because it’s tempting to either bite or pick them.  Because I “can’t handle a chip”, I like to have a nail polsih set of my own so I can touch them up myself.

Here’s a great holiday present: the Holiday Collection 2010 Chanel de Vernis Gift Set.  This set is perfect for the nail obsessor and Chanel lover (like me).  The set includes three colors inspired by the runway: Rouge Noir (black-red), Coromandel (fire-hot red), and Gold-Lame (gold-member gold).  My favorite color is Gold-Lame because it will brighten up my finger and toe nails during cruise season.  Cruise and summer are the seasons where you want people to acknowledge your nails.

Plus, the polishes come in a cute Chanel carrying case which makes the perfect home for them.  You could also use the case for other pieces of makeup.  The set is $66 and will be a very handy gift for a woman.  Check it out on

It’s the Holiday season, so you want to look your best.  This is the time of year to get glitzy and glamorous and dress to perfection.  Part of making the perfect outfit is to pair it with fabulous makeup.  Luckily, makeup companies like MAC, Trish McEvoy, and Christian Dior come out with limited-edition Holiday collections to bring out our beauty each season.

Christian Dior is one of my favorite makeup companies.  I have a bunch of limited edition makeup collectibles, and they are so fun to look at. I live in the Dior Show mascara – which gives me the ultimate long eyelashes- and Natural Glow foundation that gives my face a natural glow – how ironic. (just to name a few).  Out of all of the 2010 Holiday makeup collections, I think the Christian Dior one is the best.

Dior just came out with a limited addition makeup pallet that defines the ultimate collection: efficient application and beautiful colors.  You want to look bright and glamorous, and you’ll find that with the 6 eyeshadows that come in the pallet which (as said on range from a pearlescent white highlighter to a smoky gray: the colors definitely follow the Fall and Winter trends.  Also in this adorable pallet is a mini Dior Show mascara (love), a mini pink Ultra Gloss (you’ll get that glossy lip), a medium pressed powder, a pink powder blush, and an inside mirror which gives you the ability to put on your makeup and look fabulous at any given time and place.

Did I mention the chic packaging?  This exquisite set of makeup comes in a sleek red patent cannage case which looks like the Princess Diana signature Dior purse pattern.  The set is sold for $75 which is a great deal (look how much you’re getting!) and is perfect for any woman.  Check it out on

A Tartan Tale

In Beauty, Holiday on November 28, 2010 at 9:33 PM

I just got back to New York from Montreal, and I definitely miss it.  Pickled chips, crunchie bars, the French language, old architecture, the food, and the shopping – it was a great get away.  Now back in the States, the Holiday season is officially here.  I just put on the radio and boy was it a wake up call to hear 12 Days of Christmas. Starting December 1st, get ready for your 25-day Holiday Wish-List where each day I will give you the ultimate ideas for wants, and gifts for others.

Before we get to Dec 1st, let’s talk about what just happened in the beauty industry.  Mac just came out with their holiday collection called “A Tartan Tale“.  The line is great, and the packaging is adorable.  Colorful and plaid compacts, you’ll definitely want to get a piece of this collection.

“A Tartan Tale” is comprised of lip kits, lipsticks, eyeshadows, blush, nail kits, and more, all in Holiday colors and will look perfect with your warm-toned outfits.  It’s fun to experiment with different cosmetics even if you do like to stick to your usuals: you can always combine the old with the new.

Prices range from $22-$50.  The collection is available on the Mac website and stores who carry Mac.

Show Stopping Colors

It’s time to glitz up your nails with the new OPI nail polish colors from the movie Burlesque and the holiday season.  Burlesque is all about sexy, glitz, and glamour – how could you not want your nails to have those qualities?  The movie stars the one and only Cher (I can’t get the words from her song ‘Believe’ out of my head) and Christina Aguilera, so you know it’s going to be great.

I’m obsessed with the colors in this collection . The names of the colors are (and this is in order of how they are listed in the picture above – going across) Simmer & Shimmer, Show It & Glow It, Sparkle-Icious, Let Me Entertain You, Ali’s Big Break, Tease-Y Does It, Bring On The Bling, Glow Up Already!, Extra-Va-Ganza!, Rising Star, Take The Stage, and The Show Must Go On!.

Wow are those names intense – the colors are too.  I have a few favorites in this collection: Tease-Y- Does It, Bring On The Bling, and Spark-Icious.  I’ve never been into sparkly nails, but I’m actually into it for this upcoming season.  It’s time to get all glitzy and girly, so why not?  If you’re having trouble deciding which color you want, you can go on the OPI website and try on each color on a virtual hand! So much fun.

These color options are great for your next mani and pedi.  The collection comes out on November 24, so prices aren’t listed yet.  These new colors will attract an audience all holiday season long!

A Blast From The Past

It’s time to spice up your nails – but from the past – and continue the Fall military trend.  You might be one to stick to the same old Essie ballet slipper or wicked, but why not try something new and cool for your next polish change?

Nars Cosmetics just came out with a limited edition Vintage Nail Polish Collection in 5 colors: Mash (army green with gold), King Kong (copper brown infused with gold), Midnight Express (deep navy), Zulu (forrest green), and Full Metal Jacket (gunmetal grey).  If you want to continue that never-ending military trend, go for Mash or Zulu.  All of these colors are cool options: Mash is my favorite.  What’s your favorite color?

Why is this called the Vintage Collection?  Because Francois Nars decided to take some of the older colors of the company and make them cool and hipper for a limited time.

Each bottle is available on the Nars Cosmetics website for $16. I can’t wait until my next polish change.

Smashbox Disc

As summer tans fade away, we can tell that it will only be getting colder, and our skin will only be getting lighter.  Most love that “right of the beach” looking tan, but unfortunately unless you get something along the lines of a spray tan which can be expensive, you won’t be getting that look.

However, you can make your face look darker at a more reasonable price: purchasing a bronzer.  Smashbox came out with a bronzer disc containing 5 hot shades of gold, pink, and brown that are perfect for a variety of skin colors.

The great part about this compact is that you not only can use it for your cheeks but for your lids (as an eyeshadow) as well – you’re getting your money’s worth.

This disc is available on the Sephora website for $30.  As the website says, “the options are endless, so go ahead and play.”
