I rang in 2013 in probably the most low-key fashion ever. We usually go to a big party at our club in Palm Beach, but this year we decided to have a small dinner party at home with our close family and friends. My mom made a great dinner comprised of fillet, spinach with golden raisins and [three] other vegetable dishes, in addition to warm bread and an array of desserts, including cranberry meringue pie and chocolate chip brownies. In terms of decor, we added some New Year’s Eve party assortment for a touch of festivity–my favorites are the hats!

I loved watching the ball drop in Times Square via the coverage of Ryan Seacrest on ABC, as it’s our classic way of counting down to the New Year.

So enjoy the first day of 2013, and let’s make it a fabulous year!

I’ve taken the past couple of days to travel back in time via Style Solutions, and 2012 was a great year. Some of my most exciting and favorite accomplishments, moments, and whereabouts occurred this past year, so join me in revisiting a few of them. First, I want to say a tramendous thank you to the over 45 celebrities, designers and stylists who I interviewed in 2012.

There are some occasions when getting dressed up during the day is a given. On days such as Christmas, and more specifically when in Palm Beach or other places of warm climate, I like to keep my outfits within a light color pallet, as it creates a fresh look. This skirt was the perfect option for Christmas Day brunch, and I’m still in shock as to where I purchased it. I’m not a huge vintage or consignment store shopper whatsoever, but when spotting it in the window of Second Time Around, a consignment shop in the Upper East Side, I gave in to trying it on, and then purchasing it for a mere $80. Tangerine has been quite the popular color this year, and I like how it evokes a tint of rose-gold. But since I wore it mostly during the daytime, and intend to further do so, I dressed it down with a simple white oversized blouse, but still played on the glamour of the sequin embellishment by incorporating my jewel platform sandals, a chunky cocktail ring and metallic clutch, both of which were on sale.

Merry Christmas From Style Solutions!

IMG_6369

Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas Style Solutions readers!

I’m celebrating with my family in Palm Beach through New Years, and I couldn’t be happier to be here. Although not a typical white Christmas (minus the fake snow showers from 5-6 outside of Saks Fifth Avenue on Worth Avenue), I’ve always celebrated the holidays when I was young here, so keeping up with this tradition is quite the treat.

IMG_6370

We woke up at the crack of dawn and sat by our fireplace to open presents (Santa was fab this year!). I love how there’s no pressure on Christmas morning but to simply sit in your PJs and be with family–panettone and coffee makes for the perfect Christmas morning treat.

And in a few hours, we’ll get dressed up and go to a Christmas Day brunch at our club, which never disappoints.

Decorating my family Christmas tree is one of my favorite traditions leading up to the holidays. From old ornaments to those new, each one was purchased with a purpose and brings a little holiday spice to our home. My newest ornament is ba-nan-as…and so maj. That’s right–it’s a glittering, glam ornament designed by Rachel Zoe, which is part of Christopher Radko’s new celebrity-designed holiday ornament collection. The black with multicolored infused sequin bauble screams Rachel, so I was super excited to put it on the tree.

While the build up towards the holidays is always fun, festive, and exciting, there’s nothing like celebrating Christmas in real time. I always miss the little joys of Christmas following the holiday, like watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, passing the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree while walking down Fifth Avenue, listening to non-stop Christmas music on the radio, and so much more. So tonight, take some time to sit by your tree in your comfiest PJs, catch one of those last Christmas movies on ABC family…and simply enjoy. After all, ’tis the season to be jolly.

Sydney’s Gingerbread House

In Holiday on December 23, 2012 at 10:51 AM

IMG_6281

With Christmas quickly approaching, making a gingerbread house felt like the perfect activity this weekend. I love working on festive projects that test my creativity, so why not get a little messy in the name of red and green? There are a few simple steps that make this process doable.

For starters, instead of building the gingerbread house myself, I get one that is pre-made since I’m definitely a better decorator than I am a builder.

Screen Shot 2012-12-22 at 11.09.17 PM

Next, gather your materials in an organized fashion. On one side of my table sat my tube of frosting, a towel, an apron, and a spreading knife. On the other side, in individual containers, were festive assortments of candy and red and green frosting.

IMG_6298

IMG_6307

I decided to frost the roof of my gingerbread house half red and half green, and mixed both shades with white to create a more pastel-looking hue. But the most exciting part is deciding how you’re going to arrange the candy. I decided to think in the perspective of a fashion designer who’s embellishing a dress.

I wanted my design to be uniformed on both sides, and even incorporated some trends candy-style, like stars and polka dots.  But again, this is your chance to get creative, so play around!

IMG_6303

IMG_6304

IMG_6300

Lastly, instead of attempting to draw a door with icing, I iced on a Christmas tree cookie, which made for the perfect finishing touch.

Sydney’s Favorite Homemade Holiday Cookies

In Food, Holiday on December 19, 2012 at 12:00 AM

IMG_6185

I’ve always had a sweet tooth, but boy does it come into full swing during the holiday season! There’s something so festive and special about holiday cookies that I insist on my mom making them every year–because mom’s touch is always the best. But most importantly, they’re just purely delicious.

IMG_6206

IMG_6189

You can never go wrong with classic gingerbread men, but we gave a little spin to ours with sprinkle “embellishments.” I also savor sugar cookies in a variety of shapes, including stockings, Christmas trees, and music notes. Their simplicity is topped with beautifully colored sugars and holiday theme decorations.

Lastly, and a rather new addition to our cookie making and decorating, are stained-glass biscotti’s (recipe here), which make for a great hostess gift when placed in a festive box, like these from the Container Store.

For the inner hip Mrs. Claus, wearing red during the holiday season is always classic. It’s not a color that I particularly own a lot of, but I make a great effort at this time of year to invest in a few key pieces, as red truly adds the perfect punch of festivity. These leggings are a fun combination of holiday and edge, so they’re super easy to dress up or down depending on the occasion.

Pairing them with this lady-like (almost peplum) structured jacket with minimal but statement-making bead embellishment added just the right amount of glamour, in addition to these uniquely shaped booties, which even captured the attention of The New York Times’ Bill Cunningham. Now that’s a New York moment.

The holiday season is the best time of year to add extra special decorative items to your home. I always think of sparkles and glitter when it comes to the holidays, so finding kitsch pieces to spread in doses is something that I truly enjoy–like my new “Hollywood” Nutcracker  that is a classic holiday symbol, yet with a modern and trendy twist. I also have quite the obsession with candles, so when my mom gave me the one above covered in glitter, I was so excited. The glitter doesn’t stop here–even my poinsettias are topped with sparkles, in addition to my mini Christmas tree table-top pieces that add an element of elegance and glamour to any holiday dinner party. Tomorrow night, my family and I will decorate our 9-foot Christmas tree, but we decided to get a head start yesterday eve and began putting the lights, which is always quite the challenge. In the midst of struggling, I enjoyed indulging in a box of some of our new ornaments (we add to our collection every year), which will add the ultimate pop of color to our tree.

The collaboration I’ve been waiting for is here!–Neiman Marcus x Target. The collection features 24 CFDA designers who created a Netflix range of 50 holiday products that allowed the designers to create merchandise outside of their usual turf. Par example, Oscar de la Renta pet supplies, Jason Wu kid dresses, and Rag & Bone home wares, just to name a few. Consisting of clothes, accessories, home goods, gadgets, and seriously so much more (from skateboards to wrapping paper), the collection is so much better than even I hoped for. Starting at just $7.99, there’s something in this collection for everyone, including more than two handfuls for yourself.

Available at all Target and Neiman Marcus stores, as well as online, it’s time to get on your holiday shopping if you haven’t, and making your very own wish list as well!

Chocolate Dipped Almonds: A Holiday Hostess Gift

In Food, Holiday on December 6, 2012 at 12:21 AM

IMG_5852

Holiday parties are at their peak, bringing fun and festivities to the holiday season.

Whenever I attend a party, I like to bring a hostess gift–a little something that shows my appreciation for being invited and the work that one has put into it.

While there’s nothing like bringing a Diptyque candle, a kitsch tabletop item from C.Wonder, or simply a bottle of wine, there are some instances when bringing something unique, and [somewhat] homemade, makes for a fresh take on gifting.

My favorite go-to? Boxes of chocolate-dipped almonds from The Chocolate Moose, a local candy store in Pittsburgh, PA; quite frankly the only store that makes them just right.

IMG_5847

I love the combination of nuts and chocolate (except peanuts–I’m allergic!) because it adds an element of sweet “surprise” to something that is typically healthy. You can customize the color/type of chocolate for each gift, adding a personal touch.

Whether in theme of the holidays (blue and white, or green and red, depending on what you celebrate) or the color of your hostess’ home, these almonds will be a delicious holiday treat.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012

In Holiday on December 5, 2012 at 12:00 AM

102565_d0813‘Twas the sexiest night on television–and even that is an understatement. Last night, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show aired on CBS, an evening full of pink, sparkles, glee, glam, and holiday joy. The show gets better and better each year, between the super chic and incredible lingere, models, and performing guests. The singers who graced the catwalk this year? Justin Bieber (which one of these angels had some major Bieber fever? Karlie Kloss ), Bruno Mars, and Rihanna. Some of the themes of this year’s ensembles included the opening “Circus’ and “Calendar Girls.” Wondering who graced the front row? Different than NYFW, with Alexander Wang, Vanessa Hudges, Kid Cudi, Derek Blasberg Alexa Chung, Tyson Beckford, and more.

Thanks to the Victoria’s Secret Angels who always make the holidays super festive, sexy, and chic–all one strut at a time.

Then there are those comfortable and bold pajamas that make snuggling in my ottoman chair (spiced up with a sparkly pillow) or in my  bed while watching a Christmasy movie (The Family Stone and National Lampoon Christmas Vacation are my favorites) the ultimate activity.

Adding to this warmth is the help of some peppermint tea and a splurging of cinnamon sugar marshmallows as a light but super fulfilling bite…and after that, a few Lindt balls that melt in your mouth like chocolate perfection.

So while being out and about is a great time, there are some evenings during this time of year when staying at home feels just right.

Rockefeller Tree Lighting & Hot Cocoa Delight

In Food, Holiday on November 28, 2012 at 12:00 AM

This evening will mark the 80th anniversary of the world famous Christmas tree lighting in Rockefeller Center. The event is spectacular every year, whether daring enough to freeze go to it in person, or simply watch it on TV in the comfort of your home. It’s a tradition to watch it at home with my family, and it truly kicks off the holiday season.

This year’s performances are definitely ones to look forward to, with a line-up including Mariah Carey (All I Want For Christmas Is You is one of my favorite songs to play on the piano), CeeLo Green, Il Volo, Rod Stewart, Victoria Justice, Trace Adkins, and Chris Mann.

There’s nothing like a sweet treat while watching some good old entertainment, and to play along with the holiday theme, why not a Christmasy hot chocolate? This, might I add, is not any typical hot chocolate. In addition to using Hershey’s genuine chocolate syrup, try adding crushed chocolate chips for the ultimate chocolatey delight. And to go all-out, go to your local supermarket and pick up some Jet-Puffed peppermint marshmallows for a candy cane-like topping–toasting them will give the ultimate, warm, gooey, and just plain old delicious effect.

As if you needed any more sweet treats, I like munching on something crunchy, so a small gingerbread snap cookie is the perfect way to go.

What’s your favorite hot chocolate recipe?

Skyfall Fashion–James Bond Style

In Accessories, Holiday on November 27, 2012 at 12:00 AM

James Bond is one of my favorite movie series–the glamour and intrigue of a day in the life of a spy are some of what I love most. Then there are those sharply dressed men with dreamy accents and steely gazes, both of which have yet to fail in capturing our attention, imagination, and for some, our hearts. The confidence that the James Bond character portrays is universally attractive. Therefore gentlemen, take this as a little inspiration to step up your personal style games! And ladies, here’s where you come in. Since the movie has come out just in time for the holidays and holiday shopping (Hollywood, you did good), it’s the perfect time to tie in our Bond-fever into the season of gifting.

Below are some gift ideas to give the men in your life (be it your boyfriend, or simply just a friend) a little hint of 007’s edge. With these presents, you’ll add some sophistication and sex appeal without any danger. And if you haven’t nailed a seat at the movie theater yet, definitely catch it before it’s out of theaters–it really is great.

Sydney’s Thanksgiving Dinner Decor

In Decor, Holiday on November 23, 2012 at 12:00 AM

There’s nothing like a warm and cozy environment for Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends.

Along with my mom’s homemade food comes seasonal decor, always glamorous, colorful, elegant, and festive. This year, we decided to go with metallics, pops of autumn leave shades, floral arrangements, and touches of personalization, such as translucent name tags for seating assignments and menus.

I love to enjoy my surroundings at the fullest, especially with the company of my family and friends, eating (or rather devouring) my mom’s delicious food, catching up on funny and new stories with friends since a tot, and ultimately focusing on giving thanks, relaxing, and just being together with the people that truly make me most happy.

I hope you had a great holiday and got to experiment with your inner Martha Stewart!

Happy Thanksgiving Style Solutions readers! I am so happy to be in NYC, celebrating one of my favorite holidays at home with my family and friends. We have about 15 people coming over for dinner this evening, where there will be lots and lots of food. Leggings are especially useful on this holiday–no need to feel suffocated in a tight dress, pants, or skirt when wanting to enjoy a delicious, festive meal. I still like to be dressed for the occasion, so wearing warm, holiday colors, like burgundy, a baroque print, and a tux-style jacket help to glamour up while still feeling comfortable.

So put on your most comfortable yet stylish outfit, catch Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV (it’s a tradition in my home–what’s your favorite float?), eat lots of food without guilt (although I must admit I’m catching a Soul Cycle ride this AM), and just enjoy the holiday. But don’t forget–tomorrow is Black Friday, so get ready to shop ’til you drop (the sales are unreal)–now that’s exercising.

Black Friday 2012 Sales Guide

In Holiday on November 19, 2012 at 12:14 AM

The thought of getting out of bed at the crack of dawn the Friday morning after Turkey Day is…well…unappealing and laughable. But to your fashionable advantage, this is not the day to press snooze, as Black Friday brings the best sales of the year. Come November 23, I’ll be running to Saks Fifth Avenue for my annual shopping trip, but this year with a little advantage–a personal shopping space as I’m hunting for two very special dresses. So while I hit the department store, hopefully not running into as many crowds this way, below are some of my recommendations for Black Friday sales happening nationwide.

Saks Fifth Avenue: Run to your closest Saks ladies and gents, because you’ll be able to stock up on items for him and her for 40-50% off, and take an additional 50% off sale items. Make sure to hit the high-end sales racks, like Missoni and Jason Wu. Also, you’ll receive a $25 Saks gift card if you spend $100 or more in cosmetics or fragrances. After noon, you’ll get an additional 10% off sale merchandise if you use a Saks credit card. This is more than a double whammy.

Nordstrom: Stop by Nordstrom’s for pre-sales of the latest collections from Prada, McQueen and Michael Kors. And, you’ll be able to score clothes, shoes, and accessories galore at a price that will make you and your wallets satisfied.

H&M: Find fall fashions starting at just $5. The first 100 people in line at H&M stores will get scratch-off tickets valued up to $300.

Opening Ceremony: Score 30 to 40% off collections, including Opening Ceremony, Band of Outsiders, Juun J, Mary Katranzou, Carven, Jeremy Scott x Adidas, PushBUTTON, Goen J, and Jean Paul Gaultier. The list of brands doesn’t get better than this.

AllSaints: Shop select merchandise at 20% off, like biker boots and holiday dresses for $220. Hello holiday season!

Sephora: Shop Sephora’s $10 One Day Wonders, which include cosmetic packs from brands like Stila, Tarte, Lorac, and Buxom. You’ll have the ultimate glow.

J.Crew: Shop the entire store for half off. Yup…amazing!

Target: Receive special prices on everything, from clothes to electronics, with additional 5% off everything if you use a REDcard.

Barneys & Disney’s Electric Holiday

In Holiday on November 16, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Holiday window gazing in New York City is one of my favorite aspects of the holiday season in my hometown, especially at the likes of haute department stores. Last night, Barneys New York unveiled its holiday masterpiece at its Madison Avenue flagship, who this year teamed up Disney. I was so excited to hear the news because last year I was obsessed with Gaga’s Workshop. With this collaboration, the two created an animated short film entitled Electric Holiday, which will be played on a continuous loop on the store’s facade. The characters are all fashioned-up, like Minnie Mouse, who does some serious shopping of her own, lusting over designer pieces such as a red Lanvin frock. Soon after, she’s lost in a stylish daydream which takes her to Paris Fashion Week (gasp!), where she meets the animated versions of fashion’s biggest stars, like Cathy Horn, Carine Roitfeld, and Sarah Jessica Parker. And not to mention, how could one resist Goofy strutting down the runway in Balmain, or Cruella de Vil working her Rick Owens.

Indulge in some sneak peek photos of my favorite animated characters and the Electric Holiday video–this is going to be one fashionable and jolly holiday season.

Sydney’s Halloween Table

In Holiday on October 25, 2012 at 11:59 PM

Halloween is just around the corner, and I’ve been excited to indulge in the festivities since the beginning of October. There are so many fun aspects of the holiday, like dressing up, carving pumpkins, watching spooky movies and going trick or treating. But since the holiday is just a few days away, I thought I’d show a glimpse of how me and my family decorates our dining room table in celebration of the holiday.

And if you haven’t noticed, we love all-things sweet and glittery.

Sydney’s Patriotic Ensemble

In Holiday, On Sydney on July 4, 2012 at 12:06 AM

Shirt: Miss Edge via Ruby & Jenna, Shorts: J Brand, Shoes: Valentino

Happy Fourth of July, Style Solutions readers!

Holidays allow us to experiment with theme dressing, which can definitely be a challenge, especially since on this holiday we’re limited to red, white and blue. However, I also like to spice up my patriotic palette with a trendy metallic. You want to be fun and festive–not reminiscent of a Halloween costume.

To create a balanced outfit, I mixed some pieces from my closet (shorts and shoes) with a pair of themed sunglasses and some necklaces that I picked up at a random party store, and a t-shirt that I scored for just $18 at a boutique in the Hamptons.

You don’t want to spend a lot of money for a once-a-year outfit, so combining what you already own with some inexpensive accessories makes for the ultimate ensemble.

So enjoy the day’s traditions, be it a family BBQ, hanging out at the beach with friends, watching fireworks, or just enjoying your day off by sitting in the cool AC!

Happy Mother’s Day fashionistas!

Whether celebrating by bringing mom breakfast in bed, going out for lunch, getting manicures and pedicures together, or doing a fun activity, it’s most important to make your mom feel like today is her day. My family celebrates by going to a beautiful Mother’s Day brunch at our club in Palm Beach.

It’s the last big event before it closes for the season, so we enjoy seeing everyone and indulging in the incredible buffet. My brother and I then surprise her with presents and cards once we get back to our PB home before getting ready to go back to NYC this afternoon.

So in honor of Mother’s Day, below are 25 things you don’t know about mommy & me.

Sydney’s Easter Galore

In Decor, Holiday on April 8, 2012 at 12:07 AM

Happy Easter, Style Solutions readers! I decided to go ultra-festive and colorful for the holiday by decorating an Easter-themed table. Getting creative with my favorite neon trend in the world of dêcor allowed me to shop stores that I’m not typically found in. The majority of my supplies are from Crate and Barrel, where I found great deals on candlestick holders, cake dishes, cups, glass eggs (mini and big), felt bunnies, a placemat and candy holders. Mixed in with the big glass eggs are homemade ones that I decorated with paint and glitter, which is an Easter tradition. Also on the table are candlesticks from Gracious Home, sugar sticks from Dylan’s Candy Bar (bad for your teeth, but so good!), jellybeans and plastic eggs (both from Duane Reade), vintage eggs from Norway, homemade Easter cakes in shapes of rabbits, tulips and butterflies, and of course Peeps.

Stylish and Delicious St. Patrick’s Day Treats

In Food, Holiday on March 17, 2012 at 12:00 AM

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Style Solutions readers! NYC is typically crazy on this day of the year; bars are filled to capacity, streets are crowded due to the parade along 5th Avenue and there is a whole lot of green.

I’m all about showing holiday spirit through an outfit, but this does not mean that every item we wear on St. Patrick’s Day has to only be green or just one shade. Take advantage of this season’s pastel trend by going for some mint hues and combining them with complementary pastels; it will make for a celebratory and chic look.

1. Nine West $89, 2. Essie $8, 3. Romwe, 4. Topshop $18, 5. Zara, 6. Proenza Schouler $198, 7. Fossil $61, 8. Equipment $250, 9. RAIN $72,  10. Proenza Schouler, 11. Shiseido $33,  12. Matiko Echo $193

I also love a delicious St. Patrick’s Day dinner; corn-beef, cabbage, Irish soda bread..the whole 9 yards. My mom is a great cook and will make a themed dinner later in the week, but until then I am mouthwatering over this mint chocolate chip cookie recipe and this homemade mint Oreo recipe.

Sydney’s Valentines Day Dinner

In Holiday on February 15, 2012 at 5:54 PM

How was your Valentines Day, Style Solutions readers? Mine was low-key, relaxing, and sweet. My family always has a Valentines Day dinner, so I came home to my dinner table being decked out in holiday theme. On top of our gold table cloth were white napkins with red crystal napkin rings, beautifully lit candles, fresh roses with conversation hearts on the vase’s base (they’re my favorite), a fun and semi-healthy drink for the non-drinkers (cranberry juice mixed with sparkling water and floating raspberries), cards, and boxes of Godiva chocolate with a chocolate lollipop on top.

I just finished celebrating the final day of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week by attending Milly by Michele Smith’s show. It’s been such a blast; keep your eyes out for a few more video clips from the shows.

Look No Further Than Your Movies For Valentines Day Gifts

In Holiday on February 6, 2012 at 4:27 PM

The next two weeks are crazy busy! Between Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, a best friend coming to visit, my birthday party, and Valentines Day to going to Miami, there is so much to do!

It seems as though February is a busy month for many, but despite our booked calendars, we must put in some time for buying our Valentine (if we have one) a present. Listen up boys, this post is directed to you.

I don’t think there is anything better than a piece of jewelry for Valentines Day, although some flowers, a box of chocolate and a sentimental card are a nice addition too.

Whether you want to spend $20, $100, or $500, there are many options to choose from. Above is a fabulous movie-themed jewelry guide courtesy of The Promotion Factory.

Jewelry and romantic comedies have co-existed seamlessly as Valentine’s Day gifts for a long time for good reason.

A simple breakdown of classic tearjerkers and perfect gifts for every stage of your relationship should make this February 14th a breeze.  You may also want to pick up the DVD for a fun night in.

Another piece of jewelry that women love are watches. You can find ones at various price points that are in the Valentines Day color pallet and will make your Valentine fall head over heels!

Watches (L-R): Glam Rock watches, Girard-Perregaux, Frederique Constant, Breil, BCBG

Get ready gents-it’s time to bring out your romantic side.

From Wintery New York City To Sunny Palm Beach

In Holiday on December 26, 2011 at 9:35 AM

It’s been so nice celebrating Christmas at home in New York City. From lit sweet plum Diptyque holiday candles and warm chocolate fondue with old friends to fun and entertaining shows, it’s been a real treat.  However, I’m so ready to get out of my furs, boots, and wintery accessories for a week and head to sunny Palm Beach.

Before packing my outfits in my suitcase, I like to lay them on the floor so that I can style each look with shoes, jewelry, and other accessories. I am very excited for my Palm Beach wardrobe: a few pieces that I bought in the Hamptons Memorial Day weekend, some that I bought in LA in July, and many brand new pieces that I invested in just this month that I’ll be wearing for the first time. Lots of bright pink and orange hues, oversized jewelry, colorful clutches, and many, many shoes.

For those heading somewhere warm, remember, this is your one chance to try and avoid black.

If you must wear black clothes, brighten them up with some fun and colorful accessories.  Neons are the best.

Time to get ready and finish packing my travel bag.

Next post…from Palm Beach!

Battle Of The Christmas Trees

In Holiday on December 25, 2011 at 3:44 PM

How has your Christmas Day been, Style Solutions readers? It’s been so nice to relax with family, eating holiday food, and opening presents.  My mom made a delicious brunch this morning: poached eggs, chocolate chip cake, orange juice, and fruit salad.

After this week, Christmas trees and decorations will be taken down, which is never fun to watch because holiday decor truly makes a room beautiful.  One of my favorite Christmas trees this year is at The Plaza Hotel.  Haute fashion designer, Betsey Johnson, designed the 18-inch tree, which is barely green! The tree is completely girly, Betsey’s style, with pink galore: feathers, sparkles, and Eloise (the Plaza’s most famous fictional resident and character) paper dolls throughout. Betsey even has a store in the shopping area of the hotel, which is fun to browse and shop in.

My Christmas tree might not be pink, but it is filled with beautiful decorations and bright lights!

Merry Christmas!

In Holiday, On Sydney on December 25, 2011 at 1:13 AM

Merry Christmas Style Solutions readers! It’s time to get by your fireplace and Christmas tree in your most comfortable yet stylish pajamas to open up your presents! I love waking up on Christmas morning, looking out to Central Park. Although I love a “white Christmas”, NYC experienced a blizzard last year, so not seeing snow this time around isn’t so bad.

Christmas day is the perfect time to stay in and watch your favorite holiday movies until next year. My plan is to watch The Family Stone, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I also love to snuggle up on my couch with a warm cup of hot chocolate and indulge in a great book. I just started Hilary Duff’s Devoted, and I can’t wait to continue it today.

As I was going home from Christmas Eve dinner at Petrossian last night, I wanted to take pictures at two of my favorite holiday decorations this year: the giant Christmas lights and giant nutcrackers in front of UBS, both on the Avenue of Americas.

This area of the city was absolutely packed, which on most days can be extremely annoying, but with the Upper East Side being almost silent, this was the loudness and crowdedness that I was craving.

Enjoy darlings–I can’t wait to hear about your presents!

Sydney’s Night Before Christmas Eve Outfit

In Holiday, On Sydney on December 24, 2011 at 9:38 AM

I can’t believe that tonight is Christmas Eve. It feels as though we prepare and plan so much for something that lasts for just one day; but, that’s the fun of it.  The stores were packed late last night, especially at Bloomingdales.  The majority of the shoppers were men -getting in some last minute shopping- and it was sweet watching them figure out what to buy.

It’s crazy to be shopping when Christmas day is tomorrow, but the sales have been too good to pass up.

I spent the majority of my day in hair and nail salons, so it felt good to walk around NoHo and the stores in the area before heading to dinner. As you can see, my hair is not straight as per usual–after watching my friend fix her hair emergency for hours, one of the other hairdressers decided to experiment with a curling iron on me.

It worked with the outfit, but I definitely like my hair straight–I do not want have the Carrie Bradshaw from the early 80’s look.

I wore my new Zara sweater (I’m absolutely obsessed with it-the soft color pallet with metallic pipping makes it look much more expensive that it actually is), American Apparel leggings, Via Spiga boots, Aqua [faux] fur vest, Chanel handbag, earrings from a trunk show in Palm Beach, Ray-Bans, J.Crew cocktail ring, and my brand new Ippolita bangles that I went completely head-over-heels for when I received them the other day–rose gold is my favorite color hardware.

I’m going to be out all day today, so my outfit is going to have to be stylish while functional.  Time to take a trip to my closet! But most importantly, enjoy your Christmas: dress festive, indulge in holiday food, and have fun with the traditions you follow!

Before you know it, you’ll be opening presents by the chimney.

Sydney’s 55 Degree Ensemble In December

In Holiday, On Sydney on December 23, 2011 at 12:15 AM

55 degrees in late December? Unbelievable!  Although super strange, yesterday was the perfect day for me to bring out some of my favorite pieces that look wintery but are lighter fabrics.

I’ve been taking advantage of having some time to relax this week, so my day was very low-key: lunch at Bar Italia (same salad as always), some errands along Lexington Avenue, the re-take photo shoot for my family’s holiday card, and then a holiday party at my dad’s office.

I wore my new Zara short-sleeve blouse with an adorable cheetah collar that I received for Hannukah the other night, Myne shorts, a Barneys CO-OP [faux] fur jacket, Topshop tights, Via Spiga boots, Velvet Eyewear shades, a C.Wonder messenger bag that I purchased a few months ago with my good friend, Hannah, and my new set of J.Crew crystal-embellished bangles (an adorable present that my brother bought me) combined with my classic Hermes cuff.

Today is “beauty day” for Palm Beach, and then dinner at Butter.  I think I’m going to wear something glittery and ultra fun.

I can’t believe that tomorrow is already Christmas Eve!

Time flies by so fast and I cannot wait to celebrate by going to see The Radio City Rockettes, as per tradition, and having dinner at Petrossian.

What are your plans for Christmas eve?

Happy Hanukah!

In Holiday on December 22, 2011 at 8:44 AM

I celebrate Hanukah and Christmas, so I like to think I get the best of the holidays. I love the special traditions they both entail; from potato latkes and lighting the menorah to decorating a gingerbread house and a christmas tree.

On the first night of Hannukah, we had a Hannukah-themed dinner at our home: sparkly dreidels hanging off candles in blue and silver, a glass pyramid-looking menorah with funky blue candles, raspberry jelly donuts, latkes with every topping imaginable, brisket, asparagus, menorah-shaped bread, chocolate coins, berries with light whipped cream, sparkly napkins, and presents.

There are 6 nights of Hanukah left including tonight–you still have time for some last minute shopping!

The Kardashian’s Christmas Card

In Holiday on December 21, 2011 at 8:50 AM

Part of what I love about this time of year is receiving holiday cards. I love looking at the outfits, the location of the photograph, the theme, if there is one, and even the card’s color pallet.  While some families choose to make their cards nice and simple, others tend to go all out.  One family?  The Kardashians

Every Kardashian in this Christmas card looks exquisite. I love how Kris Jenner pops the black and white tuxedo theme with a stunning sequin aqua dress; but, Kim’s Rachel Zoe blazer is to die for.  The shoot took place at Kris and Bruce’s home, photos taken by photographer, Nick Saglimbeni.

Below are some of my favorite behind-the-scene photos from the Kardashian photo shoot. (courtesy of khloekardashian.celebuzz.com)

Sydney Interviews Jewelry Designer, Jamie Wolf

In Holiday, Interview/Personal Appearance on December 19, 2011 at 7:46 AM

Ballet dancer turned jewelry designer, Jamie Wolf knows how to be successful in more than just one field.  From a dancer in Black Swan to designing Natalie Portman’s engagement ring, Jamie has made it big in the biz–it’s her brand’s 10th year anniversary!  She has suggested some stunning pieces for the holidays, and cannot wait to continue her partnership with New York City Ballet.  Read on, as below is my interview with Jamie.

S: How did you go from being a dancer to a jewelry designer?

J: It was a really fluid transition for me. When I was a dancing for New York City Ballet, designing jewelry was my hobby. My influences change each season, but I always begin with clean shapes.

S: How does your jewelry reflect your personal style?

J: My personal style is reflected in the details of each piece. I create pieces I would wear. I also always think of my customer — it’s important to me for clients to be able to wear my designs in their own way and make them part of their individual style.

S: You designed Natalie Portman’s wedding ring. Details!!!

J: Benjamin Millepied, Natalie’s fiance, is a friend and former colleague of mine (we danced together at New York City Ballet). I worked with Benjamin on the ring design — he wanted to surprise Natalie.

S: How have you developed such a great celebrity following?

J: A mix of an incredibly supportive group of editors, stylists, and celebrities.

S: What are some pieces in your collection that you recommend as holiday gifts?

J: In celebration of my brand’s tenth anniversary, I partnered with New York City Ballet and created a Signature Collection with fifty percent of the proceeds benefitting NYCB’s fundraising campaign, Turn Out.  The collection is sold in our online boutique.

S: What are two gifts that you would love to receive for the holidays this year?

J: A Bottega Veneta iPad case and a vacation somewhere warm!

What a freezing and busy day in the city! My day started off with brunch at ABC Kitchen, and I was surprisingly quite disappointed.  Although the ambiance was beautiful (rustic meets glamour) and the concord grape and chocolate glazed donuts were out of this world, the service was extremely poor and the food was a little below average.  I did run into Eva Chen, though, Beauty Director of Teen Vogue, which was a nice surprise in and of itself.

I then headed to the Nutcracker, one of my favorite holiday performances.  It is elegant, classic, and gets better every year. I especially love the candy scene- it’s so beautiful and delicious!  The rest of the day entailed walking around, running into some familiar faces, and checking out some new spots at Grand Central Station: Vince Camuto and the Apple Store.

After being submersed in the bright Vince Camuto resort shoes, I felt this urge for bright resort accessories as everyone around me was in black, black, black!  Above are my favorite colorful accessories for cruise all under $250.

Sydney’s Favorite Christmas Tree Ornaments

In Holiday on December 16, 2011 at 12:33 AM

With Christmas weekend just a week away, holiday spirit is in the air more than ever.  I’m excited to go on vacation for the next two weeks, enjoying the festivities of my favorite season here in NYC, and then heading off to Palm Beach New Years week for some fun in the sun.

My family and I decorated our tree this evening to a warm lit fireplace and holiday music in the background. I get so excited to revisit my ornaments each year as they are all sparkly, beautiful, fun, and charming.

My favorite ornaments include my Christian Louboutin pumps, sparkly Christmas tree, Radio City Music Hall rockette, stack of presents and more.

I’m also loving the iPad, and can’t wait to [hopefully] receive it for the holidays.

Some of my favorite apps that I have just downloaded are Pose, which is great for bloggers, Words With Friends (completely addictive–I’d love Alec Baldwin to be my partner), Elle Astrology Daily (a fabulous horoscope, which is almost always accurate), Instagram (perfect for taking cool pictures), and Tiny Wings, a silly game, just to name a few.

To go with these fabulous pieces of technology, you need a great case to go with it–something fashionable and practical.

This is part II of my interview with Boy Meets Girl® Founder,  Stacy Igel.  Read on for her love of the holidays, a funky holiday party look, her new reality show, and more!

S: Let’s chat stocking stuffers!

SI:
My ideal stocking would be filled with all Boy Meets Girl®,  obviously!  One great item is the Boy Meets Girl® pin to dazzle your holiday sweaters!
Check out our holiday gift guide for more ideas.

S: What’s the ideal Boy Meets Girl® holiday outfit?

SI: For the holidays, warmth is key.  I love layering this season and think this look is great for any holiday party: Layer one of my favorites,
the Missing Pieces Romper, with the Sanctuary Top over or under Boy Meets Girl® tights, and 2 pairs of socks from the Three’s a Charm Anklet. This outfit will look great with one of my favorite boots of the season from Seychelles featured here. If it’s super chilly, you can layer a vintage [faux] fur jacket or vest for some holiday texture.

tights $18

S: What do you love most about the holidays?

SI: Spending time with my friends and family, the city becoming a winter wonderland, and lots of hot drinks!

S: Your new reality show launched yesterday! Details!!

SI:
Yes I am the  host & co-producer of a web series on Lockerz.com called “Behind The Seams” with Stacy Igel!
The first episode of the eight-episode series premiered exclusively on Lockerz yesterday! New episodes will air through January 17, 2012.
I am very exited for you all to check it out!

S: What’s next for Boys Meets Girl®?

SI: I’d like our website’s e-commerce platform to become one of the most sophisticated yet user-friendly direct sales platforms in fashion.  Of course, retail is crucial to our success and we want to continue to have a strong presence in key boutiques and department stores. I’d also like to have a larger international presence– I think we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface there.  The brand is iconic enough now to begin doing that slowly and smartly.

S: How did you get into the fashion biz?

SI: I told my Mom at age 4 that I would only wear dresses to nursery school; I dressed my pre–K classmates and staged fashion shows from my school cafeteria. My mom was an entrepreneur and I definitely inherited that from her. I had no family in the fashion biz, so I learned everything from the ground up, and I would never change that experience because it is how I am where I am today.

S: How did the name Boys Meets Girl® come about?

SI: The first time I met my husband’s parents was for dinner at their apartment-they were giving me a tour and I noticed a picture frame containing silhouettes of their three children from when they were younger.  My parents had a similar picture of my sister and I. I thought about us and how we still both had these young, playful, carefree versions of ourselves inside of us. I knew right then and there my brand would be called Boy Meets Girl® and that I’d use our silhouettes for the logo.  The logo driven product came first and we have been growing the collection organically from there.

S: What are some holiday gifts from your line that you recommend for a shopper who is on a budget?

$9

SI:
My new intimates are great gifts for a shopper on a budget as they retail for $9 a piece.

$18

The Three’s A Charm Anklet Sock are great because you get 3 socks in the pack and can play all week creating different looks.
I am also obssesed with my new slipper collection recently featured in Lucky; they are Ashley Herbet’s favorites!

In Holiday on December 8, 2011 at 8:20 PM

nanette lepore, bergorf goodman

This is the perfect time of year to bring out some of your favorite holiday recipes.  Today was the first day of the season in which a hat, scarf, gloves, thick tights, and a heavy jacket was needed.  When the temperatures are low like today, I crave delicious comfort foods and drinks, especially those that are holiday themed like peppermint hot chocolate, eggnog, panettone and gingerbread men.

candy girl by nanette lepore sketch

This year, fashion designer, Nanette Lepore, has graced us with her gingerbread men recipe available at Bergdrofs.  Plus, on the top floor of the lovely department store, chicly-dressed Candy Girls will be walking the floor sharing tasty samples. The girls are wearing dresses designed by Nanette just for the occasion-chic and sweet.

Get baking fashionistas!  A jolly and sweet dessert awaits!

Snoodle Up!

In Accessories, Holiday on December 8, 2011 at 12:10 AM

1. Piperlime.com, $34
2. J.Crew, $68
3. Kate Spade, $125
4. Topshop, $40
5. Topshop, $40
6. Jacob, $24

Some say bundle up, but I say snoodle up.  Although it’s been more warm than cold this season, I’ve still managed to wear one of my favorite wintery accessories: snoods, also known as tubular neck scarves.  The oversized and somewhat dramatic look of snoods are what make them so appealing to me.

While you can find them in great colors and patterns, they still have a simplicity that can add a special touch to your outfit without taking over the rest of what you’re wearing, unless of course you’d prefer otherwise.

I find that it’s easier to find a great looking snood at a good price versus a “regular” scarf.  This is because scarves tend to be made of various fabrics, and you can tell which ones wear well and those that do not.

Plus, scarves are more about the design and pattern where snoods are more about the actual look.

I have just one snood from Topshop (number 5) and it has lasted me a great amount of time.  It matches with just about everything, since it’s black, and is warm yet not itchy, which is a major pet peeve of mine–itchy scarves, that is.  I love wearing them with anything from my gym clothes to a dressy cocktail dress.

The holidays is a perfect time to get your friends into this haute accessory.  They’re fashionable, different, fun, and you can get a lot of use out of them–a trendy and useful holiday present.  Even celebs like Blake Lively and Lady Gaga and model Chanel Iman are loving them.

Are you ready to snoodle up this winter?  I am!

Sydney Goes “Riveting Rose” For The Met

In Holiday, On Sydney on December 7, 2011 at 12:00 AM

New York City is getting busier as the holidays are getting closer: packed department stores, elbow bumping along Fifth Avenue towards Rockefeller Center and lines to get into restaurants.  So when it was a beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon, I decided to browse my favorite museums instead of my favorite stores.  My go-to?  The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

I don’t know what I love more: indulging in the wonderful exhibitions (I’ve always loved Egyptian art) or nibbling on warm pretzels from the gourmet pretzel stand while sitting on The Met steps afterwards.  There’s something so charming and elegant about The Met, and I always feel like I learn something new every time I’m there.

I wore my Rag & Bone skinny leggings with my 525 America sweater, Aqua [faux] fur vest, Frye boots, Chanel handbag, Velvet Eyewear sunglasses, rose-gold hoops that I bought at a trunk show in Palm Beach last year, and my Topshop snood.

I am spotted just about every day wearing MAC’s “Frou” lipstick, but I decided to switch it up by bringing out the burgundy/deep purple shade from my leggings by wearing a bolder lipstick: MAC Cosmetics‘ “Riveting Rose”, which I seem to only wear once or twice a year.

It has a fabulous frost finish, and it is the holiday season, so what better time than now?  Although it felt nice to wear something different, Frou is definitely where my lips belong.

What’s your bold holiday lip color?

Sydney Interviews SINGER22 Founder, Jon Singer

In Holiday, Interview/Personal Appearance on December 5, 2011 at 12:05 AM

alicia & jon singer

With a huge celebrity following, a list of personal appearances that you’ll beat yourself over if you missed, and a knack for selling the best mix of brands we love while introducing us to those that are up-and-coming, SINGER22 is one of the internet’s most popular fashion destinations.  Jon and Alicia Singer are the powerhouses behind the biz and have talent that cannot be missed.  From the man who knows best, this is part I of my interview with SINGER22 founder, Jon Singer.

S: Husband and wife business teams can bring special challenges.  How do you divide the power?

J: Alicia is the buyer of the women’s side of the business and oversees all of the creative aspects. I handle the operations side of the business and help with the buying of the men’s merchandise with my brother, Adam.  Alicia and I both work on the marketing of SINGER22.com.

S: Do you and Alicia follow trends, or do you create your own?

J: Alicia and I definitely create our own trends. Whenever either of us are on the sales floor of our retail stores or out and about, the customers always want what we are wearing.

S: What is the significance of 22 in SINGER22?

J: The significance of the 22 is pretty simple, it is my lucky number! I was born on the 22nd at 2:22pm.

jon singer, nicole richie, and alicia singer

S: Clearly you have amazing power to be able to create brand recognition.  What’s the process?

J: The process really is just a ton of hard work on all fronts. Alicia has created such a huge following.  I truly believe she is the best buyer and stylist in the business. We also have a huge celebrity clientele [i.e Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, Stephanie Pratt, and The Kardashians] who are on our site daily, checking out what’s new. They also like to check out and see what their fellow celebs are wearing!

S: New York, Los Angeles, and Paris are known as fashion leaders, but East Hills, NY-how do you do it?!

J: We are in such an amazing area. We also live 2 minutes from our offices, warehouses and both of our stores– most of our brands come to our offices to show us their latest collections, since we’re 30 minutes from the city.

Stayed tuned for part II of my interview with Jon tomorrow, where he reveals top holiday gifts, hot denims, the future of shoes and accessories on SINGER22.com, and more!

‘Tis The Season To Be Glittery

In Beauty, Holiday on December 4, 2011 at 3:44 PM

$35, bloomingdales

I was never one of those girls who brought their own nail polish to their nail salon.  I always thought it was strange to pay extra for a polish when it was “included” in your manicure.  Ever since I was little, my grandma would use her one light pink Chanel color, which I never understood considering it looked like Essie’s mademoiselle. But suit herself, she had her ways, and no one could stop her; that’s what I love most.

Now, many years later, I feel as though I’ve fallen into her footsteps, though I do tend to experiment with the polishes I bring rather than sticking to just one color.  I stopped in my nail salon to say hi to a friend earlier this afternoon, and some of the manicurists were complimenting my bedazzled Deborah Lippmann “Happy Birthday” topcoat.

As one said, ’tis the season to be glittery.  So true, and now my favorite line of the season.

Not only is it fun to experiment with glittery top coats, but it’s also nice to wear some classic holiday shades at this time of year such as red.  But whether you’re into red, metallics, glittery topcoats, or just simple black and white, your favorite beauty brands have your back, and have come out with nail polish sets for the holiday season to suit all of our needs (hopefully!)

Might I add, nail polish sets are the perfect holiday gift.  Not too pricey, not too overwhelming; just simple, chic, elegant, thoughtful, and fun.

They are also great stocking stuffers, since they are small yet priceless.

My favorite holiday polishes this year are from the likes of Dior, Deborah Lippmann, and Nars.  Each set has its own uniqueness; they are perfect for the nail polish lover and the woman who is not afraid of color.

$18 each, barneys new york

All That Glitters

In Holiday on December 4, 2011 at 12:17 AM

The joys of the holiday season continue.  While it’s fun to indulge in Manhattan’s holiday touches, it’s also nice to make some of your own at home.  That’s what I did on my Saturday night.  No late night holiday shopping, dinners with a special someone, soirées, brisk walks, or Via Quadronno caffeine boosts.  Instead, I continued to rest at home, (cold, please go away!) added some holiday galore throughout my apartment, and set up the just-arrived Christmas Tree to decorate later in the week.

The tree has filled my home with a fresh and warm delightfulness that cannot be created at any other time of year.  My other favorite holiday scents include gingerbread, candy cane, and vanilla.  I couldn’t fall asleep last night, so I decided to light a vanilla Fresh candle while reading some magazines.

Staying inside for the past day and a half has been unlike me, yet relaxing; however, I’m ready to go outside and “play” in my city that I love more than words can describe.

J.Crew Must Haves: For Her

In Holiday on December 3, 2011 at 11:30 AM

1. Satin jewelry roll, $23

2. Cashmere-lined leather gloves, $98

3. Cashmere hat, $58 (each)

4. Holiday socks 3-pack, $25

5. Resin colorblock necklace, $68

Fictional character, Carrie Bradshaw, might have been scared to commit to men, but she was never scared to commit to color in her wardrobe.  It’s amazing to go back and watch episodes from the late 90s, a time when fashion’s hottest pieces included puffy skirts, overalls, flared trousers, pastel colors, miniskirts, tank tops revealing the midriff (better known in this day and age as cropped shirts), capri pants, and more.

Regardless of what types of colors -be it pastels or neons- were popular then versus now, color is always “in”.  On the contrary, we find that it’s easier to stick to the basics when holiday shopping for someone whose color preference we simply do not know.

But the constant black, white, and grey can be boring.  To compromise, we don’t have to be completely knowledgable about a person to purchase a gift that doesn’t scream “playing it safe”; something a little more daring.  Instead, we can buy simpler items with a twist.

J.Crew is one of my favorite stores to holiday shop in because the options are endless.  Whether you’re the hipster, the preppy one, or the fashionista (the list goes on), the eclectic mix of merchandise -be it a notebook, a cashmere sweater to a statement cuff- makes holiday shopping enjoyable.

Above are 5 staple gift items for her from J.Crew that have a rather bold and colorful twist, yet aren’t too risky that you’ll be worried whether your miss likes it or not.

From Snow In Style Solutions To Breakfast At Tiffany’s

In Holiday on December 2, 2011 at 5:02 PM

It’s snowing in Style Solutions!  This is my second year with my favorite snow effect, and I’m absolutely obsessed with it as it brings fun holiday spirit.  I’ve been under the weather for the past couple of days– drinking tea with honey, reading a book, and watching TV episodes and movies from the 90s (total nostalgia) like Sex & The City and Serendipity have been the most “exciting” highlights of my rather ill week.  However, I suppose some down time every now and then doesn’t hurt.

While I’ve been resting, I’ve edited some of my holiday window display photos.  The city is so stunning at this time of year–it is the season when I appreciate my city most.  One of my favorite window displays this year is Tiffany’s.

For the past couple of years, Tiffany’s went safe, yet of course glamorous, with sparkly clear lights on all windows and doors.  Simplicity is nice, but the holidays is the time to go all out.  I am happy to say that this year Tiffany’s did, and the window displays are absolutely spectacular with a carousel theme.

It’s a colorful, bejeweled and beautiful fantasy that makes you feel as though you are in winter wonderland.  I love the glass peek-a-boo holes (as I call them) in the windows, especially the Tiffany’s replica with sparkly snow dust and a stunning diamond (on the lower right) with a pink diamond bow around it.

Although the merchandise in the store windows might be expensive, it doesn’t cost you one penny to look and indulge, so definitely check them out.

With all of this Tiffany’s talk, Breakfast At Tiffany’s is sounding like the perfect movie for me to rest to tonight.

Holiday Gifts On A Budget

In Holiday on December 2, 2011 at 7:34 AM

Who said you can’t buy great, fashionable gifts that don’t cost a lot of money?  Definitely not me!  Part of what I love about holiday shopping is the ability to shop high and low prices.  From Forever 21 to Louis Vuitton, there is always a solution.

This is my first post of gifts on a budget -5 gifts to be exact- all $20 and under.  Stores that have a nice selection of gifts at this price range include Forever 21, ASOS, J.Crew and Piperlime.com.

The Hilfigers Holiday Par-tay

In Holiday, Video on December 1, 2011 at 3:48 PM

You know it’s the holiday season when the Hilfigers are back!  Every year, brands and designers come out with holiday campaigns that truly blow me away.  However, nothing beats the Hilfigers; the eclectic and fictional American family who debuted in last year’s Fall and Holiday campaigns, which featured commercials all over TV, including New York City taxi cabs.  The campaign also made Vampire Weekend’s song Holiday even more of a hit.

In this Holiday 2011 sequel, the Hilfigers celebrate the season at home with a “part-tay”, which only they know how to do ever so fashionably, and humorously.  The commercial starts with us outside the family’s home with music of a fun party coming from indoors.

The door is opened by gorgeous star model, Noah Mills, and he welcomes us into the holiday part-tay with the rest of the family.  Don’t you remember his signature line from last year’s campaign? “Don’t you just love the holidays?”

Of course the family already opened their presents, and are all fashioning their gifts at once.  This means total holiday cheer and festivities.  The fun continues until the electricity goes out due to the Hilfiger dog; however, Mills does come back and ends the commercial with his new signature line: “From our house to yours”.

The Holiday Part-tay cast includes the entire Hilfiger family that we know and love: Noah Mills with Jacquelyn Jablonski, Emily Baker, Andre Douglas, Bernard Fouquet, Chloe Blackshire, Eric Fry Halperin, Gracie Carvalho, Julia Hafstrom, Lea Sorensen, Luis Borges, Marcel Castenmiller, Max Rogers, and Sam Way.

Just watch the clip, and you’ll get my excitement.

Holiday Gift For The Makeup Lover: Ice Parade

In Beauty, Holiday on December 1, 2011 at 9:28 AM

sultry, $38, MAC

It’s December 1st, which means today is my first gift suggestion of the holiday season!  There’s nothing like kicking off my list of favorite gifts than with MAC Cosmetics.  Every year, MAC never fails to impress with an amazing holiday collection of makeup.  From the packaging to the product itself, I think that MAC’s holiday collections are always their strongest of the year–I still use my MAC holiday eyeshadow from last year, and it still looks perfectly fresh and new.

While last year’s MAC collection, A Tartan Tale, was all about plaids, velvets, and fantasy, this year’s collection, Ice Parade, is taking on holiday glamour with silver, glittery packaging and metallic makeup.  Think North Pole gone fashion-forward.

The gift options from the Ice Parade collection are endless.  The collection entails clear and silver makeup bags (some contain a variety of face brushes), mini goodies, various kits, and eyeshadow pallets with an actual silver glitter snow globe on top–so fabulous.

I especially love the eye pallets in this collection.  They are perfect gifts for your BFF, mom, or sibling, since there is a wide variety of colors to choose from, it’s fun, and most importantly, what woman doesn’t love a makeup pick-me-up?

My favorite pallet is Sultry, $38, as I love the teal, deep purple, pink, and peach combo.  I bought it at Bloomingdales last weekend, and I can’t wait try it out this weekend for my holiday card photo shoot in front of The Met.

Sydney’s Casual Walk In The Park Look

In Holiday, On Sydney on November 30, 2011 at 2:58 PM

sydney in central park

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting is how I mark the official start to the holidays–and it’s tonight!  Beautiful lights, great music, and celebrity guests are some of what make the lighting my favorite television special of the season.  It’s going to be a busy night in New York City between the lighting, President Obama, and of course Justin Bieber.

Last year, around this time, I would be in a heavy jacket, a furry hat, gloves…the whole nine yards.  This year, I’ve had to dress quite differently, especially this past weekend.  I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and took a walk across Central Park from the east side to the west side.

I wanted to be super casual because it was Sunday and I had just been in a tight skirt and heels the evening before.  I wore my Lululemon leggings, Free City sweatshirt, Mizuno Wave Engima sneakers, Velvet Eyewear shades, and my Rebecca Minkoff shoulder bag.

It felt strange yet rather refreshing to not be wearing a jacket, but I do hope that some colder temperatures will make it in time for the holidays.

My family has already started putting out holiday decorative touches around our apartment, and there are many more to come in the weeks ahead.

Get ready Style Solutions readers, because starting tomorrow (for the next 25 days), I will be giving holiday gift suggestions.

Also get excited for some chic holiday interviews, more of my holiday looks, holiday window displays around the city, resort outfits, and one more very exciting surprise that I can’t mention just yet…

2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: The Sexiest Night of the Year

In Holiday on November 30, 2011 at 8:37 AM

There is no night sexier than the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  It gets bigger and better every year with new themes and creative ideas.  The stunning models, hot lingerie, and fabulous musical appearances (can it get any sexier than Adam Levine singing with his boo, Anne Vyalitsyna?) are what make the show such an incredible production.  And let’s not forget the other musical appearances: Nicki Minaj, Kanye West & Jay Z.  Plus, Miranda Kerr rocked the 2.5 million dollar bra–talk about a major moment.  I love watching the show every year right at home on CBS, and that’s exactly what I did last night with a warm chocolate-chip cherry oatmeal cookie and a glass of milk.

The show is one of the perfect starts to the holiday.  Below are my favorite looks.

Sydney’s First Holiday Look Of The Season

In Holiday, On Sydney on November 27, 2011 at 12:18 AM

sydney on broadway & spring

Stunning weather, busy streets, and lots of stores to shop in.  The holiday season is my favorite time of year, especially in New York City.  From the music playing everywhere, the fabulous store windows, the Salvation Army men jingling their bells for donations on the streets, to the Christmas tree in Rockefeller center waiting to be lit are some of my favorite parts about the holidays here in NYC.  Not to mention, the amazing holiday shows like The Nutcracker and The Rockettes, which I will see later on in the season.

I always like to be a bit more dressed and holiday-like at this time of year with richer fabrics and colors. The sales have been pretty good this weekend, although it seems like people did more of their Black Friday shopping online rather than in the stores themselves.  I made the majority of my purchases yesterday, and I felt that each one was smart: a second pair of my favorite Via Spiga boots (30% off the sale price) and some blouses from Zara, just to name a few.

It felt like I walked around all neighborhoods of the city yesterday–maybe not all, but quite a few–from morning til’ night.  To suit my Saturday plans, I wore an outfit that was comfortable enough to walk around in all day yet dressy enough to go out for dinner in.

Coat: Topshop, Top: Madison Marcus, Skirt: BCBG, Tights: Wolford, Leg warmers: H&M, Boots: Via Spiga, Handbag: Rebecca Minkoff, Hat: Topshop, Gloves: Urban Outfitters, Sunglasses: Velvet Eyewear, Bracelets: Hermes and House Of Harlow 1960.

I am absolutely obsessed with my forrest green cheetah fingerless gloves–plus, you can see my Happy Birthday painted fingernails.  The gloves are so on trend, and they added the perfect finishing touch to this outfit.  I also love my new “floppy” Topshop hat, which although is a bit dramatic and not suitable for all occasions, is still a fun piece for those dressier holiday looks.

topshop, $50

It’s crazy to think that reality falls back in its place tomorrow.  Time flies by, and although the work week is about to begin, there are some more holiday festivities to look forward to like the Christmas Tree Lighting in Rockefeller Center on Wednesday.

Sydney Outfit To Gaga’s Workshop

In Holiday, On Sydney on November 26, 2011 at 8:56 AM

I went to Gaga’s Workshop on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.  It was packed.  Luckily, Gaga’s Workshop takes up an entire floor, (5th floor mens, to be exact) so while it does get hot with the amounts of people, it’s still spacious.  The floor is designed to perfection with quirky and over the top sculpture designs holding merchandise, bright colors, and of course sparkles.

The merchandise is endless.  Bright and neon composition notebooks, clothes, jewelry, Gaga eyelashes, toys, cookies, candy, stuffed animals, and much more.  There is truly something for everyone–a fabulous selection of holiday gifts and stocking stuffers.  And, the prices range, so you could buy something from $10 to $100.

I knew I would be doing lots of walking that day; however, I seemed to have not dressed warm enough.  But, everything I wore was comfortable: a teal Aberleene & Skye blouse from Norahs in Southampton, Theory pants, Via Spiga boots, my Chanel handbag, my Aqua vest, and a stunning multicolored stone (in the blue family) vintage necklace on a silver chain that I bought at a vintage store in Bridgehampton last summer.

Today, I am off to Soho for some more sale shopping, breakfast at Balthazaar (craving the chocolate chip bread), a reunion with some old friends, and walking around the holiday shops in Union Square.  And of course, the weather is back to its unpredictable self, since it’s going to be almost 70 degrees today.  Oh boy!

BLACK FRIDAY: When Rebecca Black’s Song Comes In Handy

In Holiday on November 25, 2011 at 9:13 AM

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year; and while some can’t stand it, I completely enjoy it.  Each store has specific sales and specials going on, and while some stores are open all night long, some wait til’ the crack of dawn. This is the perfect day to get some of your holiday shopping out of the way, or to treat yourself to something you love at a price that better satisfies you.

Because there are so many stores to go to (the offers are endless), it’s important to plan your day wisely.  Keep a list of the different types of stores you want to go to.  For example, boutiques, department stores, chains, and even online stores, which is the easiest way to effectively shop since you won’t run into crowds and fashion-fighters.  However, there’s something quite funny about a Black Friday fashion fight; and believe me, I’ve witnessed more than one.

With store sales going up to as high as 50% off, this is not the day to sleep in.  Grab a cup of coffee, get on your walking shoes, and shop, shop, shop!  Below are my favorite stores to go to on Black Friday.

BOUTIQUES (NYC)

  • Cynthia Rowley (375 Bleecker Street)
  • Tracy Reese (641 Hudson Street)
  • Comptoir Des Cotonniers (137 Fifth Avenue)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

In Holiday on November 24, 2011 at 9:01 AM

Happy Thanksgiving Style Solutions readers!  It’s just our luck that the rain has gone away in the city, and the sun is shining just in time for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  The parade brings me back to my childhood memories when I would stand with hundreds of people outside of Macy’s watching the floats go down 7th avenue one by one.  The last time I went was when Grover crashed into a building, and we haven’t gone back since (this was years ago).  I am just as content watching the parade from my living room couch with a warm cup of hot coco in my cashmere pajama pants, Free City sweatshirt, and with family by my side.

In a little while, I’m going to get ready for my day, and wear an outfit that will work from day to night, since I don’t have time to change.  I’m thinking either a cute flowy dress or leggings with an oversized sequin top–anything that I can be comfortable in knowing that the amount of food will be endless.

Even in New York, just about everything is closed on Thanksgiving Day (understandably).  I made sure to get a manicure yesterday, and I wanted a polish that was fun and glittery.  Since I was at Barneys, I went to the beauty counter to pick up Deborah Lippmann’s most popular nail lacquer, Happy Birthday.  I’m obsessed with the rainbow colors and glitter, which is perfect for the holidays.

On that note, below are three fashionable and glittery accessories that will give your outfits some holiday fun!  Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Barneys Gaga Holiday Windows

In Holiday on November 23, 2011 at 11:13 PM

Barneys went all out this year with their holiday windows–it’s all about Gaga.  From a boudoir made entirely of hair to a Gaga machine, and even Gaga’s Crystal Cove, the windows are insanely creative (beyond typical).

Throughout the day, Gaga’s songs are played outside of Barneys, which attracts many New Yorkers and tourists who pass by the phenomenal department store.  It’s as though Gaga is taking over the world–at least Barneys and my blog, as though it seems, this week.

It felt great to see a fresh approach to Barneys’ holiday windows as the past couple of years didn’t seem to be as creative, fun, or anything of that nature.  This is a timely, fashionable, entertaining, and innovative holiday initiative.

I went to Gaga’s Workshop for the first time this afternoon, and I was completely blown away.  Everything was over-the-top, and completely Gaga–weird, funky, and super cool.  I cannot wait to show you the workshop’s fab look, the merchandise, and the purchases I made.  It felt as though there was something for everyone–whether you’re a foodie, fashionista, kid, adult, teen, or even a dog.

Thanksgiving day is less than an hour away, so get ready for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning (what would the holiday be without it?), and a Gaga Thanksgiving special on ABC tomorrow night.  And for you kids at heart, a new Charlie Brown.

Happy almost Thanksgiving, Style Solutions readers.  Sweet dreams!

PS- Start getting your outfit together if you haven’t already.  Something comfortable, soft, and dressy.  I suggest either a loose-fitting dress, or loose-fitting pants with a flowy sequin blouse.  You want to look chic, but you still want to be able to eat!

Thanksgiving Travel Essentials

In Holiday on November 23, 2011 at 12:01 AM

start packing, ladies!

I cannot believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving!  It feels like it was just yesterday when I was sitting on the beach in the Hamptons with my summer read and the warm sun shining on me.  Now, almost four months later, holiday spirit is in the air, gift shopping is starting, and kitchens are being cooked in to the max for Thanksgiving–I’m already craving Thanksgiving dinner, and like Blaire from Gossip Girl, a delicious piece of pumpkin pie!  I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade and then walk down Fifth Avenue to take pictures of the holiday windows.

Thanksgiving is the largest travel week of the year (over 42 million people in America will be traveling this weekend to celebrate with their loved ones).  Whether going home, visiting friends, or visiting someone else of importance, there are a few essentials for your getaway–some for yourself, and more importantly, some for others.

Sydney’s Outfit To Gaga’s Workshop

In Holiday, On Sydney on November 22, 2011 at 6:13 PM

While I waited in line to see Lady Gaga cut the ribbon to Gaga’s Workshop, there was a VIP party going on inside and I got to see many of the attendees walk in.  At such a fabulous party, it’s no surprise that the designer, celebrity, and stylist attendees were quite notable: Alexander Wang, Christian Siriano (who I previously mentioned), Prabal Gurung (!!!!), Brad Goreski, Neil Patrick Harris, and, Blake Lively (just to name a few).

Lively looked stunning in a royal blue deep v-neck pant suit with lace-covered shoulders

Since my attendance was ultra last minute, and I had to run out the door if I wanted to make it in time, I mad-dashed for my American Apparel black leggings, a tribal-patterned Topshop shirt, my vintage Chanel blazer, my black NAF NAF booties, my new cheetah print knee-high BCBG socks, (scrunching patterned knee-high socks with short boots is still so in) my Rebecca Minkoff handbag, my Topshop infinity scarf, and my new earrings that I purchased at Kimberly Boutique in Philly.

More on Gaga’s Workshop, Gaga’s holiday gifts, and Barneys holiday windows tomorrow.

In Holiday, Interview/Personal Appearance on November 22, 2011 at 12:01 AM

It’s Thanksgiving week, so the holidays have officially begun!  I am absolutely obsessed with this time of year–the beautiful decorations, food, festivity, music, fashion, and all.  It felt so great to turn on the radio this morning (yes, I still go back to old technology every now and then–actually, just at this time of year) to 106.7 lite FM and hear Christmas music: it puts me in a great mood, especially Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You.

All of the stores around the city have gone top-notch this year with their window displays (posts to follow this and next week).  Especially Barneys.  Barneys New York converted to Lady Gaga and her Fashion Director’s (Nicola Formichetti) interpretation of the iconic Santa’s Workshop for the holidays; a true phenomenon in the entertainment and fashion industries.

The talented duo collaborated to design the Barneys New York window displays, a line of gifts, and an entire floor in the department store for the initiative.  You can check out GagasWorkshop.com to learn all about the initiative, and to even create your own little monster Gaga Workshopper (guilty pleasure).

As I was sitting comfortably on my couch this evening with a warm cup of tea, my blackberry, and The New York Post, I came across a Tweet that Lady Gaga would be cutting a ribbon to the workshop outside of the store at 9:15 pm.  When I read this, it was 8:55 pm.  I mad dashed for an easy outfit, quickly put my hair up, grabbed my camera, and ran out the door.  This city never sleeps, and I absolutely love it.

Gaga wore a bride-like gown with big black sunglasses (of course).  Fans were cheering her on, her music was blasting, and it was worth every minute of being squished  and freezing to get a glimpse of her.  Prior to the cutting of the ribbon, there was a private party inside–I saw Project Runway winner and designer Christian Siriano walk in.

I have never seen Barneys like this in my entire life.  It was amazing to watch, and I’m excited that I got to take part in such a cool holiday event.  Gaga is truly a unique icon, and there is no one like her–and it doesn’t stop at the way she dresses.

Are you ready for your Gaga holiday moment?

Sydney’s Halloween

In Holiday on November 1, 2011 at 7:49 AM

In a cheetah [faux] fur coat from Nordstroms, a Patterson J. Kincaid orange and black cheetah blouse, black American Apparel leggings, House of Harlow 1960 embellished moccasin booties, and an oversized mask, I dressed up as Miss Piggy.  I always like to dress up as something humorous on Halloween day as I usually go for a more sexy/flirty look for parties leading up to the spooky and candy-filled holiday.  My “look” brought many laughs to those around me as I apparently embraced the character of Miss Piggy quite well.

This evening, I had a Halloween-themed dinner party at home.  Let me tell you, wearing a mask is no easy task.  It is hot, heavy, and almost unbreathable.  There was no way I could last in a heavy jacket all night, so I changed my outfit to a black cardigan with Miss Piggy’s signature pearls, and platform pumps.

Before some members of my family went off to trick-or-treat, we enjoyed a dinner that my mom made–she went all out; a total black and orange dinner.  Appetizers included peppers, olives, carrots, tortilla chips, and pumpernickel toast dipped into olive tapenade and roasted pepper humus, and the main course was orange beef. For drinks, my mom put out cream soda and root beer on a silver tray which added to the fun color scheme.

For dessert, my mom made homemade chocolate-dipped apricots, and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting and halloween decorations.

What did you do for Halloween?

Classic Pumpkins Go Fashion Fabulous

In Holiday on October 28, 2011 at 7:32 AM

It’s almost November and I still haven’t made it to Pumpkin Town in the Hamptons.  Almost every year, my family and I go out to our home for a long weekend, and enjoy autumn in a much less urban environment.  There’s nothing like sitting by the fireplace watching Something’s Gotta Give, and nibbling on sweet treats from the farmer’s market.   The air always smells fresher, pumpkins are everywhere, and the town of Southampton is transformed from bustling Hamptonite world to a quieter and more local populated environment.

The pumpkins in the city are completely different than the ones in the Hamptons in terms of color and size.  This is one instance where the city is limited, consisting of smaller and truly pricey pumpkins.  Until I have the chance to enjoy some autumn on the East End, and decorate a pumpkin to perfection, I can admire the pumpkin carvings of the refinery29 team, who went completely fashion-the Louis Vuitton logo, Missoni print, designer shoes, Balmain’s spring ’11 studded jacket, Anna Wintour (gasp!), and more.

Talk about pumpkin chic!

Your Pick: Rachel, Nicole, The Olsens, or Diane?

In Holiday on October 25, 2011 at 7:35 AM

Halloween costume ideas have yet to stop, and I’m absolutely loving it!  Whether dressing up as Lady Gaga, an Angry Bird, or a Disney character, the options are endless.   Not only do celebrities and fictional characters have signature looks and outfits, but designers do too as they tend to wear their own lines.

For example, Diane Von Furstenberg with her iconic wrap dress, Rachel Zoe with her sky-high shoes, Nicole Richie with her sexy maxi dresses, and The Olsen Twins with their round sunglasses and dramatic silhouettes.

Have you ever thought about dressing up as your favorite designer for Halloween?  If not, all you need is some of the designer’s clothes, or look-a-likes, a signature item that is always seen worn by the designer, and a mind full of creativity.  If you wanted to be Rachel Zoe, for example, all you need is some over sized shades, a baby stroller (typically Missoni or in a Missoni-looking print), and high heels.  You’ll be an RZ look-a-like before you know it!

Below, and the one above, are looks I have created for dressing up as Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, The Olsen twins, and Diane Von Furstenberg.

Playing dress-up never gets old, particularly on Halloween.  Who do you want to be?

With Halloween just a week away from today, finding the perfect costume seems to be on everyone’s mind.  Each year, I always hear people scrambling to come up with a fun and creative costume at the last minute.  Thanks to websites like Rent The Runway, these fashion emergencies can be solved.

RTRW came up with 5 Halloween looks by pairing their assortment of dresses with some fabulous accessories.  Who wouldn’t want to be dressed in Tracy Reese, Halston, Calvin, Robert Rodriguez, or Preen?  I know I would!  I also love a great makeover–M.A.C is the best for Halloween (make sure to book your appointment now as I know they book up very quickly)– as makeup is the finishing touch on a Halloween costume.

Here are my favorite looks RTRW came up with for us fashionistas.  I think they are all fabulous options: chic, creative, timely, sexy, and completely stylish.  Start renting your dresses and getting out your candy ladies, because the countdown to Halloween has officially begun.

Hot 90 degree days like today are the times when I crave the Hamptons the most.  Yesterday was absolutely beautiful on the East End, making leaving harder than ever.  I luckily got to spend some time outdoors, taking a walk on the beach, running some errands around town, and having lunch outside at Sant Ambroeus.

I’ve done a surprising amount of shopping this weekend; it always seems I do the most shopping when it’s not planned.  However, it will all come to good use as I am going to LA and San Francisco next week.  Next weekend will be all about California!

Above is a picture of me from Guest of a Guest at the Love Heals event at Luna Farm in which you can see my outfit more clearly.  I love wearing dresses all day and night during these warm sunny days as they make for an effortlessly chic summer outfit.

Today, I’m wearing my fire engine red J Brand jeans that just came back from the cleaners.  It is my first time fashioning them, and I’m really happy with the way I styled them, and the length that was taken off at the cleaners.  I paired my jeans with a tucked-in black v-neck t-shirt and a black Splendid shrug.  I accessorized with black Aldo half-inch heel shoes, a black Hermes belt, a new necklace that I bought this weekend at Therapy (a long gold chain with a medium-sized crystal hanging off of it), and my Louis Vuitton tote.

Sydney Goes On A Sweet Escape

In Holiday, On Location on May 1, 2011 at 9:29 PM

NYC is full of candy stores ranging from elegant European La Maison du Chocolat, in-every-neighborhood Godiva with cute holiday themes, to the hip and fun candy experience at Dylan’s Candy Bar. Do you ever have an undeniable sweet tooth?  I most certainly did today (although frankly almost everyday).  To fulfill my craving, I took a sweet escape downtown to new Swedish candy hotspot, Sockerbit, in the West Village.

Sockerbit, owned by Stefan Ernberg and his wife Florence Baras, is the chicest and sleekest store that I have seen with an abundance of gummy candy with both youthful and mature flavors and shapes.  The shop is full of over 139 kinds of chewy, unique, and delicious candies -including blueberry pie gummies, gummy poems, skelton scary gummies, chocolate covered banana gummies, and a wide variety of every shape and size of licorice- displayed in clear bins that slide upward to make scooping your candy easy.

The name of the store comes from its most popular candy  called sockerbitar: white marshmellows with rounded corners that look like sugar cubes.  Not only is this candy a favorite, but the store is architecturally designed in the shape of the cube.  The candy store somewhat reminds me of a jewelry store: tons of bins organized accessibly full of different items, each one colorful, fun, bright and sweet.

Mother’s Day is coming up (Sunday May 8, to be exact), and Sockerbit is the perfect place to get your mom a delicious gift.  Sockerbit sells adorable $25 buckets of candy wrapped with a bow, in addition to great cupcake wrappers filled with your choice of candy if your budget means a smaller gift (if there is such thing as a fashionable candy arrangement, this gift idea from Sockerbit definitely is).

Owner  Stefan is great at educating the novice about his candy and generous with sampling.  Admire the fashionably sleek aesthetic of the store, and find a cute gift for your mom, but don’t forget to get a bag for yourself before you leave.

Five Steps To Making A Fashionable Easter Bunny Cake

In Holiday, On Location on April 23, 2011 at 5:47 PM

Every year, when visiting Palm Beach Easter weekend, our club has many festivities.  This morning, families gathered in the ballroom to decorate Easter bunny cakes.  This is not a tiny cake (may I add).  There is a face, two ears, and a bow tie.  When sitting down at your assigned table, each seat has an apron and a towel so no one would get their glamorous outfits messed up, in addition to decorative toppings: two containers of icing, two containers of white coconut, one container of pink coconut, one container of green coconut, and one container full of string licorice, peppermints, candy corn, good and plenty, and jellybeans.  The apron was an adorable and smart idea: I did not want to ruin my new Parker red and white sleeveless dress, accessorized with nude pumps, crystal bangles, a rose-gold flower necklace, and red sunglasses.

To make my fashionable Easter bunny cake, I completed five steps.  First, I applied vanilla icing on all parts of the cake.  Second, I sprinkled white coconut all over, and then I put green coconut on top of the bow, and pink coconut on top of the ears.  Third, I gave my bunny a nose by placing three good and plenty together with pieces of string licorice attached.  Fourth, I gave the cake a mouth using candy corn, and eyes using peppermints.  Fifth (lastly), I  made a headband out of candy corn, giving my bunny a fashionable touch.  Bellow are pictures of the steps.  Enjoy!

Fashionable and Yummy Passover

In Holiday on April 19, 2011 at 10:24 PM

For the second night of Passover, seder was held at my apartment.  My mom loves cooking for all sorts of holidays, finding one special recipe to another, mastering each one.  I was off from school today, so I was able to watch and help (help meaning eat what she didn’t need for our family dinner) my mom cook.  It seemed as if my mom made an endless amount of food: matzo ball soup, charoset, gefilte fish, steamed asparagus, fruit compote, chicken, matzo stuffing, and a lot more.  “Attendees” included my brother, dad, poppy (grandpa), and three cousins.  My cousins brought two types of flowers, and I particularly liked the orchid plant in white and mint green.

After watching my mom cook for quite some time, I decided to go outside and run some errands: cleaners, manicure, pedicure, and bringing my grandpa to old-time barber shop Paul Mole on Lexington Ave.  I came home to a beautifully set up table organized by my mom: gold floral table cloth, one of my favorite sets of gold, orange, black, and white china, napkins in gold and pearl napkin-rings, and candles and yellow roses floating in little vases of water.  The table was most certainly “fashionable”.

Since I knew I would be staying home and would be eating a ton of delicious food, I wanted to wear something that I would be comfortable in and wasn’t dressy.  I wore my turquoise and navy Anthropologie blouse that I seem to talk about and wear more than I actually do, black leggings, black pumps (nope, no platform), a gold crystal-ball hanging off a chain necklace, a black cuff, and a watch.  In photo: I’m standing behind the table where the dessert was kept until ready for being served, and let me tell you, the dessert was amazing.  My mom made a chocolate soufflé-tasting cake with cherry preserves in the middle, meringue on top, and mini chocolate covered matzo on the outside.  Other deserts included chocolate covered marshmallows, a variety of macaroons, an apricot tart, and my mom’s homemade chocolate chip “cookies” that are extremely good.

I had lots of fun tonight spending time with my family, indulging in delicious food, and following the overall traditions of Passover.  There are 6 more days left of Passover: leftovers await until I head to Palm Beach this weekend.

White Christmas

In Accessories, Holiday on December 26, 2010 at 3:35 PM

The snow has noticeably arrived in NYC.  I love a “White Christmas”: the city looks beautiful, hot chocolate and marshmallows are craved, and you don’t feel like getting out of bed.  Unfortunately, I’m not one to stay home all day, so I was up bright and early and went to Saks Fifth Avenue‘s day after Christmas sale: it was a madhouse and women went crazy. Instead of fully enjoying this first snow of the season, and most likely last of the year, I’m getting ready to go to Miami tomorrow night which isn’t so easy to get ready for when flights have been cancelled all day.

As I prepare to head out to beautiful and hopefully sunny Miami, I had some errands to run so I put on my Hunter Boots.  Hunter boots are perfect for snowy weather, but they’re not the warmest if you compare them to Uggs.  Here’s the difference: Hunter Boots are waterproof while Uggs are not yet are so comfortable.  To make your Hunter Boot warm and comfortable for your feet, purchasing a Hunter Welly is the best thing to do.

Hunter just recently came out with a Zebra Welly Sock that is perfect for keeping you warm with it’s fleece lining, and still making you look fashionable with it’s cool pattern.  The sock has bold zebra stripes and will go perfectly with whatever color Hunter Boot you have since the pattern is in black and white.  I own a pair, and they really do make a difference.  The Welly Socks come in multiple colors and patterns, but this one is my favorite.

The socks are $30 on Nordstrom.com, and are a definite fashion necessity during times like this.  Put on your hat, gloves, coat, and Hunter Boots with your new Welly Socks because it’s cold and snowy outside.

All I Want For Christmas…

In Holiday on December 25, 2010 at 10:38 AM

Merry Christmas Style Solutions readers!  Today is the day when you open your presents (hopefully some of which were on your wish list) and when you get to follow all of your holiday traditions.  Everyone celebrates Christmas in their own special ways: from simply going to different places, eating different food, and spending time with different people.

Here’s what I’m doing today.  First, my mom is making an early brunch for my family: Great Grandma’s traditional crepes with warm apple cinnamon sauce, stewed figs, sparkling apple-pomegranete juice, fruit salad with all of the holiday fruits like clementines, kumquats, and oranges, cranberry panettone which I can never get enough of, and homemade hot chocolate with marshmallows for when we open presents.  Later we are going to take a walk in Central Park because we have a huge dinner around 4:30 pm.  For a super early dinner, my family and I are going to Joel Robuchon’s restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel which has my favorite holiday food other than my mom’s.  Lastly, my mom and I are going to see Donny and Marie Osmand’s Christmas Show on Broadway which I am so excited to see.

No matter where your holiday takes you today, you can still add some Christmas spirit to your outfits.  When opening presents in the morning with your childish yet adorable pajamas on, put on your silly santa hat to bring out laughters and festivities.  If you go out for a little walk around the block, there’s no need to get fancy: just put on a pair of jeans or leggings with a cute red or green v-neck (being comfy during Christmas Day is crucial).  If you go out or stay home for a Christmas dinner, this would be the time to glam it up a little: put on a fabulous holiday-looking cuff like Liz Palacios “Piedras” Red Swarovski Crystal Cuff ($87.50).

So put on your Christmas music, get comfy in your pj’s, eat lots of delicious food, and then glam it up for your evening of Christmas fun.  Some of you might have had short wish lists, while others long, and I would love to hear from you what your favorite Christmas gift was this year.  I hope everyone has a fashionably fabulous Christmas, and keep an eye out for a post tomorrow.  xo

Pacific Beach Bag

In Accessories, Holiday on December 24, 2010 at 6:56 AM

Tonight is Christmas Eve, so you should be done with your holiday shopping.  However, if  perhaps you’re not done, today is your last chance: stores close early, so make sure to be up bright and early with your shopping shoes on.  Sometimes we get caught up with the holidays: it’s not just about presents (although they are nice), but it’s about being with family and friends and following your own traditions.  My tradition during Christmas is to watch my two favorite holiday movies: The Family Stone and National Lampoon Christmas Vacation.  The holiday season is almost over, so finish up your shopping, and enjoy the fun festivities of Christmas.

If your gift recipient is going away to somewhere warm like me after Christmas, a beach bag is a great present.  Trina Turk -a designer who is known for bright colors and funky patterns- just came out with a “PS Block Pacific Beach Bag.”  It is mod, chic, and perfect for holding your light vacation reads and SPF.  The bag has a loose-site look, -which is why I think this is a cool bag- but it’s not so clear that you can identify what you’re specifically carrying.

The ‘Pacific Beach Bag’ is finished with a gold plaque and an attached coin purse.  The bag comes in three colors: pink, smoke, and white.  The white is my favorite because it will go with everything and it will make a settle statement: you don’t need to overdue it at the beach.  The bag is $98 and is available on TrinaTurk.com

Wood Embellished Tee

In Clothing, Holiday on December 23, 2010 at 8:11 AM

Christmas is just two days away, so you only have two days left to finish your Christmas shopping.  It’s crazy to think that Christmas is right around the corner: I’ll miss the store decorations, Christmas music, traditional baked goods that my mom only makes at this time of year, and of course getting dressed up (although I’ll still dress up when the holidays end).

You still have enough time to get your gift recipient a special present.  A piece of clothing that is easy and simple to get is a tee shirt because the sizes are general, it’s easy to pack when going on vacation, and who wouldn’t want something comfortable and fashionable?  In the near future, girls will stop Winter shopping and start Spring shopping because new collections are either out or coming out.  If you’re going to buy a tee shirt for this holiday season, I would most definitely purchase a cruise tee.

Calypso St Barth -a brand that defines cruise wear- just came out with an adorable “Tie Dye Tee” (I seem to have a mini obsession with tie dye lately) that is easy fitting and is embellished with wood bead trim.  The tee has a very boho-chic look, but there is always a way to make a tee glamorous.  I see the tee with either blue or white jeans, tan sandals, wooden bangles, and a straw bag for the beach.  Give your face a natural yet glamorous look by wearing a little eyeshadow of the same tone of the tee and a glossy nude lip.

Once you get home from your travels, you can warmer this tee up with a chunky sweater in either the color of the wooden beads or navy blue, put on a pair of blue jeans or leggings, some knee-high boots, a hobo bag, and you’re set.  The tee is $75 on CalypsoStBarth.com.  Check it out.

Rent The Runway FASHION ALERT

In Holiday, On Location on December 22, 2010 at 9:32 PM

Rent The Runway is taking a trip from the cyber world to the big apple!  The Soho pop up is only available to Gilt City members, so if you’re not a member, sign up on GiltCity.com now.  Rent The Runway is a website where you can rent your head-to-toe dream look for any occasion you might need for a specific amount of time.  Get ready girls, because this is the time that you’ll be able to wear the Herve Leger dress that you’ve been “gaga” over for months.

The holiday season is certainly the best time for Rent The Runway to make their “fashion statement” in NYC because New Years Eve is just around the corner, and finding the perfect dress for an evening of partying and fun is what fashion-lovers are worrying about all night long.  It’s a great idea to rent a dress for New Years Eve because it is rare for one to wear a New Year’s Eve dress after that night.  New years Eve is a once a year event, so you don’t want to spend a lot of money for one night.

If you’re going to be in New York City on December 30th and 31st, make your way to Rent The Runway’s NYC pop up closet.  The location will be open for only two days, so prepare wisely.  In order to go into the Rent The Runway pop up, click here to purchase your $5 admission ticket: this is your ticket into the Soho boutique.  You’ll be able to try on and rent dresses and accessories.  Not only will there be fashion stylists to help perfect your look, but there will be complementary hair and makeup artists.  The tickets are available for two times and two dates.  December 30: 5pm-8pm and December 31: 11am-3pm.  The sale to buy tickets ends on December 28, so if you buy your tickets now, Gilt City will give you a $10 credit for your next purchase.

This miniature miracle awaits, but remember, if you’re not a Gilt City member, you must sign up in order to purchase the admission ticket to attend this great pop up.  The location of the pop up is 163 Varick Street, 4th floor, New York, NY 10013.

5 Shades of Tie Dye

In Beauty, Holiday on December 22, 2010 at 11:10 AM

Having the perfect holiday lip can make -never break- your outfit.  The one piece of makeup that I can’t leave my apartment without is my lipgloss.  If I don’t wear lipgloss, my face actually feels naked.  I have a tendency to only stick to one type of lipgloss, but the holiday season makes me want to branch out and try new brands and color shades.  Daring, right?

Sephora has great holiday deals during this time of year where items worth $100 are available for $25.  If your gift recipient loves makeup, getting her a limited edition lip gloss collection will be a fun and cute gift.  Lorac -a makeup company- just came out with a limited edition holiday ‘Tie Dye For Lipgloss Collection” that is perfect for the girl who wants a colorful, shiny, and long lasting lip.  The set comes with 5 gorgeous shades of full size glosses: Flaming Mix (red), Shocking Twist (fuchsia), Social Mixer (pale pink), Berry Blender (purple), and In The Mix (nude).  This collection is so to die for.

Not only do I love the look of the lip-glosses, but I love what’s in them too.  These glosses are formulated with acai berry and pomegranate for a boost of protecting antioxidants – love acai berry and pomegranate.  Whenever I buy sets of lipgloss, I feel that there is always that one color that just doesn’t work.  Not with this collection: each color looks great depending on my outfit.

The set is available for just $25 on Sephora.com.  If you break it down, you’re getting each lipgloss for $5 each – what a deal!  Get this set of lipgloss for your makeup-loving gift recipient, and you will definitely make her holiday.

Simple Elegance Hanging Off Your Ear

In Accessories, Holiday on December 21, 2010 at 9:45 AM

It’s time to spice up your holiday wardrobe with a simple yet elegant earring.  The excitement of opening a little box can usually be more exciting than opening a big box because the thought of jewelry most definitely comes to mind.  Getting a pair of earrings that works with my darker and lighter pieces in my closet is what I most certainly look for when purchasing an earring.

Gift shoppers: because you’re buying earrings at a time when your gift recipient may be wearing them in places that require dark and heavy clothing and others bright and light, you should get an earring that works for both.  A perfect earring to get is the ‘Danielle Turquoise Earring‘ by Kendra Scott.  Scott is a fabulous jewelry designer who comes out with adorable pieces for each season and has great prices.  Not only am I obsessed with the ‘Danielle’ earrings, but Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg is too.

The ‘Danielle’ earrings are perfect for a snowy-winter holiday and for a sun-filled holiday.  The earrings will look great with a black and/or white outfit.  For a “snowy-winter holiday” you could wear the earrings with a black cocktail dress or black pants with a white button down where the earrings are the only pop of color in both outfits.  For a “sun-filled holiday” you could wear an all white outfit (white jeans, blouse, dress, etc) and tie in the turquoise earrings with only one other accessory in the same color: shoes, sunglasses, or a handbag.

Overall, the earrings are simple yet elegant and will bring that pop of color to whatever outfit you wear with its bright and fun turquoise color.  The earrings are $60 and are available on WinkNYC.com

Attention Grabbing Flats

In Holiday, Shoes on December 20, 2010 at 10:45 AM

“Walking around the Christmas tree” can take a bit of energy if you’re walking around a tree as big as the one in lets say Rockefeller Center.  The most walking during the winter season takes place during the holidays, so it’s important to have that stylish yet comfortable shoe that you can use at home for the holidays and then take it with you when you jet set to a warm place.

Flats are not my favorite type of shoes, but if they have a great look, you might be able to see me in them.  Holiday shoppers, it’s time to get your gift recipient a pair of flats: a great looking pair of flats.  What makes flats great?  Color, design, and shape.  Your gift recipient can always run out to a store and buy herself a pair of inexpensive black flats, so lets stay away from the basics and get something a little more daring this year.

Vince Camuto just came out with a topaz ‘Stine Flat‘ that will grab attention from all ways.  I love this shoe because it has the ability to make outfits more fun with the color and detailing.  If you’re at home for the holidays, you could wear these flats with a simple pair of blue jeans and a black sweater, and if you’re vacationing somewhere warm, you could wear white jeans and a white blouse and then use the flats to bring that pop of color.  The jewel detail at the front of the shoe is what makes it an attention grabber: it is bold and chic and will give a simple outfit some extra pizzaz.

The flats are $99 and will look great no matter where you spend your holiday season.  Check them out on ShopTheShoeBox.com

The Perfect Tote

In Accessories, Holiday on December 19, 2010 at 9:44 AM

My favorite gift to receive for the holidays is a handbag.  I always say that you can never have too many, and I think it’s reasonable to get one new purse a year -no matter what the price is- because the bag will look new and fresh.  When going away for cruise I really try to stay away from black,(which is extremely difficult because black is the uniform for New Yorkers) so I like to have bright and colorful handbags in my closet which will end up satisfying me more than my every-day black bag.

(In photo: Carlos Falchi) Holiday shoppers, here’s what to get: a Carlos Falchi Two-Toned Microfiber Tote.  Carlos Falchi is one of my favorite handbag designers because his bags are good priced and are always spot on with the trends and colors of the season- he demonstrates these qualities with this tote.  The tote is great for travel, long days on the beach, and just walking around with its light-weight material, two-toned color contrast (fuchsia with blue handles) and little cosmetic case that comes with it.

What I also love about this tote is the lining inside.  I hate it when the outside of a bag is gorgeous but when you open it the lining is ugly: not with this tote.  This tote is lined with a beautiful floral print that gives it a fun and fresh look.  When you purchase this tote, don’t go overboard with the wrapping.  I would put it in a shiny plain white box, and then brighten it up with a combination of blue, pink, and purple ribbon.

The tote is on sale for $154 and will definitely brighten up your gift recipient’s day.  Check it out on SaksFifthAvenue.com

Beach Sexy

In Holiday, Swim on December 18, 2010 at 9:04 AM

If your gift recipient is going somewhere warm for a holiday vacation, getting her a bathing suit will be a much needed present.  Every cruise season, I try on my bathing suits from the previous summer, and some of them just don’t look as fresh and new as I would hope.  I think it’s reasonable to get one new bathing suit for cruise that you know you’ll constantly use and fits your body to perfection.  It might seem like a challenge, but holiday gift-shoppers can achieve anything.

When I purchase a bathing suit, I look for the right brand, fit, color, and pattern.  Here’s a tip: never buy a solid white bathing suit because white always shows what you don’t want others to see.  I like to buy bathing suits from companies that make bras and underwear because I know if they’ll fit my body or not.  A great company that I suggest buying bathing suits from and are very reasonably priced is Victoria’s Secret.

Victoria’s Secret just came out with three bathing suits that I love and have great fit, color, and pattern.  The first bathing suit (the first centered picture above) is a twist-bandeau top with double string bottom bikini ($24 for top and $16 for bottom).  I love the pattern and color: black with stripes of color going through.  It also has a removable halter strap.  The second bathing suit (which is the second picture) is a ‘Sexy Sliding Triangle Top’ with a double string bottom ($18 for top and $16 for bottom).  This bathing suit comes in various colors, but my favorite is the electric pink: it will look great whether you have a tan or not.  The last bathing suit (which is the third picture) is by Kenneth Cole sold at Victoria’s Secret.  It is a ‘Plunge Monokini‘ ($98) and is draped with total drama.  I love the cobalt animal pattern in blue, black, and white: if you want more coverage yet to still look sexy, this is the way to go.

All of these bathing suit options are great, but it’s just about finding the one that your gift recipient will like best.  Check them out on VictoriasSecret.com

School is out and break is here. I’m starting off my holiday vacation by going to Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular -The Rockettes- this afternoon which is my favorite holiday show of all time.  When attending various shows and holiday parties, I like to have sections in my closet full of dressy and casual-chic looks that are glamourous, easy, and fun.  I also like to have a cruise-wear section in my closet which is a combination of pieces from the summer and new purchases so I won’t be stressed out when packing to go away.  You’ll get a taste of my cruise looks when I go to South Beach and Palm Beach in two weeks.

Designers come out with special looks for the holiday and cruise season each year, so I made a video slide show (which is definitely the best one yet) of my 2010 favorite pieces for this special and best time of year.

Don’t you just love holidays?

Fun and Short With Michael Kors

In Clothing, Holiday on December 16, 2010 at 5:51 PM

Dressing up for an evening of fun can be one of the most stressful times to get ready.  You want to look your best, so wearing a fabulous outfit is what’s mostly on your mind.  When I get dressed for any occasion, I want to be stress-free.  To achieve this, I only buy pieces that I know I’ll wear more than once and will be able to mix and match with other items in my closet.

Here’s a perfect holiday gift that your gift recipient will definitely wear more than once: a MICHAEL Michael Kors Sequin Tulle Skirt.  This black sequin skirt is fun and short and will look great for the winter and cruise.  It will become one of your go-to skirts.  The skirt is great because you have the ability to dress it up and down.  If you want to dress it up, wear a simple black blouse, black pumps (with sheer black tights if it’s cold), a bright colored clutch, and diamond-looking stud earrings with a cocktail ring.  If you want to dress it down, – which can be a cruise look – put on a white tank top, sandals (heels or flats), silver bangles, and aviators.

The skirt is $89.50 and will also look great for New Years Eve if dresses aren’t your thing: you can wear it about anywhere.  Get going shoppers, because this skirt is a holiday must.  Check it out on MichaelKors.com

The Gingerbread Girl

In Beauty, Holiday on December 15, 2010 at 3:40 PM

One of my favorite parts about the holidays is the holiday flavors: candy cane, cinnamon sugar, gingerbread, and more.  When it’s so cold outside -just like today- it’s important to keep your body exfoliated.  When I was younger, I wasn’t “into” wearing creams and using lots of bubble baths, but now -especially during this time of year which is cold and stressful- it actually relaxes me.

Girls love to relax, so bath and body products are always a good gift to give for the holidays.  When we use products, we want our bodies to feel smooth but smell good at the same time.  Philosophy is a company that does a great job at making a great product yet still having a delicious scent.  Here’s my gift suggestion of the day: the Philosophy Gingerbread Girl Set.

The Gingerbread Girl Set is a two-piece holiday set featuring a gingerbread foaming bubble bath/shower gel and a body lotion.  The bubble bath/shower gel will cleanse, hydrate, and soften skin, and the body lotion will also hydrate you with its natural oils.  I love gingerbread during this time of year.  It’s sweet, but not too sweet, which is why I not only love the scent of these products, but the taste of gingerbread cookies too. It’s head-to-toe holiday relaxation.

The products come in an adorable pink gingerbread house-looking box that gives the extra touch of holiday spirit.  The set is $20, a great price, and is available on Sephora.com

Sydney Meets Patricia Field

In Fashion Designer, Holiday, Interview/Personal Appearance, On Location on December 14, 2010 at 6:26 PM

It might have been absolutely freezing outside, but that didn’t stop me from attending the launch party of Patricia Field‘s – the stylist for Sex & The City 2 – new limited edition handbag line for MCM this afternoon.  The launch party took place at the MCM Boutique at The Shops At The Plaza Hotel.  I’m not a huge fan of the shopping center at the Plaza for two reasons.  One: I don’t think it’s necessary to have a mini mall when NYC is the biggest “mall” in the country.  Two: it takes the classic charm away from this New York City landmark.  However, meeting Patricia was worth it.

If you’re a Sex & The City 2 fashion-fan like me, you know how excited I was to meet this fashion legend.  Patricia’s line for MCM gave the company’s handbags the edgy twist that it most certainly needed: whether it be the color, design, or studs on some of the handles.

I talked to Patricia for fifteen minutes -who looked very cool with her adorable Pucci winter coat- and she asked what my opinion was of the bags: if I thought they would appeal to my readers, if I liked the look, etc.  I feel that the line has a cool, artsy, and chic look.  It’s for the girl that wants an everyday bag that is stylish, wearable, and big enough – yet not too big – for her daily necessities.  I also think that it’s classic (although fun and colorful) and is not too out there and looks simple yet elegant.

Beyonce was just seen wearing my favorite bag of the collection which is called the ‘Reversible Shopper Tote‘ – love the color, design: everything.  Although the collection is expensive – handbags start at $550 – it is a luxury brand and the bags are less expensive than (for example) Goyard totes which have the similar aesthetic.

This line is limited edition, so it’s a great gift to purchase for the holidays if you want to splurge on something that is more unique.  Meeting Patricia was a pleasure: she’s fashion forward, a fashion icon, and an inspiration to fashion-lovers like me.  Check out her collection at the MCM Boutique at the Shops At The Plaza or on PatriciaField.com

Isis Bangle

In Accessories, Holiday on December 14, 2010 at 4:12 PM

It’s time to shimmer up your wrist for the holidays with a very chic and glamorous bangle from J.Crew.  I am a big fan of J.Crew because although the store is a chain, it doesn’t  sell items that you can directly recognize its brand.   The items sold at J.Crew are always on trend, chic, colorful, and are usually very well priced.  I highly recommend J.Crew for both men and women.  One of my favorite things that J.Crew sells is jewelry – bracelets in particular.

J.Crew is a perfect store to do some holiday shopping in.  Not to mention, a great store to buy a bracelet for a holiday present in.  J.Crew came out with an ‘Isis Bangle‘ that is so glamorous and fun that it will command all eyes on you.  The brass bangle is decked out with colorful crystals – gossamer peach – with a plated brass chain that gives the bracelet some edge – love the color.

Not only will this bangle look great during a snowy winter, but when you’re getting some sun in a warm place too.  The bangle will look its best when the outfit is a little toned down since the crystals are pretty overpowering.  I would recommend staying with nude, peach, white, and black.

Here’s a plus: the bangle is on sale. Originally sold for $78, this bangle is now available for $55.  Check this bangle out on JCrew.com, and you’ll be sure to get the perfect gift.

Share The Warmth

In Holiday, Shoes on December 13, 2010 at 3:42 PM

If there is one part of my body that is always cold during the Winter, it’s my feet.  I hate wearing socks because I feel like I’m going to slide on my marble floor, so I would usually wear flip-flops.  However, it’s a bit too cold for them now.  It’s time to put your Havaianas away and bring out your comfy slippers.

A great gift for the holidays is a pair of slippers.  Once opening the present by the tree, I guarantee your gift-reciever will put them on in no time.  When I think of slippers I want something extremely comfortable and warm, but I still want them to look fashionable.  For all of you Ugg lovers, these slippers will be perfect for you: it’ll be like wearing Uggs yet around the house.

Ugg just came out with a a pair of ‘Cozy Knit‘ slippers that combines the style of your favorite Ralph Lauren-looking sweater with the comfy and warmness of a slipper.  One of the reasons why everyone loves Uggs is because of the fur inside.  Don’t worry because these slippers are lined with it as well.  The slipper comes in three colors: black, chocolate, and cream.  The cream is my favorite color because it looks like it came right out of a snowy winter day.

If you need to run out to lets say the supermarket and don’t want to change your shoes, you don’t have to because this slipper has a rubber outsole (although I do like to have separate indoor and outdoor shoes).  The ‘Cozy Knit‘ slipper is (as said on the Ugg website) the season’s must have indoor/outdoor slipper.  The slipper is $100 and is available on Ugg.com

Dot Wallets From Kate Spade

In Accessories, Holiday on December 12, 2010 at 11:56 AM
It’s a rainy sunday in NYC – not so fun.  Today is one of those days that I have a ton of errands to run, yet I have no interest in getting soaked.  If it’s raining where you are and you’re not in the mood to go outside to shop, today is the perfect opportunity to shop on the Bloomingdales website because they have a 20%-40% off sale on selections of handbags, jewelry and accessories, women and men clothing, and children clothing.
A gift that I recommend today – that is not on sale but is well priced – is a wallet from Kate Spade.  Wallets are one of the most necessary things we carry in our bags.  One thing that I constantly see is lots of people carrying money in the back of their blackberry and iPhone cases, but that’s not a good idea because there is more of a chance of losing it.
To prevent losing your money, credit cards, etc, keep them in a fashionable wallet.  Kate Spade just came out with a New York Larabee Dot Darla Wallet that is colorful and adorable.  The wallet comes in four colors: black, fire engine red, purple, and pink.  The purple is my favorite color of the bunch, yet of course black is the safest color to chose from.  Although black is the safest, sometimes it’s good to take a risk, so don’t just consider the black one.  Not only is the color and design of this wallet great, but there is also a polka dot lining inside that makes it more fun – love polka dots.

Check out these Kate Spade wallets on Bloomingdales.com (which are $65) to  get the perfect gift.

Pomegranate Fashion- Fusion

In Clothing, Holiday on December 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM

After a stressful week in the city, my family thought it would be a great idea to go away for a night to get some rest and relaxation.  I’ll give you a hint as to where I am: it involves lots of chocolate…Hershey World.  A silly vacation spot, but it’s rather close to NYC and chocolate is my weakness – so yummy.  There are hershey kisses everywhere I go! Plus, the chocolate spa treatments and quaint boutiques are quite satisfying.  Although chocolate can be a great gift, unfortunately it doesn’t involve fashion.  Here’s what I recommend as a holiday gift today.

Pomegranate is by far the most popular color of the year and is the “happy medium” between red and pink.  I’m not a big fan of pink, and red is a little too strong with my complexion, so pomegranate is a good solution (i’m actually wearing a pomegranate sweater now). Designers have constantly been seen incorporating pomegranate into their collections, so by getting a girl a piece of clothing in this color, you’ll definitely be following the trends.

Monrow – a brand sold on Piperlime.com – just came out with an adorable Gold Studs pomegranate blouse that is perfect for cruise and the holiday season.  The blouse has a hint of a tribal look yet the color brings glamour, the studs bring edge, and the deep v-neck gives it a sexy look.

For the holiday season, pair the blouse up with some tight black leggings, high-heeled booties, a boyfriend blazer, and a black fur vest.  You should definitely wear a gold purse with this look to bring out the studs – it can be a hobo or a clutch.  For cruise, you can find great Michael by Michael Kors gold linen shorts that are a little over $100 and will give you a bright chic look.  If you’re not comfortable wearing shorts, wear some skinny white jeans and gold sandals (a heal is your preference).  For a purse, you could wear a gold straw-esq bag for day and a clutch for night.  For both seasons, keep the jewelry simple with some gold stud earrings and cocktail ring.

The blouse is $144 and is available on Piperlime.com

Big In Size, But Not In Price

In Accessories, Holiday on December 10, 2010 at 7:36 AM

I love to wear glitzy and funky jewelry during the holidays.  NYC – especially at this time of year – isn’t like anywhere else: the city never sleeps. All of the stores -including big names like Louis Vuitton, Tiffanys, and Gucci -participate in the holiday festivities by making their stores bright and colorful.  I too like to look bright and colorful during this time of year, and I do that by wearing a statement earring.
Buy a girl a pair of earrings for the holidays, and she will be happy.  It might be easy to just wear diamond-looking studs every day, – I have to admit, I hate changing my earrings – but switching it up with a statement hanging earring will looking great and bring some variety to your look.
When I say a hanging earring, I don’t mean a typical one colored straight piece.  I mean a colorful crystal circular shaped show-stopper.  Amrita Singh just came out with a fabulous pair of earrings called ‘Adelaide Earrings‘ which are fun, glamorous, and chic.  The earrings definitely make a statement, so don’t wear any other jewelry when when wearing them: you want the earrings to be the center of attention.
Dress these earrings up with a cute cocktail dress or dress them down with a pair of blue jeans and a simple sweater.  The earrings were originally $120, but are now on sale for $49 – a terrific deal.  Check out these multicolored earrings on banglebangle.com.  These earrings might be big in size, but they definitely aren’t in price.

Louboutin’s All The Way

In Holiday, Shoes on December 9, 2010 at 3:50 PM

Like the new snow effect?  I think it gives a winter-wonderland touch.  Speaking of winter, I can’t get one of my favorite Christmas Songs (Jingle Bells) out of my head! Well, a certain version, one of which Louboutin replaces Jingle Bells in the lyrics. As I was walking home from school today, I spotted a pair of Louboutin’s (the store is conveniently next door to my school) and am now obsessed with a pair that are perfect for all seasons, including the mini season: cruise.  For this Christmas, the perfect gift would be Louboutin’s all the way..

The most popular shoe brand is Christian Louboutin.  We love his shoes because of the sexy design-aesthetic, wide color pallet, and signature red painted sole and heel that symbolizes the brand.  I do currently own a pair, and I have to say they are the most comfortable pumps compared to all of the less expensive ones I have.  Not only do buyers and lusters obsess over this brand, but celebrities do too.  Did you know that Christian Louboutin is creating a shoe called the ‘Blake’ in honor of Gossip Girl star Blake Lively?  So cool.

It’s actually better to have one fabulous pair of pumps that you’ll use all of the time -which are comfortable and a basic- than having multiple cheap pairs that fall apart after a couple wears.  Put a pair of Louboutin’s on your wish list ladies, because these shoes are truly the best.  The pair that I am currently obsessed with is the Prorata 90mm beige platform pump.  The pump defines a sexy yet classy shoe and will become your go-to.  I love beige shoes – which are extremely popular right now – because they can become your new black pumps.  Sticking with the same black shoe can be boring, so why not change it up with a neutral color?  You can wear these pumps with anything from a flirty dress, a mini skirt, to jeans and a boyfriend blazer, plus more.

The shoes are definitely expensive, actually crazy expensive ($735), but they truly are great.  Even if the shoes are out of your budget, you can still find other great shoes that follow this aesthetic and will still give you a fashionable look: there is always a way to find another solution when it comes to fashion.  Check these platform pumps out on ChristianLouboutin.com, and as the website says, “you can stand in them all day and still keep them on to vacuum when you get home!

Chanel Holiday: An Irresistible Nail Trio

In Beauty, Holiday on December 8, 2010 at 5:04 PM

Girls love to get pampered – I know I do – especially during the holidays.  Something that really relaxes me at this time of year is getting a manicure/pedicure.  After tons of holiday shopping, my feet hurt so badly that it just feels great to sit down.  Sitting in a comfy chair in a zen (if you will) environment where nothing is on your mind is the ultimate comfort.

My friend Liz says that my nails are always polished.  To be honest, it annoys me when my nails are gross and chipped because it’s tempting to either bite or pick them.  Because I “can’t handle a chip”, I like to have a nail polsih set of my own so I can touch them up myself.

Here’s a great holiday present: the Holiday Collection 2010 Chanel de Vernis Gift Set.  This set is perfect for the nail obsessor and Chanel lover (like me).  The set includes three colors inspired by the runway: Rouge Noir (black-red), Coromandel (fire-hot red), and Gold-Lame (gold-member gold).  My favorite color is Gold-Lame because it will brighten up my finger and toe nails during cruise season.  Cruise and summer are the seasons where you want people to acknowledge your nails.

Plus, the polishes come in a cute Chanel carrying case which makes the perfect home for them.  You could also use the case for other pieces of makeup.  The set is $66 and will be a very handy gift for a woman.  Check it out on NeimanMarcus.com

Upload Your Info In Style

In Holiday on December 7, 2010 at 4:31 PM

We live in a modern day world full of technology that is truly unbelievable.  We have the Kindle to read books, DVD players to watch movies, iPhones and Blackberrys to talk to people, the internet- a world in itself-  which we use on our high-tech computers, and plenty more.  My Macbook Pro and Blackberry have become the two pieces of technology that I simply cannot live with out.  One of the most important things that I do on my computer is write articles.  When I need to transfer information from one computer to another, the most handy thing that you could find in my purse is a USB Stick.

All of you students and workers know the importance of a USB stick.  At some point in our lives, we depend on it.  If we’re going to be using this piece of technology at multiple occasions, why not upload our info in a stylish way?  Here’s the perfect holiday gift for the computer user and fashion lover: a Jimmy Crystal New York Swarovski 2 GB USB stick.

This fashion USB stick covered in glamours Swarovski crystals (so cute) comes in three colors: black, clear, and fuchsia.  If you don’t know the person you are giving this gift to’s favorite color,  I would purchase the black one because you simply can’t go wrong.  However, my favorite of the bunch is the clear stick because it matches perfectly with my Macbook Pro.  The fuchsia USB is perfect for the girly girl who just can’t get enough of pink: take Paris Hilton.

To add a finishing touch, the memory stick is accented with a logo charm in silver.  Perfect for the tech user, fashion lover, and of course crystal lover, this is a perfect gift to purchase.  The memory stick is $48 and is available on Bloomingdales.com

The Perfect Seasoner

In Accessories, Holiday on December 6, 2010 at 3:49 PM

Today is the first day of flurries in NYC of the winter season- so excited!  There’s nothing like cuddling up in bed with a blanket, hot cocoa, and watching Sex & The City 2: that’s my dream, not reality.  My afternoon entails lots and lots of work, yet the only thing that can take my mind away from stressing out is window shopping online.  An even bigger dream that I have right now is sitting in Miami by the pool, sipping on blueberry-mint lemonade, and reading a chick- flick on my new Kindle.  Although not here yet, that time is soon to come, and something that I feel that I need while window shopping online is a fun bag for cruise.

Here’s the way to get to a woman’s heart: if you’re not going to get a woman jewelry, get a purse.  Unfortunately, the brands we lust are so expensive, but you can still find bags that are chic and trendy.  I always love to get gifts on the holidays that I can use for cruise when I go away because it’s a new and fresh option.

Moyana, a brand sold on Cusp.com and is constantly seen in magazines like Elle and Marie Claire, just came out with a ‘Navajo Beaded Clutch‘ that is perfect for the cruise season and the winter.  For the winter, use it as a dress-up tool when you wear your LBD (little back dress) and pumps: it will give an edgy, boho-chic, and fun look.  For cruise, pick up the yellow by wearing a cute yellow sundress or white jeans with a yellow blouse or t-shirt.  When you have a statement purse like this clutch, it’s important to pick up the hidden colors with the other parts of your outfit.

Don’t let the beads and colors intimidate you from wearing accessories, because a pair of gold bangles and stacked up small gold rings will look great.  The purse is $155 and will definitely make a difference during your vacation get-aways and even when you return back to soon-to-be-snowy home (depending on where you live, of course).  Check this Moyana clutch out on Cusp.com

Piperlime Giftcard

In Holiday, Shoes on December 5, 2010 at 4:32 PM

Piperlime.com is a fabulous website for purchasing anything from clothing, to accessories, to shoes, and more.  I personally think that the shoe section of the site is the best of all because of its wide variety of brands, designs, and color options.  One might think that picking a pair of shoes out online is a difficult task, but it’s even more difficult to pick out a pair of shoes online for someone else.

Here’s a solution: a Piperlime giftcard.  I used to think that gift cards were impersonal and were only given to people you don’t know well, but I don’t feel that way anymore.  Gift cards are a way to let people pick out what they want, which is ultimately the goal for the gift-shopper and the gift-reciever.

Holiday gifts can be pricey, but with this Piperlime giftcard, you can determine how much you want to spend.  Here are the amounts: $10, $25, $50, $75, $100, $150, $200, $250, and $500.  As you can see, there is a wide range of how much you can spend, so this is a perfect option for anyone as close as a girlfriend/boyfriend or parent, and as far as a distant cousin or friend at work.

Don’t forget, Piperlime is a website owned by Gap with sub companies Banana Republic, Athleta, and Old Navy, so you can even use your giftcard at those additional stores. Check out Piperlime.com to purchase a giftcard and find out more info about it.

Sydney Goes To Dash

In Celebrities, Clothing, Holiday, On Location on December 5, 2010 at 9:41 AM

The Upper East Side was a madhouse yesterday.  My mom and I were looking forward to a shopping day in the department stores because it was cold outside, but Bloomingdales (who had an iceskating rink made out of plastic which people could “skate” on), Barneys, and Bergdorfs were jammed packed.  We decided that it was time to leave our comfort zone and make our way down to Soho on Spring Street: I put on my fur vest, my cheetah Betsy Johnson hat, and we were off.

First, my mom and I went for a cheese platter and Spanish donuts dipped in chocolate sauce at a tapas bar where I spotted socialite and star of CW11’s High Society Tinsley Mortimer and boyfriend Brian Mazza, who were seated a table away from us.  Then we went into some cool vintage stores where I tried on some Chanel jewelry and fur coats.  From there we went to Topshop,-I bought the perfect dress for Miami and Palm Beach: I might even wear it on New Years- then Bloomingdales (the downtown one of course), and finally Dash.

If you’re going to a place that involves the Kardashian name, you need to be prepared for a line.  Outside the Dash store was a line of about 30 people, yet there were only about 10 people in the store.  It was freezing out, so my mom and I kept running into this cute gallery to look at art until the one hour line progressed.  When finally being let into the store, I was a bit disappointed: it looked like an Intermix wanna-be.  Dash carried all the same brands as everyone else like Alice and Olivia and Torn, so why wait in line for the same old stuff if I don’t have to at Intermix? Well, because it’s a Kardashian store.  I think that the girls should start a mini upscale collection of their own and sell it at the store so it brings some diversity.

There was some of their own brand in the store like their new book Kardashian Konfidential, water bottles, Kim’s perfume, etc.  Most of the shoppers didn’t want to spend money on merchandise, so the only smart thing the store did was have a bag that you could purchase for $15 which had a Dash water bottle and candle in it.  It is said that the store makes $50,000-$100,000 a day, but I don’t believe that because the only thing that was being purchased in the store were those $15 bags.

Overall, my “downtown day” was a success: lunch/snack was delicious, the shopping was good, and going into to Dash was worth it.

Comfy and Fashionable With Ella Moss

In Clothing, Holiday on December 4, 2010 at 9:19 AM

The temperatures are dropping as the holidays are getting closer, so it’s tempting to put on a comfy sweatshirt to feel warm.  Sweatshirts aren’t particularly the most attractive piece of clothing, – with the exception of Free City sweatshirts (as an example) – so every now and then designers come out with sweater-like sweatshirts to give a more high end look.

Ella Moss just came out with a great embellished sweatshirt that looks like a sweater but will still let you be warm and cozy.  The perfect gifts can be the ones that you spend more time thinking about, and a piece of clothing gives that impression.  I love the color of the sweatshirt -oatmeal- because it’s warm toned and will look great with jeans, leggings, you name it.  The embellishing on the sweatshirt gives it some edge, yet the neckline takes it down with its slouchy and effortlessly chic look.

One wouldn’t necessarily -at least I wouldn’t – wear a sweatshirt out at night right?  This sweater/sweatshirt is different because it does have a little dressier look and you can glam it up with some great accessories and pumps.  I wouldn’t wear it to a fancy dinner to say New York hotspot Cipriani, but I would wear it to a more casual dinner on the weekend.

The sweater is $132, also comes in Sage (white) if oatmeal is not the color of your preference, and is available on Bloomingdales.com.  Get comfy and warm in this sweatshirt and snuggle up by a fireplace: fashionably.

3.1 Phillip Lim Resort 2010

In Clothing, Holiday on December 3, 2010 at 10:40 PM

It’s the holiday season which means resort time! It’s time to bring out your summer wardrobe and get ready to wear it in warm places like I’ll be doing in Palm Beach, Florida.  It never hurts to add some new cruise pieces to your summer collection, and you can sometimes do so at reasonable prices, with the occasional splurge.  Phillip Lim – whose prices aren’t reasonable – just came out with his resort 2010 collection that is drop-dead-gorgeous.  Below are my favorite looks from the collection: take this post as a guide.

What’s your favorite look?  Do you like the patterns and colors?  What do you think are the trends for the 2010 resort season?  I want to hear from you.

Good Things Come In Small Packages

In Accessories, Holiday on December 3, 2010 at 4:13 PM

OMG. It’s day 3 of my holiday gift guide, which means more present suggestions.  I love getting pieces of jewelry for the holidays because I wouldn’t necessarily buy jewelry for myself.  It doesn’t have to be a $750 David Yurman ring, but it can be a costume one by Rachel Zoe.  The best presents don’t always need to come in a big box (with the exception of a designer handbag, of course).  Like the old saying, good things come in small packages.

My style icon Rachel Zoe just came out with a ‘Floral Pave Lace Ring‘ that is an adorable holiday present.  I love rings that make a statement and have enough “personality” that I wouldn’t necessarily need to wear other pieces.  This ‘Floral Pave Lace Ring’ does just that.  Coming in three colors – black, golden brown, and green – this ring is a great addition to your jewelry box and will give your outfits some extra glam.  Don’t worry about needing to wear other jewels, because this ring is big enough that it will be your statement piece.

If you want a gold ring I would say go for the green because it’s fun, different, and chic.  If you want a silver ring, go for the black one -not only because it is the only silver one- because it will give you a more sophisticated and classy look: it will also become one of your basics.

Bold and gorgeous, this is a perfect gift and a want.  Rachel Zoe not only knows how to demonstrate the trends, but design them.  The ring is $88.50 and is available on QVC.com

Dior Holiday Collection

In Beauty, Holiday on December 2, 2010 at 3:49 PM

It’s the Holiday season, so you want to look your best.  This is the time of year to get glitzy and glamorous and dress to perfection.  Part of making the perfect outfit is to pair it with fabulous makeup.  Luckily, makeup companies like MAC, Trish McEvoy, and Christian Dior come out with limited-edition Holiday collections to bring out our beauty each season.

Christian Dior is one of my favorite makeup companies.  I have a bunch of limited edition makeup collectibles, and they are so fun to look at. I live in the Dior Show mascara – which gives me the ultimate long eyelashes- and Natural Glow foundation that gives my face a natural glow – how ironic. (just to name a few).  Out of all of the 2010 Holiday makeup collections, I think the Christian Dior one is the best.

Dior just came out with a limited addition makeup pallet that defines the ultimate collection: efficient application and beautiful colors.  You want to look bright and glamorous, and you’ll find that with the 6 eyeshadows that come in the pallet which (as said on Sephora.com) range from a pearlescent white highlighter to a smoky gray: the colors definitely follow the Fall and Winter trends.  Also in this adorable pallet is a mini Dior Show mascara (love), a mini pink Ultra Gloss (you’ll get that glossy lip), a medium pressed powder, a pink powder blush, and an inside mirror which gives you the ability to put on your makeup and look fabulous at any given time and place.

Did I mention the chic packaging?  This exquisite set of makeup comes in a sleek red patent cannage case which looks like the Princess Diana signature Dior purse pattern.  The set is sold for $75 which is a great deal (look how much you’re getting!) and is perfect for any woman.  Check it out on Sephora.com

For A Music Junkie

In Accessories, Holiday on December 1, 2010 at 7:45 PM

Happy Hanukkah! It’s December 1st which means that today is the first day of my 25-day guide of stylish and affordable (with the occasional splurge) wants and gifts for others – so excited.  I’m so happy that the holiday season is here, with the beautiful christmas tree lit in Rockefeller center, the stores decorated to perfection, and holiday music played around the city like All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey- my favorite song of all time which I love to play on the piano.

The first item that I think is a great option to give as a gift or want because they are so chic – especially for a music junkie – are Marc by Marc Jacobs headphones.  It’s time to put on that music and listen to it in style.  We might love our little Apple bud headphones because of its small size, but they aren’t very comfortable and don’t give you great sound.  If you’re traveling or relaxing at home, larger sized headphones (like these ones) is the way to go.

The headphones are pink with a Marc by Marc Jacobs logo on the side, giving them a retro-chic look.  These headphones bring me back to the Madonna days, and all I want to do is put on some vibrant music.  The headphones are $68, and will be the perfect gift for any girl who likes to listen to music.  Check these Marc by Marc Jacobs headphones out at Bloomingdales.

I just got back to New York from Montreal, and I definitely miss it.  Pickled chips, crunchie bars, the French language, old architecture, the food, and the shopping – it was a great get away.  Now back in the States, the Holiday season is officially here.  I just put on the radio and boy was it a wake up call to hear 12 Days of Christmas. Starting December 1st, get ready for your 25-day Holiday Wish-List where each day I will give you the ultimate ideas for wants, and gifts for others.

Before we get to Dec 1st, let’s talk about what just happened in the beauty industry.  Mac just came out with their holiday collection called “A Tartan Tale“.  The line is great, and the packaging is adorable.  Colorful and plaid compacts, you’ll definitely want to get a piece of this collection.

“A Tartan Tale” is comprised of lip kits, lipsticks, eyeshadows, blush, nail kits, and more, all in Holiday colors and will look perfect with your warm-toned outfits.  It’s fun to experiment with different cosmetics even if you do like to stick to your usuals: you can always combine the old with the new.

Prices range from $22-$50.  The collection is available on the Mac website and stores who carry Mac.

Black Friday

Today is the biggest sale day of the year in the U.S and officially determines the beginning of Christmas shopping season (so excited).  Why is today called Black Friday?  It is said that it indicates the period during which retailers are turning a profit, or “in the black.”

Stores have opened at the crack of dawn for customers eager to buy anything to everything as early as 4 a.m.  Today’s the day to get up, put on your shopping shoes, and run for those department stores.  Stores that I would run to are Saks Fifth Avenue (sales up to 70%), Nordstrom (sales up to 50% off), Bergdorf Goodman (sales up to 40% off), Lord&Taylor (sales up to 15% off), Bloomingdales (sales up to 40% off), and of course Macy’s whose sales vary depending on the item and is known to be a complete zoo on this day – maybe it’s better to do that shopping online.

The key to having a successful shopping day on Black Friday is to not go too crazy.  You don’t want to over spend, so I would plan a budget of how much you’re going to spend on what and where.  There are 25 days of the Christmas shopping season, so don’t go wild on one day because there are plenty more.

Now’s the time to not only shop for your friends and family, but for yourself too.  You’ll be able to find misc. pieces of clothing, shoes, accessories, and more that you wouldn’t buy regular priced but are now marked down to one more reasonable.

Happy shopping!
